SUMMER MENTORSHIP (Accounting)

8/14/201510 hoursI went through a stack of invoices in which companies
paid a fee to the library, Each invoice had an ID number
and I entered that number into system that gave me its
check number to record. I then entered this check number
into an excel spreadsheet. After this, I had to alphabetize the
invoices by company name and put them into a binder. There
was also another stack of invoices that had to be filed in the
cabinet and I did that as well. I also observed as my mentor
would get visits from representatives of a company and pay
the fee that they owe. She would record the information and
write a receipt. Near the end of the day, we went to the bank
to deposit all of the money into the library's bank account.

12/21/20155 hours 30 minsThere were no classes in session going on today, however, there was a Christmas party for all the children to attend! I was first in charge of organizing and cleaning all of the physical therapy/gym equipment. Then, I organized toys in which certain children with a specific disorder was meant to have. From there, I went to the classrooms and set up the tables and chairs for the children to eat. I picked up their toys and observed the therapists interacting with the children and their parents.5 hours 30 mins

Then I went into the classroom and set up a sensory station (playdoh, magnetic sand, etc.). The kids started coming in and we went into song time. From there, the children were given a good hour and a half to play, and during this time, I was able to interact with them. Then we did a painting activity (cleaned brushes/trays) and they ate their food (washed dishes, threw trash away). Put the chairs up around the class, organize toys, and disinfect toys/tables.8 hours 30 mins

3/27/20162 hours 30 minsToday was my first day in my Anatomy and Physiology online course. I completed Unit 1: Welcome to Anatomy and Physiology. This unit was basically about the course and how I will be completing it. I also completed Module 2 in Unit 2: Introduction to Anatomy and Physiology. In this module, I learned about the big ideas of physiology and also the vital functions of human life. This section briefly introduced me to a few of the systems in the body. I then went on to learning about body planes and terms you may use when talking about a human body. 2 hours 30 mins
20
4/3/20164 hoursToday, I learned all about the systems we have in our bodies, specifically our organ systems. I learned everything about the digestive system, respiratory system, cardiovascular system, lymphatic system and immunity, urinary system, and the integumentary system. I took quizzes and watched videos that further helped me understand these concepts in detail. 6 hours 30 mins
21
4/10/20166 hoursToday, I finished up Unit 2 of this class. I learned about the skeletal, muscular, nervous, and endocrine systems. All of these systems are especially important in physical therapy because it focuses so much on bone and muscle movement of the body. I then started Unit 3, levels of organization, in which I learned what our body is broken down into and what we are made of in detail. 12 hours 30 mins
22
4/15/20164 hoursToday, I finished up Unit 3, levels of organization. I then started Unit 4, Homeostasis. In this section, I learned about how we receive and transmit certain stimuli in different environments. I also learned how homeostasis works to maintain all of the systems together in balance. This may range from the homeostasis of ions and molecules to the temperature of our bodies. Next, I moved on to Unit 5, the skeletal system. Here, I learned about all the functions of our bones and its counterparts which may include what the bone is made of and how they change as we age or get injured.16 hours 30 mins
23
4/16/20165 hoursStarting Unit 6, the muscular system. In this unit, I learned about the different muscles and their functions. I also learned how the muscular system works with the skeletal system and this is especially important to know in pediatric physical therapy. Muscles are made up of a lot of different components and all of those components work together to contract when needed. 21 hours 30 mins
24
4/17/20165 hoursToday, I pushed to complete Units 7, 8, and 9. These units consisted of the integumentary system, endocrine system, and digestive system. I learned what exactly the integumentary system is composed of. Also, how all the other systems work to maintain the inegumentary system because it is such an important aspect of our bodies. In this system, burns are also mentioned which may be commonly treated in physical therapy. The endocrine system is composed of hormones, hormone receptors, and endocrine glands. Each one of these consists of even more components that work together to maintain the homeostasis of this system. This system can be important in pediatric physical therapy because patients are still growing during the process and PTs need to be prepared for what may come with their growth. The last system I learned was the digestive system. Many patients in pediatric PT commonly also have speech and eating problems, thus this system can be very essential for PTs to know. I learned about this system's functions and different components. 26 hours 30 mins
25
4/18/20162 hour 30 minsI completed Units 10 and 11. This was the cardiovascular system and the respiratory system, both very important systems in the body. I learned the structures and functions of both systems. Both rely heavily on oxygen for its functions. Without these two systems, our other systems would not be able to function at all. These systems are also especially important in pediatric physical therapy because a lot of the patients may have a heart issue or even a breathing issue, so it is really important for a PT to be able to know these systems and be prepared for any problems they might encounter. 29 hours
26
4/19/20162 hoursToday, I completed units 12 and 13! These units were the urinary system and the lymphatic system. These units do not have that much of a greater importance when compared to other systems, however they do play part in pediatric physical therapy. I was able to learn all the different functions and components of these systems. 31 hours
27
4/20/20162 hoursToday, I learned the last two units of my class! This was Unit 14, the nervous system, and Unit 15, a review of everything! I learned the different components of the nervous system and its relation to physical therapy. In the last unit, I was given a broad overview of all the systems I learned and this helped me to refresh my memory of all that I learned!33 hours
