Incoming U12-U14 Evaluation Process
Step 1Review the Process
All U11-U14 current head coaches are asked to work with their assistant coaches to use these guidelines to fill out an evaluation summary sheet for their team and turn it in by MAY 25, 2010. When the head coach sends back the form, the assistant coaches must be copied on the email to ensure that they have been involved with the player ratings. The PPC may elect to follow up directly with an assistant coach on the team.
We moved the date up this year to allow us to get a preread on the players.
Incoming U12-U14 players will also participate in scheduled evaluation sessions in June. The evaluators will provide the Team Formation Committee with ratings for each player. Two sessions for each grade/gender are held and two separate ratings given. Each players' higher rating of the two scores will be the one used for placement, not the average. Tim Chant, the WYS Director of Coach will also be providing evaluation input.
The Team Formation Committee will combine the coach evaluations with the higher rating from the evaluation sessions, along with input from Tim Chant, to help determine team formation and player placement. After teams have been formed, coaches for the Fall 2010 season will be selected by the Team Formation Committee.

Technical Unopposed - Players demonstrate the ability to perform skills and techniques (repeatedly) under no pressure from other players.
RATING1Can perform techniques with noticeable change of speed and direction with both feet.
2Performs techniques with some change of speed and direction and with both feet.
3Performs techniques with either change of speed and direction, favors one side/foot.
4Able to perform techniques at slow speed, not always successfully.
5Can perform techniques, but not repeatedly with success. Often loses control of the ball.
6Unable to perform techniques.
Functional 1 vs 1 - Players demonstrate the ability to perform skills and techniques (repeatedly) against an opponent or opponents under pressure
RATING1Performs techniques and is able to beat opposition on both sides with a variety of moves at speed.
2Performs techniques and is able to beat opposition at speed, but favors one side or one move.
3Beats opposition less than 50% of time, not able to perform techniques at speed.
4Sometimes beats the opposition, can perform techniques but not under pressure.
5Sometimes beats the opposition, usually by forcing the ball or with several touches. May take several seconds.
6Cannot beat opposition.
Game Play & Awareness and Fitness - Player is able to perform a role within a game (conditioned or small/large sided) and contributes both individually and to his or her team's play. Understands basic rules and positions. Fitness level.
RATING1Contributes significantly to the game with both individual and team play. Can play multiple positions. Understands rules. Highest level of fitness.
2Always involved. Can play more than one position. Good understanding of the game. High level of fitness.
3Often involved in the game. Mostly stays in one position. Understands most of the rules.
4In and out of the game. Inconsistent, can be good but also can sometimes not be involved. May wander out of position.
5On the edge of the game. Only involved when the ball comes near them. Does not understand all rules and positions. Limited fitness level.
6Not involved. Wanders around and stays out of the play. Does not understand the rules. Limited fitness level.
Attitude and Coachability - Player listens to and follows instructions from the coach(es) and tries to put these teachings into action with the appropriate behavior and effort.
RATING1Good attitude. Always works hard. Actively works with the coach to make their game better
2Good attitude. Works hard most of the time. Consistently applies learned skills to game play.
3Listens but sometimes attention wanders. Sometimes can lack effort. Can apply learned skills to game play.
4Lacks effort unless pushed. Attention can wander if not supervised. Sometimes applies learned skills to game play.
5Easily led by others and can go off task. Rarely applies learned skills to game play.
6Poor trainer. Does not follow instructions well and distracts others.
Step 3Rank Your Players
Stack Rank - To give us a another indication of players' current playing status this season, we are asking you to stack rank your team, thereby breaking any ties that show up in the evaluation criteria. This ranking will be used as a factor in tier formation, but does not add into the player's rating from above.
Step 4Determine the Commitment Level
Commitment to Soccer / Attendance - Soccer players develop skill through increasing their time and touches with the ball and simply playing as a team. Thus, attendance at games and practice participation is critical. This will be used as a factor in team formation, but does not add into the player's rating from above. Based on attendance records for games, enter the number of games each player showed up for out of the total number of games played by your team to date this spring season: i.e. 7 of 8.
Comments - Use the Comments column to provide more information about attendance, attitude, or other issues that may affect placement.
