UKpyka is a team of multi-disciplinary artists who create objects, structures and spaces that enable people to explore worlds built with sound. We have developed a sound remix tool for iOS and access-first musical instruments, co-created digital arts tools with Shakespeare's Globe and as Digital Artists in Residence with Tate Britain, and have delivered creative engagements with over 50,000 learners in over 250 schools across the UK.

Practicing Scalesspatial audio composition & essay
2025published in the International Journal of Creative Media Research in 2025Practicing Scales is a practice-based research project that explores the ecological framework of ‘subscendence’ through spatial audio composition, utilising the disassembly and reassembly of musical ‘objects’ as a method for investigation. Ty Gwyn Special School2023with pykaa Research & Development programme that revisited early prototpyes of accessible musical instruments. co-creation workshops were carried out in Ty Gwyn Special School with facilitation support from Tin Shed Theatre. new prototypes were created and presented at a public interactive exhibition event at The Place, Newport.

Cwm Glas Infants2018with pykaprinted book featuring bespoke font. learners created visual artworks of the letters of the alphabet, which they iterated on and digitised in a font design process. they also created character profiles and visual artworks for an animal-based story, which was written using the class font and self-published into physical books for the learners at the school.

Ysgol Bro Dinefyr2017with pykacreation of a Magic Mirror. learners programmed a Raspeberry Pi to cycle through questions they had formed that prompted young people to think about identity. these were displayed on a monitor covered by a two-way mirror and was hung in the school corridor. learners explored concepts of identity through digital art and co-created their own Magic Mirror to be placed around the school.
