2
3
Purpose
4

How to use
10
1. Open the 'Mass Budget' sheet.
11
2. Set your form factor in cell C3 (1U, 1.5U, 2U, 3U, 6U, 12U).
12
3. The allocated mass limit will populate from the 'Limits' sheet.
13
4. Fill in components row-by-row. Yellow cells are inputs.
14
5. Adjust margin % per component based on maturity:
15
Datasheet only 30%
16
Mechanical CAD 20%
17
Engineering model 10%
18
Measured (flight) 5%
19
6. Watch the summary at the top for headroom vs. limit.

21
Color coding
22
Yellow background = Input cell (you change these)
23
Blue text = Hardcoded number that should normally stay fixed
24
Black text = Formula (do not edit unless you intend to)
25
Orange background = Warning; over budget or low margin

27
Form factor limits
28
Standard CubeSat allocation is 2 kg per U, set CDS 14.1. Some launch providers may allow more; see your launch provider's payload user guide for the actual contractual limit. Adjust the 'Limits' sheet if your launch provider differs.

Notes
34
- Masses are in grams throughout. Convert at the end if you need kg.
35
- Add or remove rows freely; the SUMIF totals will follow.
36
- 'Margin' in this template means contingency on a single component's mass.
37
System-level reserve (held by the systems lead) is tracked separately at
38
the bottom of the budget sheet.
