April 21 is a school holiday so this day would be an wonderful opportunity for a few students who need volunteer hours for their upcoming graduation. All are welcome to help us with the home and garden tour. We are in need about 10 more volunteers.

Our tour includes a private historic home c. 1865 in Fairfax and two private homes in Oak Hill as well as the Historic Vale Church c. 1896 in Oakton. The website is www.vagardenweek.org. The Fairfax County home and garden tour is advertised on page 33 in the Garden Club of Virginia Guidebook.

Shifts are 9am -1pm, 12-4pm, and All Day.

As a volunteer the student volunteer will receive a ticket to view all the properties on the Fairfax Co. tour on their free time before or after their shift.

Volunteer at AFRH-DC
While residents and staff members at AFRH work together to build a strong network of care and support, we rely on our dedicated volunteers to help maintain our positive and supportive atmosphere.

The AFRH is happy to welcome community groups, student organizations and seniors to share their talents and interests with our residents in various volunteer opportunities available at our campus. To begin the volunteer process, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator who will provide you with a volunteer application. Please note that a background check is required to register as a community volunteer.

Holiday

Holidays are a special time for our residents. Contact our Volunteer Team in advance for more information about helping on the following holidays: Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day, Halloween, Veteran's Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, among others.

Donations

Donations make it possible for us to continue to offer important Veteran programming and support. Monetary and non-monetary contributinos are accepted. Please contact the Volunteer Coordinator to discuss any contributions prior to collection and delivery. Your support is welcomed and appreciated!

Applications for 2026 Crew Members positions are open from January 1, 2026, to March 13, 2026, at 5 p.m. Applications require two professional or academic references to be submitted by the application due date.
Late reference submissions will not be considered.

Youth, ages 14 through 17, are encouraged to apply. Youth must be at least 14 years of age by June 1, 2026, and be going into their first/freshman year of high school.

Crew Members may also receive credit for community service hours, which will correspond with the hours worked over the two-week session.

Youth are expected to have their own email and bank account to participate in this opportunity. It is not sufficient to use a parent’s email or bank account.
