| Overview: | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Strengths: | Notes: | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Efficient Pulling Footwork | He rarely wastes steps getting to where he needs to be. He accelerates properly based on his stance, and gets there quickly despite questionable burst and hip mobility.
| Hand Placement | His hand fighting and speed of precise placement are perhaps his most impressive skills at the position.
| Length | Has natural length and size for the position. His length shows up on tape, and can be devastating when he uses it to his advantage against pass rushers.
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Weaknesses: | Notes: | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Sinking into Anchor | His lack of hip flexibility does not often allow him to sit into an optimal anchor.
| Leverage | While his hand placement is solid, he is not often able to stand up edge rushers or take them out of any play entirely as many of the other top tackles are able to do.
| Gap Creation | Cannot rely solely on him in the run game in any scheme, but is particularly weak in zone. One of the weaker run blocking offensive tackles of anyone who will be drafted come April.

| Game: | Takeaways: | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Texas (10/07/2023) | Higher stance, but still gets out in space quickly with efficient footwork. Quick hands to lock inside on pass block. High hips when engaging leave him prone to ribs and chops. Swapped to left side just for outside run. Nose over toes too often. Mediocre in run game with questions about consistency pass blocking. Poor target selection on run block. Rushers disengage rather easily. Definitely needs work in the run game all around. Rushers can get under his shoulder pads with his height and lack of flexibility. Good hand fighting on head-on rush. Strong hands when utilized correctly. Efficient footwork to get in space or climb to the second level quickly. Lost another inside rep. Knows how to stand up edge rushers when he does get positioning. Needs to sit into anchor more. Arm over cleanly beats him on the edge. NFL 2nd string swing tackle. | 4th-5th round.
| Oklahoma State (11/04/2023) | Slower feet, but good hands. Good drive on run block. High stance. Delayed response on pass rush move. Efficient inside footwork. Beat with non-pass rush moves too quickly - such as effort plays by defensive linemen. Slower lateral movements. Whiffs on pull. Good inside leverage. Good mirroring reps. Not a gap creator. Beat with speed around the edge far too easily. Horrible run blocker all around this game. Beat with speed to power. Lacks fluidity on shuffle. Decent contact and drive on slant blocks. Cannot match mid-rep acceleration. Positive inside zone rep. Good second level contact that rep. Seems to mostly climb well. Cannot match speed rushes with very poor lateral movement skills. Lacks fluidity and overall athleticism for the position, but does have rather good balance. Great build, but difficult to see him as a full time NFL starter. | Has flashes, but lacks some fundamentals. Developmental or backup swing tackle. 5th-6th round grade.
| Iowa State (09/30/2023) | Braces power rush well when arms are locked. High hips. Lacks flexibility. No grip in the run game. Strong and athletic. Quicker feet laterally, mirroring speed well if he has appropriate grip. Palms defenders in the run game. Quite athletic. Lacks aggression when on the move. Tremendously quick and precise hands. Drops head on run block, leading to poor contact. Good pivot, but little vigor or sense of urgency when pulling. Not explosive off the line when run blocking. Beat very easily inside. His lack of leverage and strength on counters is not promising for his outlook at handling NFL edge rushers. Decent, but not elite balance. Needs to take initiative and get more aggressive on every down. | 5th round developmental right tackle.

| Final Scouting Report:
| Tyler Guyton is an athlete through and through. His foot speed and mirroring are superb, his footwork when pulling is efficient, and he has ideal size and length for the position. He has fast and effective hands, actively fighting off the advances of his opponents and prohibiting them from performing clean pass rush moves. With the athleticism and traits of an NFL star, it is no wonder many people see Guyton as a day one or day two pick. His grade here ultimately falls on day three because there are some major issues that will be exploited more heavily at the NFL level. He really does not sink into a sturdy anchor when getting power rushed. This is exacerbated by the fact that he rarely gets under the shoulder pads of his opponent for leverage or control. He has great movements and functional strength when he does, but better NFL pass rushers are not going to be as idle with their hands as the majority of collegiate rushers display on many of Guyton's high-end pass blocking reps. Additionally, he lacks drive and grip in the run game. He is serviceable at best in zone schemes, and may even be a liability at the next level. He is not NFL-ready and may take multiple seasons before he reaches his full potential, at which point he will be looking for a second contract. In a position where skill and consistency each and every rep are pivotal, Guyton may have a difficult time staying on the field early in his career.

| Post-Combine Update:
| His Senior Bowl was impressive enough to move his grade up. He is still a fourth round developmental prospect, but may be worth a shot sometime in the top 100 picks.
