Overview:
15
Strengths:Notes:
16
NuanceHis route running nuance and football IQ are clearly off the charts. He is a crafty route runner with great suddenness and a diverse route tree.
17
Run After CatchHe follows blockers well and consistently makes the first man miss when getting the ball in space.
18
ZoneHe navigates to open space underneath as well as anyone in this draft class.
19
20
Weaknesses:Notes:
21
Physical DominanceHe is by no means imposing, and could afford to gain some muscle mass over the next few years.
22
Vertical Sideline RoutesHis deep route running nuance is great, but he lacks the top end speed and catch radius to be a consistent deep threat along the boundary.
23
Defeating Press CoverageHis second break is magnificent, but he often does not beat his man cleanly off the line.

GameTakeawaysNotes:
27
Florida (10/28/2023)Great block. Clean split step release. Crafty release packages. False steps and drop steps seen throughout tape. Explosive out of false step. Does not pull away deep. Great positioning leading up to second break. Finds oven space very well. Route nuance and suddenness are beyond impressive. Decent after the catch. Occasionally does not sell his false move convincingly with his upper body, particularly in press coverage. Elite short area footwork. Great deep route running, but has average top end speed. Route running nuance is clearly his best quality. Great hands and suddenness. Will get open and catch the ball underneath from the slot, which is a winning skill in the NFL. Mid-Late 2nd round.
28
Ole Miss (11/11/2023)Wide stance, but propels off of front foot. Wins deep with a speed cut and head fake to rotate the hips of his man. Has the nuance to win deep. Excellent into zone. Elusive in open space with the ball in his hands. Follows blockers well, and can still make plays on his own in the open field. Implements every type of break footwork imaginable with precision. Showcasing good track speed. Taken out often.Mid 2nd.

AttributesGrade / 100Notes
31
SeparationShort92Understands how to separate off the line, but does not win as often into press coverage. He finds space underneath incredibly well against zone coverage.
32
Medium95Intermediate route running is dominant.
33
Deep89Not as dominant as some of the bigger and faster receivers in this class, but runs deep with more nuance than just about any of them.
34
ReleaseStance75Wide stance occasionally leads to suboptimal linear footwork.
35
Acceleration87Very good acceleration in any direction.
36
Footwork96His footwork is natural and refined, often allowing him to separate on release. There is room to grow against press, but he clearly works on his release footwork and nuance.
37
HandsCatch reliability87Usually reliable, but not outstanding hands.
38
Catch radius81Fine catch radius for his height, but nothing noteworthy.
39
Contested catch26He does not get positioning when blanketed and has not shown the ability to go up and get it against man coverage. He is decent into traffic, but contested catching with his frame and skill set should never be a part of his game.
40
RACAthleticism88Sneaky athletic.
41
Agility85Usually can make the first guy miss in the open field.
42
Contact balance73Adequate contact balance in the open field. It is good for his stature, and has room to improve as he gains some mass in the NFL.
43
BlockingTechnique70Good blocking technique, but a bit slender.
44
Willingness90Perfectly willing, but does not always go out of his way.
45
CoveragePress84His size can prevent him from working through contact.
46
Off96Understands zone coverage as well as anybody.

Final Scouting Report
49
Ladd McConkey is one of the most refined route runners in all of college football. His release, route breaks, subtle adjustments, and separation at all three levels on top of a complete and complex route tree make him a weapon anywhere on the field. In the open field, he knows how to make the first guy miss and follows his blockers incredibly well. There are few receivers better than he is into zone coverage, and he should be a consistent chain mover at the next level. From his game knowledge to his hands to his ability to separate, McConkey is one of the most reliable receivers in class.

He is not perfect by any means and may struggle working on the outside in the NFL. His small frame and lesser play strength may prevent him from cleanly getting off the line against press coverage. He will rarely win in contested catch situations, and lacks the ability to utilize his frame and box out defenders. His game relies solely on separation, and he may be better suited to play slot in the NFL. McConkey likely will never be the number one option on a team, but should be able to handle getting riddled with targets from the slot and being asked to run a vast array of routes. He may not have the same supposed upside as many of the projected first round receivers, but could have a long and productive career if he ends up in the right situation.

Playstyle
52
Best RoutePost Route. His speed cuts are excellent, and he has a variety of route break footwork that allows him to separate deep. He is a refined route runner at all levels of the field, but his ability to consistently find ways to create separation downfield without relying solely on speed is beyond impressive.
53
Worst RouteFade. He would probably run this route just fine, but should not be asked to do so with his body type.
54
Pro ComparisonChris Hogan. Hogan had better play strength, but McConkey has better deep separation and nuance.
