Genetic deletion of a specific kinase or the receptor upstream promotes excessive peripheral myelination in a mouse model. We never determined 1. whether or not genetic ablation suppresses phenotypes from de-myelinating disease models or 2. if they would confer improved recovery to peripheral nerve following injury. If either or both possibilities are correct then the idea is to develop novel pathway inhibitors that can treat demyelinating disease and/or injury pharmacologically. Currently there are no therapeutics available for either.

I am working on developing an optogenetic neurodegenerative disease model--OptoNeurD. That is, a disease mechanism that can be activated with light and ported to any cell type or circuit in a mouse brain. It is fully controlled temporally and spatially and the degree of neurodegeneration can be controlled with light. This will allow those who study neurodegenerative disease to be able to selectively study cell damage to the cell type or circuit they are most interested in, and to tune it to their own purposes to better understand disease.

By knowing this level, an OB/GYN surgeon can more readily determine if a woman should continue with labor or move immediately to a C-section. Currently, there are no such tests on the market. The only method of measuring oxytocin is extrapolating data from the power of the contraction which oxytocin cause. This current method is invasive and dangerous.

My plan is to use this device for diagnosis of multiple diseases for hundreds of patients on a single run. For this technology very little amounts of sample are required. The result will be in the form of an image providing nanometer resolution information. This technology will bring diagnosis costs down, make it very quantitative and build a large structural database of antibody/antigen interactions for therapeutics.

Unfortunately, when hyperactivated, CAR T-cell activity can get out of control,
leading to severe side effects and in some cases death. We have a novel technology that allows us to regulate the activation of CAR T-cells.
Using this technology, we can activate T-cells enough to induce cancer cell killing, but prevents hyperactivation and the associated side effects.
Greatly increasing the safety of this promising new class on therapeutics. We are looking for team member that are passionate about the development of cancer therapeutics.
