SUMMER MENTORSHIP HOURS
3
8/4/20147At first I learned the prerequisites like how many years of school i need to go through and what kind of classes I need to focus on. Then I learned about the human body and the most common injuries that atheletes sustain. I also learned what PT's do to rehab these injuries and how rehabilitation works to strengthen the body after an injury. I had to learn and perform some exercises, after that I just shadowed as she worked with some of the players in the "boneyard"7
4
8/6/20145Spent the first hour or two learning about the muscles in the body and how they all work together in different movements. I also was taught exercises to strengthen certain muscle groups such as planks for core muscles and the different equipment used to build up smaller muscles like the ones in the hands. For the next two hours she taught me the indicators for certain injuries and what signs to look for in nagging injuries like a shoulderblade or rotator cuff injury. the last hour I learned about different types of taping wraps you can do for certain areas.12

9
11/7/20145Shadowed Brittany watching her tape players ankles and arch tapes. Mainly basketball player, there isn't much arch support in basketball shoes causing many asian female players to require arch taping. 20
10
2/5/20155Taped up players after practice, I wasn't able to tape players that had practice or a game coming up due to liability issues but I noticed a progression with the tape and the colored tape with arrows definitely helped me get the pattern down25
11
2/6/20155Game day, worked on my notes, brittany broke down the intricices of the hand because there was a broken finger that occured during the basketball game30
12
3/9/20155Headed over right after school to help prep for the game; filled waters, stretched players out, and helped Brittany tape players. We oversaw the boys varsity basketball game today and were just overseeing the game incase there were any injuries. After the game I made icebags and iced a player who had sprained their ankle after jumping for a loose ball.35
13
3/16/20155The player that rolled his ankle on Tuesday could not practice so we spent the day first re-evaluating his injury to check how the recovery was going. Then we started to strenthen the smaller muscles surrounding the ankle joint using resistance bands and doing range of motion exercises.40
14
3/23/20155Game day for baseball, preped for the game the usual way water, stretching, and taping; this time focusing stretching on the shoulders and did post game icing.45
