Healthy Life NGO BIKORIMANA MAGARI SYLVESTRE projectHEALTHY LIFE NGO est activement impliquée dans plusieurs initiatives combinant Action Anticipatoire et Nutrition, particulièrement dans les provinces à haut risque de crise alimentaire en République Démocratique du Congo.
Nos activités s’articulent autour des axes suivants :

ACTION CONTRE LA FAIM -FRANCELAPOTRE LéonorprojectSIDA-funded project implemented by ACF FR: The proposed initiative builds on ACF's expertise in AA and focuses specifically on anticipating the impacts of natural hazards on malnutrition. The project uses a “research-action” methodology based on localized research, developed in collaboration with communities, local authorities, and other stakeholders. local authorities and stakeholders at various levels (Mali and Madagascar) in order to better anticipate the impact of shocks on vulnerable members of communities and decide on appropriate local measures (community and health systems) to strengthen the nutritional resilience of populations and ensure continuity of care in the event of shocks.Mali and Madagascarongoing

ACF LAPOTRE LéonorprojectStart Anticipation project in Senegal: The project is in anticipation of food insecurity. This project aims to prevent the deterioration of food security and nutritional status, as well as the adoption of negative survival strategies, through cash transfers and targeted humanitarian nutrition prevention and promotion activities. Nutritional assistance aims to prevent the deterioration of the nutritional status of children under five and pregnant or lactating women (PLWHA), identified as the most vulnerable groups. To this end, the project provides for complementary and integrated activities: mass screening for acute malnutrition, as well as community awareness sessions on good WASH practices and feeding practices for mothers, infants, and young children (AM-ANJE).Senegalongoing

ACF LAPOTRE léonorprojectModelling Early Risk Indicators to Anticipate Malnutrition (MERIAM, GFFO-funded): initiative to strengthen nutrition EWS capabilities by forecasting acute malnutrition among children under 5 years, being piloted in four East African countries: Ethiopia, Kenya, South Sudan, Somalia.Ethiopia, Kenya, South Sudan, Somalia.ongoing

ACF LAPOTRE léonorprojectWAHAFA projects in Zimbabwe, Sierra Leone and Uganda: development of locally-led AAPs for drought (ZIM) and flood (SLE, UGA) settings. In ZIM, the project progressed to the fuel funding stage, providing cash and in-kind food assistance to support drought-affected communities and avoid common negative coping strategies, such as reduction in number of meals, decrease in portion sizes and limited food variety. Although the protocol are aiming to address all possible impact, they are not specifically nutrition oriented. Zimbabwe, Sierra Leone and Ugandaongoing

ACF LAPOTRE léonorprojectPEWS (EWS in western Sahel) Monitors pastoral resources in Western Sahel based on satellite images complemented by field data collection and combines two concepts: early warning and surveillance. Evaluation of biomass production during the rainy season, allowing the anticipation of the stock of pasture that will be available during the next dry season. Real-time monitoring of green and dry vegetation by remote sensing and a network of field agents, called pastoral sentinels, who provide information on the pastoral situation at the local scale several times a month.Western Sahelongoing

Acción contra el HambreMiguel A. Garcia-Ariasotheri) Compilation of historical databases of SMART surveys conducted in ACF-Esp missions and guidance on their analysis to identify variables that most affect malnutrition; ii)
Guidance on studies to identify macro variables at the country level and their evolution over time that impact child malnutrition; iii) Incidence in missions to collect historical nutritional monitoring databases in order to subsequently identify how they evolve in relation to the soudure/lean season, since it is in the previous months that AA initiatives with a nutritional focus are most justified.

Premiere Urgence InternationaleChantal Autotte BouchardAt PUI, AA is embedded (depending on the definition we want to give to it) in our Nutrition and Food Security responses (alone or in partnership), with operationalization tailored to each country context. Depending on the level of risk and available resources, we may implement one or several of the following five components:

Community surveillance & early warning: Networks track food security, prices, epidemic disease or change in global situation for healht, climate shocks, and population movements to trigger early action within at least the area of intervention.

Pre-positioning of supplies: Ahead of critical periods and depending of the countries and funding, but it's the case for Afghanistan by example, "fortified food" or alternative methods to prevent malnutrition using local custom like Tom Brown intiative by example or moulin, nutrition supplements (like most of us), and hygiene kits/dignity kit (but might not be the best AA) are strategically positioned.

Community awareness & SBCC: Local group, community club, relay, care group, PdHeart etc to strengthen nutrition and hygiene practices in alert phases butalso as routine activities.

Early nutrition responses: Mobile screening, referrals, community , and cash/voucher assistance could be deployed at first signs of deterioration.

Resilience strengthening: we have tiny example of it in Lebanon matching ANC/YICF and farmer family, by exemple to increase attendance to ANC and deliver in safe conditoion and ensure BF to reduce at risk child of malnutriton after delivery with YICF one to one conseling after birth.

Depending on the context, PUI may activate only one of these pillars in a country, or combine several up to all five, making AA a flexible but routine part of our humanitarian work - but then we need to be more precise on what we want to track

ACF Léonor LAPOTREprojectCommunity Led Approach for Adaptation and Resilience (CARE) Against the Health Impact of Climate Change.
The project will ensure collaboration with Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), Department of Disaster Management (DDM) and Community Based Health Care (CBHC) Department on integration of early actions with early warning systems. Early action measures will be identified, and community clinics and CBOs will be empowered to implement them to reduce health risks before and during disasters.
Also, the project will integrate anticipatory actions on health with existing early warning systems and sensitize the local disaster management committees to respond swiftly to climate-induced health risks. it will proactively develop community-led surveillance guidelines. This guideline will be used by local health authority to monitor and track disease outbreak. It will also help local community and health authority for planning and designing the anticipatory actions on health. This will further strengthen community awareness campaigns, which will be carried out to educate and empower communities to proactively mitigate health risk.
