DC FuturesWashington, DC ScholarshipsLaunched in the fall of 2021 and created through a $12 million investment by Mayor Bowser, provides a scholarship and support for DC residents seeking their first degree in a high-demand career field at three local universities – the University of the District of Columbia and the University of the District of Columbia Community College, Catholic University of America, and Trinity Washington University. In addition to providing residents with up to $8,000 in tuition support, the DC Futures Program also provides wrap-around services and supports, such as college coaching and access to emergency funds to help cover the cost of additional and unexpected expenses like food, housing, healthcare, and child care. This support comes with a stipend of up to $1,500 per year, in addition to the scholarship. Interested residents must re-apply to each program annually, and each program has a separate application. Alfred Street Baptist Church Annual Fall HBCU FestivalCollege Readiness ResourceThe festival is dedicated to connecting high school students and their families to HBCUs, and scholarship opportunities. Approximately 70 colleges and universities will be represented during the two-day event. Many will provide onsite admission decisions, conduct music auditions, and waive application fees. Additionally, seminars and exhibitor presentations will be held to help students navigate the college application process, seek financial aid opportunities and acclimate them to campus life. Since 2003, this one-of-a-kind college fair has connected more than 50,000 students and parents to academic institutions. In 2020, over $5.4M in scholarships were awarded to the 1,766 high school seniors who were in attendance; many of whom were first generation college students.
