@OsgoodeIFLSThe day Trump was elected I quit (but did not delete...) FB and started paying for (inter alia) the Guardian. Made sense then/still does. Support quality public journalism, read it, share it, pay for it, buy it for others in your life who can't or won't.

@OsgoodeIFLSit's making me think about the corporate products targeted at women, use (legal & illegal) made of the data we provide, and corporations that deliberately magnify and exploit tendencies to misogyny, racism, etc, in service of their paying clients. 2/2

@OsgoodeIFLSCriminal Code 162.1 added in 2014 to criminalise publication etc of an intimate image w/o consent @LEAFNational panellist @MollyMReynolds describing hearings starting 2012 & slow legal & legislative response to image based sexual harassment & violence
March 20, 2018 at 07:06PM
@OsgoodeIFLSAppreciating @MollyMReynolds attention to the challenges of recognizing the operation of paternalism in recognizing (even creating?) the harms of image based sexual violence & the narrow lines we walk to make use of paternalistic views about women's sexuality.

@OsgoodeIFLSDoe v ND 2016 ONSC 541 (CanLII) is the civil tort case addressed by the @LEAFNational panellists if you are looking for it #cyberviolence
March 20, 2018 at 07:19PM
@OsgoodeIFLSAngela Chaisson discussing the placement of the newish 162.1 provision in the voyeurism part of the Code, not near the sexual assault provisions. She points to the additional consequences of conviction under the sexual assault provisions s271 vs lesser consequences of 162.1
March 20, 2018 at 07:22PM
@OsgoodeIFLSPanellists turning to the advice they may offer women who come to say "i just want it to stop". Civil, criminal, otherwise practical steps to make it stop. Multi year litigation is really not viable for most people emotionally or financially. Criminal law harms many complainants.
March 20, 2018 at 07:29PM
@OsgoodeIFLSVery grateful for this panel- Interestd in the value,
meaning, implications, of trying to insist on response to this problem by drawing analogy to sexual assault given other forms of legal harm also encompassed by these experiences of IBSV/revenge porn. Tks @LEAFNational

@OsgoodeIFLSHave to get back to work/thanks to all panellists. So interesting and a huge range of questions and concerns and possibilities raised.

@OsgoodeIFLSOh I did manage to catch that last piece where @alexiwood noted case law and discussions are dominated by stories of white women w financial means and then ...
March 20, 2018 at 07:45PM
@OsgoodeIFLSAs part of recognizing the financial realities @mollyMReynolds specifically mentioned the possibility of students (not even necessarily law students - tech maybe) doing some of the mechanics of "take down" work.
