This is a collection of data points gathered from dispatch records and radio communications transcriptions, body camera recordings, weather reports, social media posts, emergency management logs, and other sources. The data points in this timeline begin just prior to the start of the Palisades Fire on January 7, 2025, at 10:30 (10:30 a.m. PST) to when fire progression through the built environment lessened and when sufficient resources were available to address the existing threat for the Palisades and Eaton Fires on the morning of January 8, 2025.

Records highlighted in blue are referenced in the Southern California Fires Timeline report (Phase I) prepared by ULRI.About UL Research Institutes

The information collected for this spreadsheet is sorted chronologically and represents the data provided to UL Research Institutes' Fire Safety Research Institute by Los Angeles County, Los Angeles City, Ventura County, and cooperating agencies and should not be considered a complete record of events. ULRI will continue to accept data during the Phase Two Analysis report development.

Due to the volume of recorded radio communications, we used an AI tool to transcribe the recordings, however, it was incomplete with many records being unintelligible. These are a translation and may not be verbatim. To ensure useful data was captured from the unintelligible transcripts, ULRI personnel with specific emergency responder expertise listened and transcribed radio recordings from selected transmissions during critical timeframes of incidents. These select transmissions were reviewed by additional research team members to verify language accuracy and confirm intent.
