Hamilton Community Schools is able to provide a robust internship experience. In addition to conducting psycho-educational evaluations, the intern will have the opportunity to participate and support the well established MTSS system. This includes participating in data review meetings (e.g. Benchmark, Tier 2/3 reviews, PBSP reviews). There will be opportunities to lead intervention groups and support our elementary Intensive Resource and ASD programs.

While focused primarily in the elementary setting, secondary experiences can be incorporated as well.

The first semester, the intern would work daily with a fully certified School Psychologist and will be working towards independence for the second semester.

Interns receive 2 hours weekly of individual supervision, 2 hours weekly of group supervision, and 2 hours weekly of didactics. Typically, interns are assigned to one school for which they are responsible for traditional school psychology service delivery. Interns also complete quarterly rotations through 4 specialized sites: Preschool, Doris Henderson and Sylvia Mendez Newcomers Schools, Crossroads Alternative setting (day treatment style setting), and our 4 Public Separate Schools (alternative learning centers such as the Gateway Education and Hayne-Inman Centers, two national recognized schools that service children with severe disabilities and medical needs from birth to age 22). Interns are given additional assignments based on the intern's specific interests, the internship's training goals, and the needs of the school district and department.

We are motivated to tailor an internship experience to the areas of passion and professional interest of the intern. We have leaders with School Psych backgrounds that are dedicated to and supportive of the professional growth of staff. We have warm and friendly school districts with strong, collaborative relationships with the ISD/RESA. We have strong partnerships with our Instructional Services (Gen Ed) Department which also has a leader with a School Psych background. As a RESA we facilitate much of the countywide MTSS work with several of our School Psychs serving as building MTSS coaches and one serving as the countywide MTSS Specialist. We have recently merged our ASD and Behavior teams to create an Expanded Engagement Team. This Engagement Team coaches school teams and helps them to build capacity in their skillset to support students with complex needs. This team is split funded between Special Education and General Education and therefore supports teams at all tiers. Our service range spans Birth-age 26 so in addition to the tradition K-12 programming, we have options for those with a passion for early childhood or post-secondary programming.

Montcalm is a rural county located conveniently near Big Rapids, Mt. Pleasant, and Grand Rapids. All local districts are working toward implementation of MTSS. All school psychologists in MAISD are ADOS trained, and START trainings are regularly offered within district. Continuing professional development is greatly encouraged. School psychologists collaborate with a variety of teams including threat assessment, crisis response, PBIS, teacher assistance or child study, etc. Opportunities for consultation, direct and indirect behavioral support, and counseling are available. This is a comprehensive, supervised internship as a school psychologist with opportunities to apply and integrate knowledge and skills learned through a school psychology graduate program. The SP Intern will assist their assigned, fully certified, School Psychologist Supervisor in the administration of special education related evaluations and activities and general education preventative practices (including but not limited to PBIS, MTSS, Child Study, crisis response). Under the supervision of the School Psychologist, the intern will complete the
associated documentation for the purpose of accurate compliance with district, state, and federal requirements. The School Psychologist Intern’s role is also to help meet the unique behavioral & socio-emotional needs of students as identified by school staff.
