Introduction to your SIP/ School Profile

Margaret Brent Middle School is a place where all students and faculty are valued for their commitment and contributions to the success of our school community. Margaret Brent Middle School currently has 1028 students enrolled for the 2019-2020 school year. Our school ethnic population is comprised of African American – 7%; White – 82%; Hispanic – 3.6%. 28% of our students qualify for Free and Reduced Meals and 9.7% of our students receive special education services. We are a Multi-Tiered Student Support School (utilizing PAWS and Restorative Practices) focusing on our student academic, discipline, and attendance data to ensure we are meeting the needs of all of our students. School staff will work diligently to continue to provide a focused instructional setting for all of our students. The students have an opportunity to participate in academic interventions and explore interest activities after school each day. We understand the importance of establishing mentoring supports in both formal and informal methods. We are continually building connections with our community to foster student growth academically and socially.

Margaret Brent Middle School has established a positive school culture and climate that promotes academic excellence. MBMS has shown growth across all grade levels in English/Language Arts. Staff collaboration and ongoing engagement in professional development continue to strength the instruciton.

Our school has made positive gains and growth across all grade levels in the area of English/Language Arts. In the area of math, both 6th and 8th grade made growth throughout the 2018-2019 school year. The culture and climate at Margaret Brent Middle School has increased

Areas of Continued Growth
for Upcoming Year

Margaret Brent Middle School will continue to work on improving overall daily attendance, decreasing the overall number of discipline incidents resulting in suspensions, and improving the 8th grade cohort of students in all academic areas. Margaret Brent Middle School will continue to work on the math instruction in 6th grade as we maintain the level of rigor and engagement in all academic areas.
