Noah HolmOffice of Classroom Managementn/an/aStay informed about emerging solution for broad use; for 3 areas: 1) hardware integration, 2) software integration, and 3) calendar/scheduling integrationWe currently focus on hardware AV inputs/outputs, and refer to OIT or local groups for software and hosting solutionsNoah replaced John Knowles, who did a lot of hands-on classroom items. Noah's working more with faculty, e.g., classroom recording. Noah represents the faculty voice for OCM. He's also working with items such as the connectors between notebook computers and instructor stations. He's helping with the general upgrades in various classrooms as well to ensure classroom upgrades are managed in an orderly fashion with transition and testing periods. OCM has a goal to make students' llives better, so that's what drives things like classroom recordings.

Darrin MosmanLaw School15-20hrs/week18 (plus 2 courtrooms)I-sound softwareAudio files are saved to a server the law school managesThe law school is using their own audio recordings system for classroom recording and is interesed in using an alternative system. Having video, in addition to audio, would be better. The ability to schedule classroom recordings would greatly improve our ability to manage the recordings. The 2 courtrooms have video, but it is all manual recordings and old equipment.
IF an instructor wants a video recording, they need to put in a request and we bring a camcorder to the classroom and retrieve it after. The file is edited and put on a webpage for them to access the video with a password.
There are no standards for software and hardware integration in OCM classrooms for lecture capture. Perhaps creating a best practices document for lecture capture would help create a better user experience IE. hardware, software, media management and storageJust bought a $5K RL220 for their event space in the Law School. This is the medium-priced solution, so it has limitations. Darrin can set it and forget it, so that's beneficial. They also would like to buy two more units for their two courtrooms, eventually, if this is something OCM recommends. Jacob refers to this as "white glove."

Steve PanizzaCollege of PharmacyTypically 28+ hrs/weekTypically 20+Ease of video conference (H.323) integration. We currently multi-site into our own Tandberg Content Server and record on demand. Need adequate and easy storage and distribution systems for student, faculty, and staff viewing. Videos would have to be retained online for five years after date recorded.College of Pharmacy co-delivers almost all course content in real time to its Duluth campus extension through ITV. This includes regular administrative meetings and seminar events held weekly if not daily. Many of these are also recorded.

Ben CowperDepartment of Psychology, CLA150+ hours15 ishAt the moment it's all over the place, 1001, the largest class, would like to continue live capturing lectures and posting them same-day. Other courses, generally, pre-record segments or entire semesters in either lecture style or slideshow with accompanying audio. The needs are varied, currently the quality leaves a lot to be desired, and things move very slowly when integrating new technologies.I would like to see an overhaul of the current system (better quality cameras and lighting) or a new system that can continue to fill current needs, while allowing relative ease of use for professors looking to integrate video or lecture capture. While I don't mind doing it, there's no reason for me to have to stand behind the camera and press one button every time someone needs something recorded. I think a user friendly system would make things a lot easier for current faculty, and allow easier entry for new faculty.

Mediasite, Primarily pre-scheduledAHC Classroom Services' Mediasite Enterprise Video Platform, which is running on Virtual Servers, on OIT's "Hitachi block" / Fiber SAN, Now can go up to 8TB drives (recently was 4TB).Consistent audio is an issue. Table top mic gets moved around . . .We like the Mediasite option because we've been able to connect it to our Curriculum management system (BlackBag) for automatic scheduling and distribution.
