Thurs - Fri 10pm-6amThurs 8am-2pmThurs 8am-2pmWhat is helm?
Helm is a ranger/welfare supporter who feels they can support the welfaeries in their work. Helm will fluff faeries, meet at the teepee to handover shifts, hold space for a debrief when necessary, support in filling out incident reports and organise that paperwork in the instance of an incident that needs documentation, liaise with local authorities and medics as needed, and just help out wherever necessary. Helm maintains the overall logistics of welfare including radios, supplies and ongoing incident management. Helm should feel comfortable in a crisis, be a great listener, and trust their own judgement is sound and in the best interests of the event and community. Helm must be sober and available for the entirety of their shift, although napping in the teepee or at their home is fine as long as they're on radio and welfaeries know where to find them.

Fri 6am-2pm Thurs 2pm-8pm Thurs 2pm-8pm
What are the welfaeries? How do I know if I am Welfaerie 1 (experienced)?
Welfaeries are the amazing spaceholders and roaming helpers of the burn. They are there to respond to community needs during their shifts, whether those needs be mental or other health needs of burners, logistical needs for common areas on site, or to maintain the teepee/safe & sober space's safety, comfort & supplies. Welfaeries are the backbone of the event, our go-tos if anything goes a bit awry or could use a fluff, or someone needs help from a grounded person. These 2 are the anchors of this ship. If you feel you have sound judgement and communication, crisis, mental health first aid or medical experience, consider signing up for a Welfaerie 1 shift (or helm!). If you have previous experience tripsitting with Welfare Enough, PsyCare, or any other harm reduction body, you should also consider signing up for Welfaerie 1 shift (or helm!). Welfaires roam the site together, in pairs, and are supported by helm. Welfaeries must sober and available for the entirety of their shift, although napping in the teepee or at their home is fine as long as they're on radio and the other welfaeries know where to find them.
13
Fri 2-10pmThurs 8pm-2amThurs 8pm-2amCan I sleep during my shift?
Yes, when things are low key you can sleep at home or in the warm teepee, as long as you are on radio and your team knows where you are.
14
Fri-Sat 10pm-6amFri 2am-8amFri 2am-8am
Can I be in an altered state or coming down with no sleep or food or water in my system on my shift?
No. Your team will be experienced in the school of burny life and can tell when you're not going to be grounded enough to support them.
15
Sat 6am-2pm Fri 8am-2pmFri 8am-2pmWhat should I wear?
Welfaries like to wear light up rainbow wings so they are easily identifiable. Other than that you can wear whatever you want, as long as you are comfortable, mobile, and not freaking anyone out ;) Use your judgement
16
Sat 2-10pmFri 2pm-8pmFri 2pm-8pmHow will I be supported?
Helm can support welfaeries with whatever they need, including with debriefs & handovers to the next team. There is a shed next to the teepee where tea, water and biscuits are plentiful. The Beayurt just behind the teepee is also available to you to charge your radio, debrief from an incident when the teepee is being used, or even cook a meal if you'd like.
17
Sat- Sun 10pm-6amFri 8pm-2amFri 8pm-2amWhat if I have to miss a shift?
You and you alone are responsible for turning up ready to fulfil the commitment you fill into this spreadsheet. If you need to change a shift, you can switch with another welfaerie or rope in a friend. You can do this before the event in the spreadsheet or during the event by writing the change into a printed schedule that will be available in the teepee. If you no-show to a shift there is no punishment other than a bunch of shade from those who have to cover you and a dent in your personal integrity.
18
Sun 6am-2pm Sat 2am-8amSat 2am-8amWill there be a training?
Yes! Wednesday at 4:20pm we will hold a training for all welfaeries & helm, and anyone else in the community who wants to learn about community-led harm reduction.
