8 | Ethical | Business ethics, community ethics & attitudes, corruption risks | Neoliberal theory creates ethical belief out of capitalism, which actually has no ethics as it is an organizing model. This has defined business culture and by extension popular culture, thus we have a growth in non-ethical culture (possible cause for mass unhappiness?). Unethical behavior is easily rationalized in such an environment. Integrating permaculture or other ethics into all design is a leap in sophistication; Need to be aware of our own ethical lapses as well as of external unethical behavior and how it impacts us or our projects. | Ethics can be a wonderful design tool & self auditing process; extending project ethics to account for all life yields innovative thinking; Helping others anchor in ethics could revolutionize how people show up in the world; and design businesses; validating and promoting conscious business ethics provides good leverage point for culture change. | People without ethical limitations will try to take advantage of you; self-awareness of ethical shortcomings can be stressful | Personal: Have developed lesson plans that introduce ethics as a design imperative. 9 | Pattern Reflections: If there is a single characteristic that stands out from these many sectors it is incipient change. So much change suggests that opportunities for directing change are abundant. With change also comes widespread anxiety and a general desire to believe that positive change is possible. Even though the dominant visible trends are towards what Theoy U calls absencing, that being a reflex to entrench in old patterns of thinking and being and to reject innovative visioning, this pattern also tends to worsen circumstances and thus increase the desire for positive alternatives. I believe these patterns indicate a ripe moment in history for disseminating ecosocial solutions. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
