| Timestamp | Name | Lighthearted Question: Based off the data Is Jayson Tatum Left or Right-Handed? (Hint: Right handed players prefer scoring from the left -side more and vice versa) | Which format helped you better identify shot locations? | Which format better explained shooting zones (paint, midrange, 3PT)? | Which format helped you better understand shot difficulty or distance? | If you preferred the 2D version, was it due to design issues or clarity? | Which program was more tailored towards beginners/accessible? | Why | Things you would like to see as I continue working on the project? | Overall, feedback, general comments, and concern? | Did you feel like you learned something new?

As a beginner it was way easier to understand the data even on the web since I could move around the field in 3D | Yes

(Im just chatting) | I liked it! I liked how interactive each shot was! Maybe a filter for made vs missed? | Yes

| 4/24/2025 11:17:39 | Aarav Kumar | aarav_kumar@brown.edu | RIght-Handed | Equal | VR | VR | VR | The 2D version seemed to have more complex basketball jargon and data that I couldn't really relate to as someone who doesn't know much about basketball. The VR version felt a lot clearer with the instructions and context given beforehand. | Ability to isolate a particular shot and see it / pause it / replay it etc, to really focus in on that shot. | Very immersive activity! I felt like i could really understand and relate to the data much better in VR, even as someone with no prior basketball knowledge or experience. | Yes
| 4/24/2025 11:18:10 | Sofia Vaca Narvaja Cordoba | sofia_vaca_narvaja@brown.edu | RIght-Handed | VR | 2D | VR | Equal | I think they both require some type of previous knowledge on basketball to be able to truly understand what's going on. Maybe the VR version has a higher learning curve because of the added complexity from novel interactions in these type of experiences for the average person, but it was easy to figure it out. | Maybe more labels on the ground of the animation to identify shooting zones. Also being able to pause/start the animation would be cool. | I was surprised by how much better I was able to understand the difficulty of the shots and even the overall distributions in the VR version comparing it to the 2D version. Great job :) | Yes
| 4/24/2025 11:18:33 | Connor Flick | connor_flick@brown.edu | RIght-Handed | 2D | 2D | 2D | Design issues | 2D | 2D version seemed to be clearer, operate more effectively than the AR version. | Really just need to overcome the bugs! It was genuinely difficult to view the visualization in AR due to technical issues, so making the visualization more functional and aesthetically appealing would be great adds. | Good work with this! It's interesting to compare the two visualizations since AR has the potential to convey the actual difficulty of the shots in a way that the 2D visualization can't. | Maybe
| 4/24/2025 11:19:22 | Colby Rees | colby_rees@brown.edu | RIght-Handed | Equal | 2D | VR | Design issues | VR | I think the VR experience would allow someone new to this data or new to basketball to not be overwhelmed. With each shot happening one at a time, I think a beginner would find this easier to follow. The VR version could also help gain the interest of more new people because it is a unique experience. | The data in the upper left corner didn't update for me. I think this would be helpful, especially with comparing players if you end up adding this. I also had issues with toggling between scenes so I understand how difficult that can be with loading and reloading data! Maybe adding some text about what specific game we are looking at could help give the user more information. | Very cool project! As someone who is not an avid basketball watcher, I found your VR experience to help me understand how much one player moves on a court during a game and also the versatility of their shooting skills. I liked that the shots happened one at a time compared to the 2D version because I felt like I was following the actual game and I was able to understand what shot is likely to happen after a different type of shot (if there is a pattern / habit of the player). | Yes
| 4/24/2025 11:20:13 | Mia Yu | yanmi_yu@brown.edu | Lefty | 2D | 2D | 2D | Clarity | Equal | I think for the beginner it is easier to see the VR visuals compared to the 2D data. Then for people w | I think the 3D is really hard to follow and debugging this would help! I also think if the default of the court is the actual size, and people can choose to stand at the position where shots start could be very useful( help people to understand the distance of the shots/how difficult it could be ) | I think this can have great potentials after you do the debugs. I do think the problem that the 3D visual keeps blanking in the VR is very disturbing | Yes
| 4/24/2025 11:20:29 | Feiyue Zhang | feiyue_zhang@brown.edu | RIght-Handed | VR | VR | VR | VR | I don't play or watch basketball. So to me the 2D data was a little confusing and overwhelming. But in the 3D visualization I can clearly identify the curve of the ball and the start and end of the movement. | I think it'd be cool if it can show the data at a specific point when we hover the cursor at the curve. | Yes
| 4/24/2025 11:23:33 | David Laidlaw | David_Laidlaw@brown.edu | RIght-Handed | 2D | 2D | VR | Clarity | 2D | The VR didn't work, so it was kind of animated 3D browser vs 2D browser. The 3D gave a little more sense of the distance, but it was much harder to see the overall picture using 3D. Having everything visible at once was much more effective for understanding. I was also surprised to see that most of the shots in the 3D version were mid-range. That seemed pretty rare in the 2D visualization. I was wondering if the game was unusual or if, perhaps, the shots weren't quite located accurately in the 3D visualization? | VR is what I'd like to see most. That will make a much more interesting final demo! | I think that it is pretty clear that 3D animated shots are going to be a fairly inefficient way to understand more than a handful of shots, so for visualizing a game or a season, it seems not very useful. I wonder if there is some more interesting aspect of visualization that would benefit more from VR | Maybe
