Find 3-5 apt adjectives to describe Martha's God. Explain the symbolism of God's metamorphoses as the story advancesWhy has God chosen a "minority" writer (female, black, working class) of fantasy to change humanity so it can survive "its greedy, murderous, wasteful adolescence" (193), do you think? Does God's choice make sense to you? Why/Why not?In your opinion, how satisfactory is Martha's solution to God's command? Would private, individual utopias help us become less domineering of one another?

childish, humanlike, down to earth/funny,IntimidatingAt first martha faced a physically large and intimidating god which she believed he would be like and as she came to terms with the job she had been given, " God " became more relatable " God " has chosen a " minority " writer to change humanity so it can survive because of all the inequality that was going on at the time, and god knew what kind of position martha was in. God's choice does make sense because he was trying to make the race equal whether its based on gender or color, everybody is equalMartha's solution is not satisfactory due to the fact that when individuals would sleep that's when they would experience " Utopia " but then when they would wake up life would be completely different and the individuals would constantly want to be asleep.

It would make sense because of who she is and where she came from, more importantly, she would be prone to being open minded given her background as an African American fictional/fantasy writer. No it would not help individuals become less domineering because people would resort to comparing their "personal utopia", thus creating a never ending cycle of disagreements. Not very satisfactory, but it had the least amount of cons as opposed to Martha's first idea of a solution which involved childbirth.

Also, in the past God's way of dealing with humanity is unorthodox. So, a human is a better choice to solve the problem humanity is facing. Martha understands the problems humanity is facing and could possibly find a solution to make life better. Furthermore, God admitted he felt strange not being able to understand his own creation. I believe, God is content with Martha's choice. of course, there is a lot of solutions that may work. God knows there will be consequences with any decision she decides. The solution will definitely make life a lot easier and less stressful. At first...but for these reasons, Martha's solution comes with a price. The first one is social interaction will become a thing of the past. Second is sleeping pills will be used daily. Third books will be read for info and ideas to dream about. Last and not least, real life will be nothing compared to dreams and humanity will not evolve or pursue the wonders of the universe.

black, blowed, beautifuli think that represent the equal of human, regardless our race, physical or social class, in the story God transformed himself as a white, black and finally as a woman, showing that he was always the same god in different bodiesyes, i think god choice her because even though she had grown in the bottom of society, she work hard and became famous writer, even though she was a minority, she was an intelligent person who can be something great by society im not sure, but in my opinion it can be satisfactory because in this way as a Martha focused people can achieve their needs in their sleep and spend a lot of their energy, so, in this way when they will be awake, they will be much more peaceful people.

Smart, philosophical, well rounded.he symbolizes something Martha wants to forget. He chooses her because she would have treated everyone equally and as if he had chosen someone else, they would use the power to further there own bad habits. I disagree with gods choosing because he could have chosen someone else because there could have been another person who does not follow there bad habits. I think they would not because everyone would be living in a dream world. They would know nothing of what consists of this real world or even know how to deal with the problems of the real world.

Wise, childish, bored, versatile. To understand the symbolism of God's metamorphoses in the story, one can apply the concept of collective unconscious developed by the father of psychoanalysis - Karl Gustav Jung. The first appearance is pretty typical, almost everyone who ever imagined a God -- had similar picture as writer's described "twice life sized", "white bearded", "inhumanly beautiful". As the story proceed, the God change his appearance to more human-like. One can assume that it's because of how relationship between protagonist and God becoming more friendly (She was terrified when she first time spoke with God, and closer to the end of the story -- the God changed his appearance to a black female, a sister). I don't know how to answer this question. Somewhat satisfactory and even prophetic in some ways. Prophetic because of technologies that today can create utopia for everyone who has access to the internet (VR glasses, online games, etc.). Satisfactory because it might decrease human's aggression towards each other and secondly, save natural resources and keep our planet healthy.
On the other side, I don't believe in private individual utopias, neither in the power of individual would help us to establish peace and love on the Earth. In order to do so, we have to collaborate and solve problems together, rather than hide in the corner of our private utopia. In other words collectivism>individualism.

Understanding, childish, promising, merciful,
God's Metamorphoses helps Martha to understand that God is human- like in nature. His physical appearance changes. He looks " normal "like a human. He is much smaller and not as appealing as she first saw him. Finally, God becomes human.
The Gods decision to pick a minority writer to change the world makes perfect sense to me. That is to say, writers can change the world and save humanity with the message that they carry through their writing. I believe that God's choice to pick female, black working class was the perfect choice. Martha was the perfect candidate to change the world. Her own life experience allow her to know and understand problems that society was facing.
I believe that Martha solution to God's command is pretty satisfactory. By allowing people to have vivid dreams by which they could satisfy their aggression, needs and desires Martha sacrifices her writing career but at the same time she changes people for better and makes difference in their lives.

God changes as the story progresses. God starts to become human-like in nature. His appearance changes. He becomes " normal" like a human. He is much smaller in seize and not as appealing as he used to be. Finally God becomes human.
I believe that the God's choice to pick a minority writer was a perfect choice. Writers can change the world and humanity with the message that they carry through their writing. Martha was a perfect candidate to change the world. She was female ,black, working, minority, who through her own life experience knew about solutions to the problems that society was facing.
To me, Martha's solution to the God's command is pretty satisfactory. She wants to change the world by allowing people to have dreams by which they could satisfy their regression, needs and desires. Martha sacrifices her writing career but at the same time she makes a change and difference in people lives.

changing , non typical, empowering
the shift is from standard anglo christian version white male bearded to black male shaven the anti image.
The writer has chosen God to reflect herself and the character as a way to suggest we all have our own God and that God acts in our favor. The under tone is that we can control what happens to some extent, at least in a utopian way.
Private utopias would result in peaceful society and mimics the ghetto society that many immigrants embrace to create an environment that is not alien but utopia for them having the same values and language and customs in a strange land. With every one able to operate on the same level the ability of one group to domineer another is reduced within the ghetto.
