Brief Description:In a switch to performance-based funding, it is important to have mechanisms in place that ensure improvement in cost centers as well as revenue centers. Through this session we will provide a step-by-step guide to forming teams tasked with fostering a culture of continuous improvement in NJIT’s support centers.Consolidating common services in shared services centers opens the door to operational efficiency and reduced duplication of efforts. A successful move to shared service centers, though, requires thoughtful planning, communication, and collaboration. This session will help Support Center Leadership consider scaling administrative services through a thoughtful and strategic move to shared services centers.This session will provide an introduction to best practices in annual department and program review with metrics that are actionable at the department level. These metrics, which include cost control, enrollment growth, and improved student success, will help Chairs plan for systematic improvement. Through this session and an accompanying workshop, Chairs will learn to develop data-informed annual review processes.In this session, centered on improving managerial practices, we will discuss policies and practices that allow for labor cost curve bending over time. This session also offers an introduction to strategic vacancy review, task-by-task analysis on work completion, and cross-training for staff.In this session, Deans will learn to analyze and evaluate the performance of academic programs to determine which are contributing to success in NJIT’s new budget model. The will also develop good systems of annual department review to ensure continuous improvement aligned with budget model success.Launching a new program involves inherent financial and reputational risk. With the right strategy and pre-launch analysis, these risks can be mitigated. This session offers Department Chairs, Enrollment Managers, and Program Launch Staff best practice tactics on avoiding mistakes in new program launch. We will also share EAB-created market research reports on both the existing portfolio and potential new program launches. Course topics include costs-benefit analysis, forecasting, and mitigation of financial and reputational risk.
