The better digestion of foods we eat depends upon the better initiation of the process. And this initiation is concerned with our ability to chew the food. Some part of teeth may consist of normal porous bone structure but teeth themselves are essentially covered with an outer layer which is like a hard polish. This outer layer is known as tooth enamel and it is one of the hardest things human bodies can have.

But this is also the fact that nothing can be as stronger as our own habit. So, if your dental habits are destructive, they are eventually going to make the tooth enamel to wear out, leaving the inner structure exposed to the infections. Having that said, there are some dental habits which need to be mentioned here.

Chewing on ice
10
Nothing can be as pleasing in the hot summer days as crunching ice. It feels cool. But it is also the fact that chewing on ice puts tremendous amount of pressure on a structure like teeth. The hardness of ice combined with the extreme temperature change can damage the tooth enamel in a way a few other things are capable of. And if you have got a filling, you need to completely avoid chewing on ice because it can cause the filling to lose hold and get out of the teeth. Therefore, use ice only in the drinks.

Soft drinks and sodas
13
It is a well-known fact that sodas contain high content of sugar. On average, a can of soft drink contains 9 tablespoons of sugar, which makes the drink a super-saturated sugar drink. Sugar is the necessary source of energy for oral bacteria. But there is another thing which is called acid. Sodas contain different types of acids which contribute well in the de-mineralization of teeth. Hence, a can of soda has everything to destroy the tooth enamel and then dissolve minerals of the teeth.

Teeth grinding
16
There are a lot of ways we can express our anger and stress. Among these ways, grinding the teeth is most common one. When we grind our teeth, there are several things which tend to happen such as wearing out of tooth enamel, destruction of fillings, and gums getting the stress. Teeth affected form grinding look like the ones reduced due to the use of sandpaper. While you may be able to avoid it during the day time, most of the people can’t help but continuing it during the night. Hence, use of night guard can be beneficial in this regard.

Tobacco
19
While there is a general decline in smoking, people haven’t completely refrained from the use of tobacco. There are chewable tobacco products available worldwide which can do even bigger damage to the oral cavity. This is the reason that there has been a general increase in the cases of oral cancer. And since chewable tobacco involves chewing, the impact teeth receive during the process is kind of direct.
