We met in prenatal exercise class and were together many times when you and Aaron and Zach were very young. You were her world. We reconnected briefly about a year and a half ago and her eyes shined so bright as she talked about you. She will always hold a special place in my heart and we shared many laughs and tears together. You will be in my prayers. I dont know if you remember me but feel free to contact me at wwsue01@aol.com

July 11, 2018 at 7:21PMNancy SwartzQuilt Guild of Metro DetroitJoann, was one of the nicest people I met in the guild. She heard I needed a quilt for a little girl who had cancer, and the next meeting she had made one for the child. She took over Hospitality and did a remarkable job. I loved chatting with her as she was always so positive, and never had anything bad to say about anyone. I know you will miss her.

Dear Joann,
I hope you walked past Pioneer Furniture on the East Grand Boulevard
I hope you skipped down Chene Street
I hope you watched the parades down Campau,
and twirled in circles looking up at the sky
Did you ever see Hoffman Studio or the millinery shop next door?
Neisman's, Woolworth's, Lendzion's or Palmer Bakery...
If you did - any of these - we're connected - you and I.
Did you see the big Garland stove at Belle Isle or Korash - all lit up at night.
Did you go to Ferry Market - or how 'bout Max's Jewelry.
And Zaremeke's Dry Goods - Arlan's, maybe!
Did you jump rope or hop-scotch on the bumpy, stoney sidewalk slabs?
Did you hang on a weeping willow,
Or throw sticks up in the chestnut trees.
Did you play by the street lights, or just sit on the front porch -
Read books at Butzel Branch?
Maybe - Rialto, Home, Farnum, or Martha Washington -
Did you go to the show? I was there!
Were you at the Dom Polski, Hudson's Downtown -
Cherry Coke at Sanders? My hope is - Yes!
Did you take the bus there and back
Did you kiss the Cross in church -
Sing Serdeczna Matko, Dzisiaj w Betlejem, and Sto Lat
Did you cross yourself with Holy Water
and cry for our loved ones missed?
If you did, me too!!

Lulajże Jezuniu, Lullaby Sweet Joann
Pearl very precious
Sleep now, Your cries hush,
lulajże jezuniu

And - My Polish Soul Sister!
This one's for us.

May your heart be as patient as the earth,
Your love as warm as harvest gold.
May your days be full, as the city is full -
Your nights as joyful as dancers.
May your arms be as welcoming as home.
May your faith be as enduring as God's love,
Your spirit as valiant as your heritage.
May your hand be as sure as a friend -
Your dreams as hopeful as a child.
May your soul be as brave as your people -
And may you be blessed.
