| TO SAVE & EDIT YOUR OWN:
| File --> Make A Copy (Save to your Google drive)
| OR File --> Download (in whatever format works for you)
| You will be denied if you try to edit this one. I recieved a ton of emails last year asking to edit the main spreadsheet because people would not save their own.
| ||
| I made this spreadsheet premade with A LOT of tracking options, but you don't have to keep them all and can add your own.
| I'm going to give a little bit of basic instructions here for editing this spreadsheet. For more advanced things and for any other help, check out the Google Forums.
| PLEASE DO NOT EMAIL ME/MESSAGE ME ASKING ME FOR HELP. ONLY CONTACT ME IF THERE IS A MISTAKE WITHIN THE SPREADSHEET.
| A little research can go a long way and there are tons of resources and videos on how to do things within Google Sheets.
| You can move this instruction sheet to the end of the bottom tabs (click, hold, drag to end) or you can delete it (hit the arrow on the tab and select delete)
| ||
| NOTE: right now the Total Books Read count on the Yearly/Monthly stats INCLUDES DNF'd books.
| If you want to change this to NOT include DNF books, copy the formula in the cell below and paste it in the Total Books Read count cell on the Yearly Stats page.
| 2 | |
| To change the Monthly Stats, you'll need to play close attention to the formulas. It will be easiest to copy the cell below and replace "January" in the formula with the month you are pasting it in for.

| ||
| DELETING UNWANTED COLUMNS AND CHARTS
| Choose the column you don't want (these are the top headings marked with letters). Make sure you are selecting the Letter Cell. Click the arrow on this cell and select delete.
| Select the chart you don't want and hit delete on your keyboard.
| ||
| ADDING COLUMNS | |
| You can write into an unused Column on the end of the sheet and then drag (select the Letter cell) to where you would like it in the sheet. OR you can right click on an existing column (on the Letter) and choose to "Insert 1 right" or left.
| Inserting and deleting rows is similiar, if for whatever reason you need to use that, just use the NUMBER cells on the left side instead of the LETTER cells.
| Don't worry about moving columns and messing up the graphs! The info shouldn't change and is locked to the column info, not column location.
| ||
| ADDING SOMETHING TO A DROP DOWN MENU / ADDING A DROP DOWN MENU
| Right click on the column with the drop-down menu you want to change/add, ensuring the whole column has been highlighted. Right click on the Letter Cell and Select "Data Validation" (the last choice). You will have to change the cell range. It will have the Sheet Name first followed by letter of the column and then a 1 (ex: B1), you will have to change the 1 to 2 (B:1 -> B:2) to keep the heading. Then select to have a LIST OF ITEMS in the Criteria before you can add the items for the menu. List the items with a comma in between (it recognizes spaces as part of the choice). I usually put them in alphabetical order so they are easier to find when using the menu.
| TIP: right click on a single cell that already has a drop down menu and bring up the Data Validation screen. Copy the list that is there before going to the whole column edit. When adding the list, you can paste + add new items to keep from retyping them all.
| ||
| EXAMPLE: | |
| ||
| ||
| ADDING YOUR NEW SOMETHING TO A STATS PAGE
| So you added something to a drop down menu and now it's not showing on your stats. I won't lie, this might be confusing and seem hard to do if you are unfamiliar with showing data between sheets. I'll try my best to walk you through it:
| 1. Once you've added a row to the tracking area, the easiest way is to copy a formula from the same stat area. If it is a genre (or race/identity/etc) you are changing/adding, you can just change the genre to that (ex: "Magical Realism" would change to "Romance" in the formula)
| ||
| 2. If the chart is not showing the new stat, you will need to double click the chart and change the range. You can delete existing ranges and drag and select the range.If this makes the chart look funny or not working, select Chart Type and choose the "Suggested" pie chart at the top of the chart list. Most the time, if the numbers are across multiple rows & columns (ex. genres), you will have to add each row as a data range.
| ||
| ||
| ADDING A CHECKBOX | |
| Similiar to adding a drop down, select the column you want to add a checkbox to. Right click to select "Data Validation" Under Criteria, select "Check Box." That's it!
| To add this to a stat, I would recommend looking at some of videos or tutorials, as this gets into longer formulas or try copying one that exists in the stats page (such as Books Owned vs Read)
| CUSTOMIZING CHART COLORS
| Double click the chart you'd like to change the colors of. Select Customize at the top of the sidebar that appears. Select Slices and you can choose what colors for each slice.
| ||
| ||
| ||
| ||
| DELETING A SPREAD YOU DON'T WANT
| Select the tab the spread is in. Click the arrow beside the title of the sheet, select Delete. You may have to go into Stats pages and delete any charts that were connected to that page(s).
| ||
| ADDING NOTES (helpful for reviews and more info on genre/subject/etc)
| You can select a cell (probably title) and click Insert, and select Note. You can also right click and add note. When you hover over the cell, the note appears. (Hover over this cell!)
| It will also add a little tab in the corner to let you know there is a note.
| ||
| ||
| ||
| NOTE ON TRACKING CHOICES
| I've excluding tracking sexual orientation because it is not something most authors are upfront about (no one has to be!). Whereas race and identity are more known and identified, sexual orientation is harder to observe. I also think orientation can be fluid and changing and there are many ways someone can identify, therefore it felt hard to track and could be inaccurate from start to end of year. You are more than welcome to add your own way of tracking this, but there is an OwnVoices checkbox and I personally write if they are open about it in the notes.
| I've tried to include as many races as I could but I did use a more "government" list, so it might be excluding some races and I apologize prefusely for that!
| I've tried to include identity, since most authors who use specific pronouns seem to be more open about this so as to not be mis-gendered. I've included which ones I know, but I'm sorry if any are excluded or repeatitive.
| Unfortunetly, I could not find a good way to show "most read author." It was beyond my understanding and seemed more complex than was worth it. I figure most people would know which author they've read the most anyway.
| ||
| Pages read includes DNFd books because I think that is most accurate. If you do not want that tracked, put "0" for pages read or do not include DNF'd books in the spread.
| I chose not to show a graph for subgenres because there are SO MANY. It also left it so it is easier for you to add or remove your own without having to worry about changing any graphs.
