- Study: https://www.uua.org/ga/congregations/delegates
- Read and review the proposed issues for the assembly attend
- Preparing for General Assembly workshop(s) about planned issues to discuss and understand the congregation’s response/concerns
- Attend plenary sessions (business meetings) at assembly and vote as appropriate
- Contribute to a consolidated report back to the Board and congregation after the assembly (major vote results, new resolutions, significant theme messages)
DELEGATE VOTING
From UUA website: “The relationship between a congregation and its delegates is determined by the congregation, not the UUA. There are no guidelines in the UUA Bylaws governing individual congregations. So, if a congregation wants to instruct its delegates, it can.”
UCE APPROACH TO VOTING
Delegates are informed by their study, by Denominational Affairs Team guidance, and by what the congregation has to say.
Delegates vote on their own, not as a UCE bloc. A delegate will learn and listen to the congregation, but is not obligated to vote in a specific way. The congregation allows delegates to vote in the manner each delegate deems best for the general welfare of the congregation, using as a lens the UCE mission, covenant of engagement, UUA Values, and equity concerns. The delegate will also consider the wider considerations for the association, and the longer view that may be provided at GA, including any amendments that arise at assembly.
