A group of feminist scholars at Northeastern University is seeking help building a list of U.S. newspapers led by women at any point from the colonial period through the end of the 20th century. Please use this sheet to suggest relevant publications or fill in information missing from partial records. We are especially interested in woman-led papers that served communities of color and/or indigenous peoples. Our focus is on general-interest newspapers, but we understand how difficult that concept can be to define, so please err on the side of inclusion. For the purposes of this list, we consider a woman who serves as publisher, owner and/or the top editor as the paper's leader. We'll make the list public once it's finished. Questions? Email Prof. Meg Heckman at m dot heckman at northeastern dot edu. NOTE: This list is a draft that still needs to be fact checked. Cite at your own risk.
