QuestionThe Refugee Student Fund has allowed refugee students to gain access to a life-changing post-secondary
education at the University of Alberta since 1988. Over the next five years, it will provide financial
sponsorship through the World University Service of Canada (WUSC) for seven undergraduate refugee
students to study at the University of Alberta and gain Canadian Permanent Resident status. The fund
helps to cover initial sponsorship application costs, airfare expenses, and living and educational support
for sponsored refugee students. Through the Student Refugee Program (SP), refugee students gain access
to a university education to build a better life.
The conditions for the fund shall include:
1. Students cannot opt out of this fee.
2. This fee will be assessed to full-time, part-time, on-campus, and Augustana students.

3. This fee will be assessed in the Fall and Winter terms.
4. The board shall be composed of:
a. The SRP Coordinator of the WUSC Local Committee,
b. A Co-Chair of the WUSC Local Committee (North Campus),
c. One Member of the Local Committee,
d. One University of Alberta administration representative (non-voting),
e. The Chair (or Co-Chair) of the Campus Saint Jean EUMC Local Committee,
f. The Vice President (Operations & Finance) of the Students' Union,
g. Two councillors, appointed by the Students' Union
5. This fee will expire August 31, 2027.

Do you support a $1.50 fee per student per semester, in the Fall and Winter
semesters, to the Refugee Student Fund, effective September 1, 2022?
Student Legal Services (SLS) is a group that is operated by University of Alberta law students. SLS aims to
provide free legal assistance to low-income people in Edmonton and University of Alberta students. Each
year, approximately 250 students from the Faculty of Law volunteer with SLS to provide legal assistance
and education in the areas of criminal law, family law and civil law. If the referendum is successful, Student
Legal Services will implement the following services to assist University of Alberta students:
A. Residency Assist: A project dedicated to assisting University of Alberta Students with legal issues
involving living in University of Alberta residences, including dormitories such as Lister
B. Human Rights Project: An expanded Human Rights Project that represents and files claims at the
Alberta Human Rights Tribunal. This project will allow University of Alberta students who are facing
discrimination to find justice;
C. Student Group Assist: Dedicated materials and caseworkers as a part of an expanded civil project
that will assist Student Groups with legal issues specifically dealing with managing such groups,
including information and assistance relating to the Societies Act;
D. Trans ID Services: Expanded operations of Student Legal Services' trans ID project, which assists and
commissions the changing of gender markers on government issued ID for those with need; and
E. Sexual Violence Legal Reform Project: an investigation and report on how legal frameworks such as
collective agreements, the Criminal Code, and non-disclosure agreements, prevent perpetrators of
sexual violence on university campuses from seeing justice.
The conditions for the fund shall include:
1. The fee shall be assessed to full-time, part-time, and on-campus students in the Fall and Winter
semesters.
2. Students cannot opt-out of this fee.
3. Augustana students are exempt from this fee.
4. This fee will expire August 31, 2027.

Do you support a $3.00 fee per student per semester, in the Fall and Winter
semesters to the Student Legal Services Fund, effective September 1, 2022?
The Alberta Public Interest Research Group (APIRG) seeks to foster positive social change and empower
students with the tools to become active, engaged citizens. Annually, APIRG distributes $52,000 in direct
grants to student and community-led social initiatives. The conditions of the funds will include:
1. Students shall have the option to opt out via the SU website at the beginning of each term and
receive a full refund of their fee;
2. The fee will be assessed only in the Fall and Winter Terms;
3. APIRG continues to function as a student-run non-profit organization in accordance with its mandate
of research, education, advocacy, and action in the public interest as per Schedule 6000 of the
Studentsʼ Union Bylaws.
4. The Board will be made up of at least 9 appointed members and 1 SU Councilor.
5. Augustana Students are exempt.
6. O
-campus students, as defined by the University Calendar, are included.
7. This fee will expire August 31, 2027.

Do you support a fee of $3.75 per term, in each of the Fall and Winter semesters, for full-time students and $1.88 for part-time students to fund APIRG, effective
September 1, 2022?
The Campus Food Bank (CFB) is a charity dedicated to combating food insecurity on campus. It is open to all undergraduate students, graduate students, staff, recent alumni and their families/dependents. The CFB believes that university is a place where one should hunger for knowledge, not food.
Funding areas:
Programming, events, outreach and awareness;
Fundraising events and food drives;
Volunteer program.
The conditions of the fund shall include:
1. The fee will be collected from full-time, part-time, and on-campus undergraduate students in the Fall and Winter semester;
2. Augustana students will be exempt.
3. Students will have the option to opt out online from the fee.
4. Funding areas are determined and prioritized by the CFB's standing board. The board will consist of 7 to 15 members from the following categories:
a. One Students' Union Executive member or delegate appointed from Students' Union Council.
b. One Graduate Studentsʼ Association representative.
c. One volunteer representative (selected by the volunteer membership).
d. 4-12 community members.
5. This fee will expire August 31, 2027.

Do you support a $1.06 fee per student, in the Fall and Winter semester, to fund the
Campus Food Bank (CFB), effective September 1, 2022?
The Education Students' Association (ESA) is the student Faculty Association for the Faculty of Education, as well as a member of Student Local No.1 of the Alberta Teachers' Association (ATA). Undergraduate education students enrolled prior to August 31, 2021 have been assessed an annual Faculty Association Membership Fee of $8.00. This fee has since expired.
The ESA's proposed budget is consistent with those of previous years, including (but is not limited to) the following services:
Professional development events
Conferences
Administration and elections
Emergency funding
Graduation
Social events
The conditions of the fee shall include:
1. It shall be distributed according to the framework approved by the University of Alberta Students'
Union Students' Council and is subject to the oversight of the Audit Committee.
2. This fee will be applied to all undergraduate Education students, except those enrolled in on-campuscollaborative programs.
3. The same fee will be applied to full-time and part-time students.
4. The fee shall only be charged in the Fall semester.
5. Students joining the Faculty of Education after the fee is collected in the Fall term may request a
membership by contacting the ESA.
6. Students may opt out of this fee by contacting the ESA before October 31st of the year it is charged.
7. The fee will have a three (3) year lifetime with an expiry of August 31, 2025.

Do you support a Faculty Association Membership Fee for the Education Students'
Association to be assessed at a rate of $8.00 per academic year effective September 1, 2022?
The International Students' Association (ISA) is a Student Representative Association representing all
undergraduate international students at the University of Alberta. The ISA advocates for interests such as
hybrid lecture delivery, recording lectures, Ride Transit Program inclusion, anti-racism, campus safety, etc.
and provides programs/services to its members. The ISA is proposing a fee of $3.50 per semester per
international student. Students who are not on campus (co-op/internship or study term) will not be
charged this fee.
The ISA seeks to create an International Students' Association Fee (ISAF) to do the following:
Expand the I-Card (Discount Card) Program to help international students get discounts and save
money at restaurants, stores, retailers, etc.
Provide events and programs year-round such as International Students' Day (I-Day), bonfires, and
social nights.
Fund student groups, including BIPOC and regional groups (CSSA, INDSA, etc.) to subsidize events
and programs planned by international students.
Provide welcome services to new international students with customized orientation programs and
welcome booklets.
Host mental health workshops and professional development activities such as career fair, alumni
nights, and time management/burnout prevention workshops.
Support ISA operations and the creation of an International Students' Hub on campus.
Provide dedicated awards for international students.
Conditions:
The fee will have a two (2) year lifetime, Starting September 1, 2022, and expiring on August 31, 2024.
ISAF is an optional fee, thus students may opt-out of paying the fee by filling out an online form
found on the ISA website.
Accountability, transparency and administration: The fee shall be under the the supervision of the
University of Alberta Students' Union Audit Committee, and ISA shall release annual audited
statements on the usage of the fee to all its members. The ISA Board/Council members shall
administer the fee and be directly elected by international students.

Do you support the creation of the ISAF for the International Students' Association
to be assessed at a rate of $3.50 per semester effective September 1, 2022 with an
option to opt-out at the start of every semester?
The Interdepartmental Science Students' Society (ISSS) is a Faculty Association representing
undergraduate Science Students. ISSS currently collects a $5.00 fee from part- and full-time students in Fall
and Winter semesters enrolled in the Faculty of Science to support science-specific initiatives and
advocacy e-sports.
Initiatives and services include:
Locker rentals
Scholarships
Handbooks
Free tutoring and professional development events
Orientation
Funding to science faculty clubs
Graduation banquet
Science Week and much more
Conditions of the Fee:
1. It shall be distributed according to the framework approved by the University of Alberta
Undergraduate Students' Union and Students' Council and is subject to the oversight of the Audit
Committee.
2. The same fee will be applied to full-time and part-time students enrolled in the Faculty of Science.
3. The fee will be charged in the Fall and Winter semesters.
4. Students may opt out of this fee by contacting ISSS.
5. This fee will expire on August 31, 2026.

assessed at $5.00 for each of the Fall and Winter semesters, effective September 1, 2022?
The Augustana Students' Association (ASA) is the student representative association for the Augustana Campus. As a student at Augustana, you are currently charged a faculty association membership fee of $65.00 in each of the fall and winter semesters. You are voting in this referendum because the fee must be renewed every 5 years.
