ABOUT THE SURVEY

The 2022 Data Visualization State of the Industry (SOTI) Survey, administered by the Data Visualization Society, ran September 1 through October 8, 2022. This survey was open to anyone in the world who practices data visualization.

Every respondent was asked up to 50 questions about professional details ranging from job titles, years of experience, and pay, to tools, charts, communication channels, learning resources and targets, challenges, changes, work hours, and tasks, plus demographic details.

In continuity with 2020 and 2021, this annual survey also differentiated 26 role-specific questions for practitioners doing data visualization in different contexts: as freelancers, organization employees, students, academics/teachers, and/or hobbyists.

The 2022 data files publish 1,568 responses for 73 of 76 questions. Each published table protects the privacy of respondents by removing, summarizing, or dissociating fields that might in combination identify an individual.
