Information for the years 1995 to 2000 excludes all children looked after under a series of agreed short term placements, information for the years 2001 onwards includes children looked after under a series of short term placements who subsequently change legal status as defined in footnotes 8 and 9. Information on children looked after for a single period of accommodation under Section 20 during the course of the year who subsequently change legal status is included for all years.

3. Figures for the years 1995 to 2000 has been produced using a different methodology to later years. This is due to the change in coding resulting from the change to the legal framework in 2001. Information for these years may not be comparable with later years and should be treated with caution.

4. Information on children looked after is sourced from the SSDA903, the information collected changed in 2001 to reflect the new legal framework introduced in 2000.
