3/29/2014Olympic Cafe, Kapa'a$13.992$7.00ahibeans, rice, spicy mango salsa (yummy!), topped with a grilled banana, peel included. :-/Bananas don't really go well with fish...at least not with ahi. There was way too much rice and beans on the plate, especially with only 2 tortillas. The mango salsa was the only good thing about this dish.2http://wp.me/p76Vk6-j

3/31/2014Paco's Tacos$12.503$4.17onocabbage and a tasty (but definitely commercial) cilantro saucethe fish was definitely fresh, which made a difference. However, the tortillas were really stale, which made the whole taco rather dry.3.5http://wp.me/p76Vk6-w

4/1/2014Mermaids Cafe, Kapa’a$13.002$6.50ahifresh salsa and greens, LOTS of black beansThe ahi was cut into manageable bits, lying on a bed of healthy brown rice. The salsa and greens were a delicious compliment to the fish. The tortillas weren’t handmade, but at least they weren’t stale!4http://tacos.supermaren.com/2014/04/01/mermaids-cafe/

4/15/2014Guisado Tacos$9.003$3.00white fishServed atop black beans, topped with cabbage, avocado/ cilantro cream, chile arbol, and pico de gallo. Both tacos were amazing. My mouth was having a huge party at Guisado's, and my taste for tacos is ruined forever. These guys make their tortillas fresh. I mean, so fresh that you are watching them roll out the dough as you are standing in line. The tortillas are small, but dense and deliciously chewy. I can't even describe how awesome it tastes. Be careful, though; my eyes were bigger than my stomach, and I ordered too many tacos, thinking I would be hungry with such small portions. Those tortillas fill you up.5http://wp.me/p76Vk6-1p

Landshark Bar & Grill (Atlantic City, NJ)
$16.992$8.50tilapiaa weird cole slaw stuff the fish is overcooked, tortillas are stale, and the sauce is pretty mayonnaise-y.0.5

Taqueria La Veracruzana
$9.003$3.00tilapiaonion, lettuce, tomatoes, cheeseThese tacos were good. They weren’t amazing-knock-my-socks-off, but they weren’t terrible either. Definitely good comfort food, and the atmosphere of the restaurant was welcoming, which scored points with me. The tortillas weren’t fresh, though, and neither was the fish, so I had to deduct points for that. I have a feeling the meaty tacos are much better there than the fish tacos…everyone I talk to raves about their tacos al pastor.3.5http://tacos.supermaren.com/2014/08/28/taqueria-la-veracruzana/

Ocean City Brewing Company, Ocean City, MD
$14.003$4.67mahi-mahigeneric cole slaw they opted for a spicy, creamy sauce that just ended up tasting like nothing except pepper. The fish was cooked well, but obviously not fresh, since mahi-mahi isn’t exactly a local fish.1

11/21/2014Eureka!$9.502$4.75mahi-mahimango slaw and some sort of special creamy saucenot bad...but I'm just not a fan of the creamy sauce with fish tacos. And the tortillas weren't super fresh but it was completely passable.3http://tacos.supermaren.com/2014/11/21/eureka-claremont-ca/

11/23/2014Puesto$12.003$4.00tunahandmade tortillas, guacamole, and some habanerosthe fish was VERY tasty, but it was overpowered by the kick-your-ass-down-the-street habaneros. I guess I needed to clear my sinuses anyway.4http://tacos.supermaren.com/2014/11/23/puesto-la-jolla-ca/

4/4/2015Outback Cherry Hill$9.993$3.33mahi-mahislaw and salsa...and a mint (?) aioliit wasn't as bad as I had feared, but the bar was set very low. The fish had a little bit of that freezer-burn taste, which is never good.2http://wp.me/p76Vk6-Q

1/9/2016Buena Onda$8.002$4.00mahi-mahi, swordfishMAHI - Chipotle remoulade, avocado, red cabbage, jicama slaw

SWORDFISH - black bean purée, apple/chayote slaw, crème fraîche, charred lime juice
Both tacos were made with fresh tortillas, which automatically brings it up a few points in my mind. MAHI - delicious. I don't usually like mayonnaise-like sauces with my fish tacos, but this was such a perfect combo that I am willing to suspend my rule. SWORDFISH - the black bean purée was okay, but a little jarring after the remoulade. I also wish the portion had been a bit larger, since it was more expensive!4http://wp.me/p76Vk6-19

1/9/2016Revolution Taco$8.002$4.00swordfishpickled red cabbage, avocado (according to the menu, but I couldn't taste or see any), poblano cremathe poblano crema is exactly the creamy sauce that I *don't* like, and it definitely made the experience more mediocre for me. The creamy sauce, paired with the pickled cabbage, was not a great combo. That being said, I was interested in the vegetarian options that they offered (which I didn't get because I'm mainly focused on fish tacos here). Each taco was served with two tortillas, which kept it from falling apart, but which also made it feel heavier in my stomach.3http://wp.me/p76Vk6-1b

1/9/2016El Rey$14.003$4.67octopuspico de gallo, roasted pineapple salsa, creamy corn and poblano saladMaybe it's because of the awesome atmosphere, maybe yes because the waitress totally sold me on the octopus...but these tacos definitely hit the mark for me. The dressing was spicy and not too creamy. The tortillas were fresh, always high points for me (although my absolute favorite tortilla was made right in front of my eyes. That's hard to beat).4.5http://wp.me/p76Vk6-1d
