On this day, Virginia high school seniors spend a day in banks across the Commonwealth shadowing a banker in their daily duties. The purpose of this experience is for the students to learn about banking, financial services, and the vital role banks play in their communities. From their experience, the students are required to write an essay, and seven scholarships (six regional and one statewide) are awarded on the basis of the essays. While not a requirement, consideration will be given to students who are interested in a career in education. Academic achievement will be a selection variable however, financial need will be given equal weight. Students who have demonstrated a balanced high school career with a variety of interests and activities will be the focus of this scholarship award. The student’s motivation will be an important factor.
