The AWK-106 Example Bill of Materials Spreadsheet

This spreadsheet is meant to serve as an example for how to organize a Bill of Materials for a small batch production hardware builds. In short, it's meant to serve as a single place to write down and organize the "recipe" for where to buy everything for a product and how to build it. Note that there are two different "views" of the BoM, the first is the "engineering view," which shows how the finished product is defined

The second view is more manufacturing oriented and gets to the level of routing raw materials to stations to perform work. It is included here as an example, but is geared more to batch builders that will be making product in house.

THE RULES:

1. Nothing ever gets deleted from the spreadsheet!

2. Every batch build gets a new tab. When a tab is started the "as released" build is in black text. Additions are new and are blue. Removals are noted with strikethroughs and changed to red. One off "experiments" or "tests" for each batch are in green. There is a column for recording change notice numbers.

3. Inventory is dynamic with time, so we have a basic planning approach. ON HAND + ON ORDER - COMMITTED TO BUILD = LEFTOVER. If we make sure that LEFTOVER >= 0, we'll be ok for the build. There is a column for recording purchase information.

4. When a build is finished, we protect it to prevent further editing. (Although this would be a great place to store quality information, customer issues, etc...)
