One ounce UPU letter rate cover sent via registry service to Bangkok, Siam (modern day Thailand). Originally sent through San Francisco (see exchange labels) in error and marked "Missent to San Francisco Cal." The envelope was transferred back to New York en route to Bangkok.

Advertising cover from 1903 sent to Bandjermasin, Borneo, Dutch East India (modern-day Indonesia). Sent from Quincy, Ill and placed aboard the Chicago-Kanas City Rail (R.P.O.) by mistake and marked 'MISSENT.' The cover eventually made its way to New York where it traveled by sea to Borneo arriving about a month later.

1905 postcard sent from Chicago to Belize (Britsh Honduras) via New Orleans; it only took 12 days for this card to make its way to the tiny British colony.

A ten-cents Webster stamp paid double the letter rate for up to one-ounce to Bluefields, Nicaragua. The letter was missent to Bluefields, West Virginia, and forwarded to Nicaragua.

1905 New York to Kamerun (Cameroon), German West Africa. Six cents of postage was applied (<a href="https://www.neddog.com/stamps/covers/cameroon_b.jpg" target="_blank">see back</a>) to overpay the UPU letter rate by one penny.

Postcard with two 1c Franklins on <a href="https://www.neddog.com/stamps/covers/crete_pc.jpg" target="_blank">face</a> sent to Candia, Crete.

1906 Milwaukee, Wisconsine to Christiansted, St Croix Dutch West Indies, sent at the 5c UPU letter rate. St Croix is now apart of the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Small cover franked with a 5c Lincoln stamp from New York to A(rthur). Stubbs on Turks Island in 1908. The Stubbs family was an early colonial family to the West Indies.

1905 cover to the Kashmir region of India. Initially received in Srinagar, then forwarded to the Buddhist village of Gilgit to the Yale geography professor <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ellsworth_Huntington" target="_blank">Ellsworth Huntington</a>. Mr. Huntington received this letter during his exploration of east Asia.

Surveyors' and Engineers' Instruments advertising cover franked with a 5c stamp paying the UPU letter rate to Grand Batanga, Kamerun, West Aftrica (modern day Camaroon).

1907 Stockton, California to Hong Kong, China. Most Pacific bound mail was routed through San Francisco. San Francisco exchange labels are the second most common next to the New York labels.

1907 registered envelope from New York to Constantinople, Turkey (modern-day Istanbul). Thirteen cents were paid for 5c postage and an 8c registry fee.

Keetmanshoop, German Southwest Africa

Five 1c Franklin stamps pay the UPU rate from Livingston, NY to Keetmanshoop, German Southwest Africa. During the late 1800s and early 1900s, colonialism in Africa was rampant with horrific genocide following.

Envelope from Boston to La Paz, Bolivia. Franked with a 5c Lincoln stamp to pay for up to a 1/2 ounce, however, the letter was overweight and was marked taxed (T) twice the UPU 25-centimes rate.

Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Canary Islands

Four times UPU letter rate cover registered to Peru and subsequently forwarded back to New York (3c postage on the reverse). Registered mail forwarded was kept under lock and key until ultimately delivered.

1906 two times the 5c UPU letter rate with registry service (8¢) from Honolulu, Hawaii to Macequece, South East Africa (modern day Mozambique). Transit marks on reverse include, New York, London, and Macequece.

Up to 4 ounces to Matupi, New Pomerania (modern day Papua New Guinea). Wrappers were used to hold newspapers or other printed documents.

Larger wrapper with 50c Jefferson and 10c Webster stamps paying 12 times the UPU letter rate. This is the earliest documented use of the 50c 2nd Bureau stamp.

1905 cover to South Wales, England sent at the UPU letter rate of 5c per 1/2 ounce. The US/Great Britain postal treaty was not in effect yet (1908).

UPU letter rate from San Francisco, California to Panama. Via New York was written on the face; however, there is a New Orleans transit mark. It was unlikely the cover made its way to New York.

Registered letter from Ohio to Suriname, Dutch Guiana (modern day Suriname) via New York. The 23c franking paid for 3 times the UPU letter rate (1.5 ounces) and 8c registry fee.

1906 one ounce cover (two time UPU letter rate) registered from Boston (with Boston exchange label) carried directly to France by the steamship Oceanic.
