The EUPISD is a progressive agency that gives school psychologists the freedom and flexibility to pursue their passions. Wherever your passions and interests lie, there will be opportunities for you to be involved with initiatives in those areas. Current progressive innovations with which school psychologists are currently involved include PREPaRE crisis response, threat assessment, ABA therapy, concussion baseline assessment, MTSS coaching, LGBTQ+ student support, inter-agency youth mental health collaboration, and more. You will have one primary supervisor, but we take a supervision approach in which you will get to work with six different school psychologists (two of which are BCBAs who can supervise BCBA hours). The EUPISD covers 20 school districts across 4000 square miles, including the school on Mackinac Island.

Montcalm is a largely rural county; however, many experiences are available for an intern to work with students of all age groups and within both rural and urban settings. Local districts are currently in different places implementing MTSS with at least one district having a well developed MTSS system. Other districts would allow the opportunity to practice the PSW model and support growing MTSS systems. Interns would also have access to work with students in varying programs (ASD, EI, MICI, MOCI, etc) as well as early childhood. All school psychologists in MAISD are ADOS trained, and START trainings are regularly offered within district. School psychologists collaborate with a variety of teams including threat assessment, crisis response, PBIS, teacher assistance or child study, etc. Opportunities for consultation, direct and indirect behavioral support, and counseling are also available.
