ANT 302MerabetSpring2020Awritten exam with 2-3 prompts to choose fromElectiveI thought the class was kind of interesting. The workload was fair. The professor was passionate about the subject. Attendance was mandatory. I studied by making sure I understood the readings and paid attention when they were discussed in class and in discussion. Aside from attendance, there were 2 essays and 2 exams. I think there was supposed to be a final but COVID hit so he dropped it. I would recommend this course to anyone who has an interest in social sciences. When working on tests/essays, mainly focus on the main ideas the professor/TAs repeat in class and discussion

BIO 226LCambronneSpring2020N/Aquizzes that are multiple choiceDental School Pre-Req, Required for MajorThe class is very straightforward, workload is pretty minimal but datasets take a considerable amount of time but there are only three during the semester. They are graded pretty fairly, everything is straightforward you just have to pay attention to lectures and lab times. I really liked the professor, I thought he was very chill and cool, he offers a lot of extra credit opportunities and makes the course fun. Grades are determined by weekly quizzes, three dataset reports, self-guided skill evaluation that can be replaced by a pumpkin hunt activity throughout the semester, and extra credit. attendance is not mandatory since the lectures are recorded and posted for later viewing. I would recommend this course even though I didn't do labs in person, he does offer it for those who want to and it was very straightforward.Make sure to focus on what the TA wants for the datasets. ask questions.

BIO 311DHansenSpring2020AMajority of the test was multiple choice with a few free response questions at the endDental School Pre-Req, Required for MajorI felt that the class itself was very interesting especially if you are really interested in biology. The class did not have a huge workload with it; the only workload really was to read the textbook before class and to take notes during the class. We had the occasional homework assignment due at the end of the week but they were easy as long as you paid attention in lecture or read the textbook. Towards the end of class Dr. Hansen would display a code on the projector that you would have to input to be marked as present for class. The majority of the time she would forget to display the code but it is still a good idea to always go to lecture. Dr. Hansen is a very nice and considerate woman and she likes to make jokes and likes to keep the class fun while still staying on track. I personally studied by taking notes during lecture and taking notes while reading the textbook. Before the tests I would summarize my notes so that I knew for sure that I knew the information. Our grade was determined by three midterms, with the lowest score being replaced by the average of the 3, homework, in class participation, and the final. However, due to COVID-19 we were only able to take two midterms and then we transitioned to take two weekly quizzes at the end of each week. They were fairly short and there multiple attempts on each quiz and she dropped the final. There were a few extra credit assignments such as presentations or just watching videos and answering a few questions. Overall I would recommend this class because Dr. Hansen herself is a very nice woman who is very passionate about Biology and she tries to make the material enjoyable. I strongly recommend reading over the textbook and taking notes before lecture so that you know what Dr. Hansen is talking about in lecture.

BIO 320DickinsonFall2020N/AFree responseRequired for MajorProfessor Dickinson's Cell Biology class is absolutely amazing. He is super excited about cell biology so class is never boring. If you are looking to take an interesting upper division biology course, definitely consider cell biology because it shows that you are able to take on a difficult subject. This semester, we met on Zoom at regular class times where lecture is held. During lecture, he takes participation grades by using UT Instapoll (which is nothing to worry about). Other workload include reading a research paper every week and writing a summary analysis, four tests, and one final research paper. Tests are 15% each and the lowest test score is only accounted for 10% of your grade. For studying, I recommend rewatching lectures and writing down key concepts that he talks about because on tests, its open note. This class is not memorization based but more application based so there's a little bit of flexibility on tests.

BIO 325FischerSpring2020ANo exams, but weekly quizzes were multiple choiceDental School Pre-ReqThis class was one of the hardest classes I've taken yet because it is so detailed; workload was average with studying for quizzes and doing homework; Dr. Fischer is so passionate about genetics and answers questions very well. In office hours, she really takes the time to make sure you understand; Attendance was not mandatory, but answering or asking questions gives you extra credit; I read the textbook and answered the study guide questions that corresponded with each quiz; There was no exams or final due to COVID-19, however there originally was supposed to be a final; a majority of the grade was based off of the quizzes and a small percent was the homework; there were drops on the quizzes and homework; the quizzes were curved if the class average was below 75%; attending discussion was extra credit; This class takes a lot of work, but you do learn a lot of the details; I do recommend this course as its required for dental schoolAlways do the homework and quiz study guides because the quiz questions are very similar; go to office hours to get to know Dr. Fischer

BIO 325SungFall2020N/AMultiple choice and free response, on canvas but open note and open internet.Dental School Pre-Req, Required for MajorThe class was alright, but he had designed it so that the final would be before Thanksgiving which squishes topics and makes it so that you have to read ~1 chapter for each class (this was a TTH class). The homeworks were challenging, but the quizzes were fine and the group activities were fine. Attendance was mandatory for participation Instapoll grades. The workload was kind of high. The professor was kind of rude in the sense that he couldn't understand why we wouldn't understand a topic after he had explained it, but he was nice in pushing the final until after Thanksgiving because many students had asked him to. I studied by reworking hw and previous exams, the professor also held a review session where you could ask him questions. The group activities counted as extra credit. I would recommend this course, but not this professor in particular.Make sure you understand how to do everything on all of the homeworks and that you complete the previous exams before to understand the concepts and examples of what he could ask. His homework is really difficult so I recommend working with on it with friends, but make sure you understand what you're doing.

BIO 326MSaxenaSpring2020N/AQuizzes that are both multiple choice and free responseDental School Pre-Req, Required for MajorI believe youll definitely learn a lot in this course, but it is very time consuming, she expects you to spend a considerable amount of time outside of class to review the material, the professor asks questions that require you to think and they will be more application based rather than just memorizing the material. attendance is kinda mandatory because she does squarecap every class period that is included in our grade. I studied by writing everything for each unit down on a google doc including the powerpoints and everything she says in her recorded lectures. Grades are 90% from ten quizzes, and 5% from squarecap and 5% from discussion questions that are also submitted everyweek before each unit. two quizzes are dropped so only ten are graded and two squarecaps are dropped and two discussion questions are dropped. I would not really recommend this course but you will learn a lot and if you are a public health major you dont really have a choice but to take her.Take the course in a semester where you don't have to commit too much time to other classes. You dont really need to read the textbook, just focus on her lectures the most.

BIO 326RKingSummer2020ACombination of multiple choice and free responses, with free responses weighted heavierDental School Pre-ReqI actually really enjoyed this class, when i took it in the summer, I just had to watch Dr. King's lectures multiple times and fill out the learning objectives. Personally, I found it really helpful to study using the learning objectives. Attendance was mandatory but he didn't take attendance. There was 4 exams in total and he did not drop any. No final. There was a pre-quiz and a post-quiz but they're not hard at all. 10/10 would recommend, I would take it again, the course was really interesting tooDr. King is really nice so go to his office hours when you can. Also, be very specific on the free responses

BIO 326RKingSummer2020Bfree responseDental School Pre-ReqThe class was very interesting and well put together. The workload was a little more than the average because it was an accelerated course. Dr. King is amazing and he cares about his students (if you showed up to the daily lectures). Attendance was not mandatory but it helps for him to see your face. He expressed frustration when he prepared class just for less than half of the students to show up, so just attend class! I studied the slides mainly and used the textbook to fill in the gaps. The grade was made up of 4 exams (no drops), 7 assignments, and pre- and post-quizzes for every lecture. He only gives whole letter grades. He did not offer any extra credit, but he sent out fun research articles that I thought were pretty cool. I would highly recommend this course to anyone, but maybe to take in the fall/spring because the summer was too short for all the content covered.Attend lecture, turn on your camera, go to office hours, and don't be afraid to email him or the TA questions!

BIO 326RKingSpring2020AMultiple choice online, multiple choice and free response in personDental School Pre-Req, Required for MajorI really enjoyed this class. King is an amazing professor and so funny. He worked for the CDC before teaching so he has really interesting stories. Outside of the actual material, the workload is manageable; in person we had two short projects, which he ended up canceling when the class moved online. The exams were fairly difficult, but as long as you take notes and pay attention you have all of the information necessary to do well. The textbook is not required, I never read it. The exams are over a lot of information, and some of it comes from things he says and is not included in his lecture slides. Attendance in person and online was not mandatory, but when the class was in person, he did not record his lectures. So if you did not go, you missed anything extra he said which would realistically end up on the exams. Attendance in discussion sections is optional, but I found them to be helpful. I studied using flashcards/ quizlet. I made a card for basically everything he said and it worked really well. There were four exams and no final, but no exams are dropped. The two projects were short and not included online. There was no extra credit but the class is not on a plus/minus system so that helped. I would honestly recommend this course as King is such an interesting guy and I think he really makes his expectations clear. As long as you put in time, the class is really not that bad. I enjoyed it so much I actually changed my major to take more micro/cell bio oriented classes. When King throws out random statistics/ numbers/ facts, write them down!!! He will usually include a few questions on tests about things he randomly says.

BIO 346PhelpsFall2020Amultiple choiceRequired for MajorI really enjoyed this class. The subject matter is interesting and it is not too difficult to do well. The 4 tests are multiple choice, timed, and must be taken during the class period. The lectures do not require attendance; they are recorded and slides are posted. There is no final but none of the tests or quizzes can be dropped. Quizzes are almost weekly but are easy and usually allow multiple attempts. Weekly discussion attendance is mandatory. Each week, I watch the recorded lectures, complete the quiz, respond to the discussion prompt, and attend discussion. Overall very doable!I really liked this class and recommend this professor!

BIO 359KMcclellandSpring2020A-Multiple answer multiple choiceRequired for MajorI thought this class was alright. The information was easy and really interesting; however, the exams were really rough online. The format was multiple answer multiple choice, and our entire grade was 5 exams. No extra credit. The partial credit system she had was really weird, and I had to go to office hours to argue for points back after every single exam. She was pretty unreceptive to students when we tried go argue for the points though, and I think I had to put in more work than expected. Attendance was not mandatory, we just had to watch her narrated Powerpoints, which I just thoroughly reviewed. No exams are dropped. I'd recommend the class, but maybe with a different professor.Really think about each question and every single possibility. There were between 0 and 5 correct answers for each question (she changed the format from previous years), making the exams more tricky than truly difficult.
14
BIO 373GonzalezSpring2020AMultiple choice, multiple-multiple choice, and free responseRequired for MajorThe class was overall really easy with this professor. All you have to do is memorize the powerpoints and then study for the weekly quizzes that are given during discussion. Professor was super sweet and understanding. Attendance was mandatory up until covid. I studied by just reviewing the powerpoints and taking hand-written notes. There was some extra credit offered and it was super easy surveys. I definitely recommend this course especially with this prof!

BIO F446LBablerSummer2020ABoth the lecture and lab had all multiple choice tests. There were no free response.Dental School Pre-ReqThis class was AMAZING. I learned a lot and I loved the professor. I thought the workload was fair, but required more effort than other biology courses. Attendance was not mandatory. The only downside to the class was the lab. I think one just has to do it and get it over with simply because lab online is difficult. I re-watched the lectures and took notes and made flow charts. The was a huge extra bump at the end of the course which was really nice. No tests were dropped, but 3 (?) before class quizzes were dropped. I would recommend this course, even though the lab is not the best.Go to Dr. Babler's office hours he is the BEST. Take good notes and rewatch the lecture if you can.

C C 306MCurtisSpring2020Amultiple choiceElectiveThe class could be boring/tedious at times, but some of the history aspects were interesting. The workload was a fair amount. The professor was really nice and liked to be engaged with the students. Attendance was mandatory. I studied by making quizlets over the terms for each chapter. There were 7 quizzes with one drop, tophat questions each lecture, and homework.

C S 302JohnSpring2020Amultiple choiceOtherThis class was loads of fun. The workload is little to none. Dr. John is a wonderful professor! Attendance for lecture was not mandatory but his lectures will make you want to go to class. I looked over the slides, homework assignments, and asked questions during discussion to prepare for the exams. The grades were made up of 3 exams, 10 homework assignments (lowest was dropped), and a small percentage was discussion attendance. No extra credit but he did grant extra time for the assignments if you needed it. I would totally recommend this class to anyone, but especially to people who are minoring in business to satisfy the MIS credit.Don't be afraid to ask questions as soon as you don't understand something.

CH 204SoteloSpring2020ANo tests, only lab worksheets and writeupsDental School Pre-Req, Required for MajorThe grading in this course truly depends on your TA as they are the ones grading all the assignments. Assignments included prelab quizzes, lab reports, and in-lab performance. Attendance was not required for lecture, but the labs were mandatory with one allowed missed lab. When this class was in-person, Dr. Sotelo's lectures were a little difficult to understand, but I would still recommend attending lecture to get an overview of the lab for the week. The actual lab was not too bad, but the weekly lab reports were extremely time consuming. I would suggest extensively studying the lab manuals and looking over the lecture powerpoint before each lab as the prelab quizzes often had oddly specific questions. After the class went online mid-semester, we watched 20 minute lab videos and performed simulations in place of lab. Although the lab reports took a lot of time to complete, it is definitely possible to do well in this course if you keep up with the work.Going to TA office hours can be helpful in figuring out exactly what they are looking for in lab reports.

CH 220CFjetlandSpring2020ATyped lab reportsDental School Pre-Req, Required for MajorWhat did you think of the class?
I took this lab Spring 2020 so I had half of the course in person and the other half online. It was definitely more stressful in person as I had to memorize EVERy. SINGLE. MSDS sheet (look it up). The lab work was not bad, I think my TA did a really good job in teaching us and leading us in the right direction and she was very understanding if your results didn't go as planned. If it didn't go as planned, she usually told us to use someone else's data. Overall, I really enjoyed this lab but I think that was because I really enjoyed ochem! To each their own
How was the workload?
The workload in person consisted of studying the protocol and several MSDS sheets to ace the quiz before each lab time. In other words, there was a quiz every week during lab time, and a lab report was due each week (normal). However, when we transitioned to online, we were given the protocol and a video of the lab experiment. Then, we were given results and were told to write the lab report. When it was in-person, they got rid of weekly exams, yay I was super blessed!!
The professor?
We attended a lecture every week with Dr. Fjetland, and he did a good job in explaining the background material and purpose of the lab. However, that's all he did. You have more interaction with your TA, and the TA is the one who does the grading. In all honesty, your TA determines your experience in the lab.
Was attendance mandatory?
Yes, attendance was mandatory as you had to do the lab in person. BUT with online, you did the lab on your own time.
How did you study?
I just reviewed my notes a lot in the beginning or tried using flashcards for the MSDS sheets. When it transitioned online, I didn't study because there was nothing to really study.
How was your grade determined in the class - how many exams/quizzes/homeworks/projects, any of them dropped, extra credit?
A 94 was an A. No, this lab is not ranked. Your grade depended on a pre lab report (easy), lab notebook, and post lab report. There were no drops.
Would you recommend this course?
Yes!! I really liked this lab, and if you have the option to take it online, do it!!!
Attend your TAs office hours so you can know what they'd like for you to include in your lab report. Again, your TA basically determines your grade so I would try getting on their good side haha. Good luck!

CH 302AndersonSpring2020A-Multiple choice and free responseDental School Pre-Req, Required for MajorThe class is the same structure among three CH 302 teachers: Anderson, Sparks, and Biberdorf. I absolutely recommend taking Anderson. He’s super energetic and funny so you’ll be engaged during class. The class is a prerequisite for dental, so if you’ll be taking it, I would choose Anderson as he really took time to make sure we understood the material. Attendance with all three professors is mandatory; you’ll be answering questions during class and receive 4/5 attendance credit just for answering them (the other 1/5 is for getting the answer correct). I usually took 3-4 days to study for exams since chemistry is not that easy for me. My biggest advice for studying is Koofers (cannot stress that enough). Review the material and spend a bit of time over things you may not have understood the first time, then go straight into practice exams. There were daily homework assignments (usually three questions only) and assignments (~20 questions) due every other week I believe. Four exams, one dropped. A small amount of extra credit is given in the beginning and end of the semester, and you can also earn credit by taking notes during class and being the first person to offer to the TA so they can take a picture and upload it for those who wanted a copy of the notes. I would recommend this course. It’s not exactly easy, but setting aside a good amount of time to study and practice for exams will help you earn an A.

CH 320NHullSpring2020AMC and FRDental School Pre-ReqI 100% recommend taking Dr. Hull. I took her in the summer. Her TA's are the best and they set up a lot of help sessions. Her test are not that bad compared to other ochem tests I've taken. There were 4 tests, 1 drop, and your highest test scored counted twice! The HW was all only extra credit, not required. She made the material not that bad to learn and I enjoyed her personality.Take notes and rewatch the lectures. Also sometimes the homework is the exact same as the FR on the exams!

Very accomodating and listened to students amidst all the changes due to Covid. His lectures were not mandatory so you could always just watch at another time if your schedule did not fit for you the best. Open note exams helped ease a lot of stress. Grade was determined from just the exams and finals with homeworks being extra credit( up to 6 extra credit points added onto your grade). Lastly, his ECIS was also extra credit on the final or letter grade. His accent is a bit hard to understand but you can always rewatch lectures

CH 320NShabbirSpring2020A70 % free response and 30% multiple choiceDental School Pre-ReqWhat did you think of the class?
I think the material was challenging, but Shabbir did an excellent job in delivering and cementing the material into my brain. She prepared me for the DAT 1000%, I barely studied for the ochem section and scored a 26 eeekk all thanks to her! I would definitely take this class again!
How was the workload?
I think she gave the perfect workload, as there were only homeworks to be completed outside of class and instapoll questions to be answered in class.
The professor?
Shabbir is so helpful and sweet! I can tell that she genuinely wants to help students. For example, this was during COVID times and she increased the amount of time to take the final to like 8 hours. She also holds office hours, and the TA holds recitations twice a week where they go over problems and questions, which was EXTREMELY helpful.
Was attendance mandatory?
Attendance is strongly recommended but not mandatory (no attendance will be taken). However, I highly suggest attending class because it is easier to follow along, and you should always stay on top of the material! She also posts instapoll questions that open and close during class time, so I definitely recommend doing those since they are an extra point to the exam, if answered correctly.
How did you study?
I usually reviewed the previous class material before each class. I did the homework throughout the week, as much as I could. I also watched youtube videos over concepts that I didn't understand. If youtube didn't help me, then I resorted to the textbook. If I still didn't understand, I went to office hours to ask my question. I also tried my best to attend both recitations every week, as 1 recitation was dedicated to comprehending the material conceptually and the other recitation was dedicated to solving problems. There are also exam reviews that Shabbir holds. I really like the structure of this class!
How was your grade determined in the class - how many exams/quizzes/hw/projects, any of them dropped, any extra credit?
Exams were 100% exam grades. However, the homeworks and instapoll questions (answered correctly) were extra points to your exams. The max extra points usually added to 3 or 4. There are 3 exams and 1 can be dropped, and a cumulative final. A 93 or above is an A. I had the option to accept my grade or have the T-score option.
Would you recommend this course?
Yes! She definitely prepared me for the DAT, it was such a breeze! She gives you everything you need to succeed such as drop ins to get help and supplemental review sheets.

Try to stay on top of this class because it is a different course where everyone is in the same playing field. For example, others can have a great foundation in physics and be okay in college but there isn't ochem in highschool so it's a little different. Study hard, it will be worth it in the end! Good luck!!

There are no tests or other assignments. Overall, I definitely recommend this professor for your history credit!

MKT 320FAroianSpring2020A-Multiple choiceOtherTaking this class online and self-paced really wasn't the best choice, since I felt that it was super easy to neglect. There were quizzes to complete every few weeks and that was the only thing that kept me somewhat on track. I did not talk to a single TA or professor in this class once, just because with the business minor classes I tend to not need the additional help. The workload was very light. To study I just looked through quizlets. The grade was very heavy on the final exam, I think it was almost 70%. There was no extra credit. I don't necessarily recommend this class, if you don't need it, but it is definitely easy out of all the business minor classes.

NEU 365DrewSpring2020Ahalf multiple choice, half free responseRequired for MajorDr. Drew was an awesome professor and a really cool guy! I thought the exam we had was fairly difficult, and he tested over very specific information/hypothetical experiments. But when we switched to an online format, he got rid of our exams and only did quizzes/homeworks. I thought he was very fair and the workload wasn't too bad! There's a fair bit of scientific literature reading. I'd definitely recommend the class. No extra credit and no mandatory lectures, but an A was a 90. I think I just memorized everything on his lectures and really focused on experimental methods.Listen to Dr. Drew in class! Especially when he talks about different experiments.

NTR 112LFreeland-GravesSpring2020AActivities due each class, no tests, a quiz each class.Required for MajorThis class seemed kind of scattered, there was no exact lesson plan or textbook to use. The workload was definitely manageable. The professor was great and answered all of my questions. Attendance was mandatory ( this was an in person class before covid). I studied by reading and looking over the presentations before taking the quizzes. There were no drops or extra credit. This course was graded cumulatively. I would not recommend this course.Make sure to read before class and look over the powerpoint before class so that you are able to be more prepared for taking the quiz at the start of each class.

NTR 307 & 107LHayesFall2020AWeekly quizzes, final video projectRequired for MajorThis class was amazing. It was interesting and interactive. The workload wasn't too much to handle. The professor was very understanding and answered all questions asked. Attendance wasn't mandatory, but there were some in class assignments which you had to be in class to get credit for. I studied by taking notes on the modules and notes during lecture. Grade was determined by cumulative of quizzes, extra credit, in class assignments, and a final video project. No grades dropped, it was cumulative. I 100% recommend this course. The lab 107L was really fun! It was also cumulative with one video presentation, quizzes, and weekly assignments. I definitely recommend. You also got to keep any of the food you made. You don't need to buy the textbook if you have Hayes, the modules will have enough information for the quizzes and for the video project. You also don't need to buy the servsafe textbook, the modules will have enough information.

The professor answered all questions and was very understanding. Attendance was mandatory, this class was in person. I studied by reading the textbook according to the syllabus and going through the modules. There were multiple extra credit assignments which were about interesting topics related to nutrition. There was one midterm and one final and a few quizzes. I would recommend this class.Make sure to read before class, so you understand what is happening and do all of the extra credit available.

NTR 321MilonavichSpring2020N/Achapter questions in a quiz format mostly always free response.Required for MajorVery nice and easy class. Heavily focused on participation so attendance is mandatory, you have many discussions and acitivities during class. otherwise there is not too much courseload, you watch movies and write about them comparing them witht he textbook, you have chapter question quizzes from the textbook which are pretty straightforward, you have many discussion posts and other various participation activities that require participation. overall, the class is very easy and you can definitely do will if you participate. There are extrra credit opportunities but they are pretty time consuming and you probably will be fine without them. I don't think quizzes are dropped. The course is recommended because it is very straightforward and does not require a lot of time commitment, just be present when activities are taking place or communicate with your accountability groups, they might help you get some work done if you skipped class.material that is graded for quizzes does not really depend on lectures just chapter text.

PBH 338OnkstSpring2020N/Athere are concept check quizzes and unit assessments for each unit. multiple choice and free response.Required for MajorThe class is very straightforward and there are a lot of activities and opportunities to get points. She is very experienced and makes the course very easy as long as you participate and read the material. Workload is not too bad, there are unit assessments and concept check quizzes for each unit and many different projects. Attendance is not mandatory, some in class activities are mandatory though so you would have to show up for those days. I studied by reading the chapter texts, memorizing the content she posts on the modules that summarizes the unit and has practice questions, often times they will be word for word. Lots of extra credit opportunities and I would definitely recommend taking Onkst she is very straightforward and a very interesting person.Do the studymate activities! they will often appear word for word on quizzes and tests. Read the chapters in the textbook very carefully too, also word for word.

PHY 302KMarderSpring2020AMultiple ChoiceDental School Pre-Req, Required for MajorThe class overall was hard, but the best part was that you get 2 tries on every midterm! Professor Marder is a super understanding and sweet teacher, and he genuinely cares if his students are learning so he is very fair when it comes to exams. The workload only seemed heavy due to the weekly quest we had to submit. Attendance was mandatory since clicker questions were a part of our grade, but that stopped with covid. I studied by going through each homework thoroughly before the exam to make sure I knew each problem because the homework and exam questions were very similar. The grading scale changed due to covid, but the biggest portion of the grade comes from the midterms. There was not any extra credit, however, the multiple trials for the exams made up for that. I definitely recommend this class with Marder, if you need to take it for your major.

PHY 302K & 102MYaoSummer2020B-All multiple choice, using proctorio but it was open note in summer session 1.Dental School Pre-Req, Required for MajorIt is a tough subject to learn so you have to be dedicated to understanding how it works. The workload felt a little bit much, but I was taking a semester class in 5 weeks so it was understandable. The professor was amazing, he answered all questions asked and even set up meetings with students who were struggling to see how to help them. Attendance wasn't mandatory but there was reading quizzes due before each class. I studied by reviewing homework problems, getting help from the Sanger Learning Center and watching videos from the Organic Chemistry Tutor, and Khan Academy. One test was dropped or the final was optional. I think the lowest homework was dropped and 4 of the lowest reading quiz grades were dropped. He offered 3% extra credit for attending discussions and participating. Discussions were helpful in figuring out homework problems. I 100% recommend this class if the professor is Yao.Try to understand how the concept works, rather than the individual problem so that you can apply what you learned to other problems. Make sure to take Yao, he is the best.

PHY 302L & 102NLabunSummer2020AOn quest, mostly free response with a few multiple choice. No proctorio.Dental School Pre-ReqThe class was hard because physics 2 is hard. The workload seemed like a lot with a test every friday, but it made sense because the entire course was 5 weeks. The professor was terrible, he never lectured, only solved problems in class and did not help at all. He cannot teach, I don't recommend this professor for anything. He is more of a theorist. Attendance wasn't mandatory, i studied by going over the hw and examples from class. Your grade was either your average, or your grade on the final, whichever was higher. Two homeworks were dropped. There were two extra credit questions but there were 86 problems to complete to get that extra credit. I would recommend this course but not this professor.Don't take professor Lance Labun, he cannot teach. Khan academy really helped when I got confused on topics.

We had Quest homeworks and our exams were proctored via Quest as well. Class was mandatory and we were put into breakout rooms every lecture to answer Instapoll questions with a group. I felt like that really helped us learn the material as we went along. Exams were a bit easier than the homeworks in my opinion, but there were only like 11 questions. Grades were based off exams, Instapolls, and homework, and a 90 was an A. There was no extra credit, but I feel like the class was pretty fair. Redo the homeworks! A lot of questions on the exams were almost verbatim from Quest. Also pay attention to the Instapolls!

PSY 301DomjanSpring2020Amultiple choiceRequired for MajorWhat did you think of the class?
I LOVED this class. I enjoyed coming to this class because Domjan is an amazing lecturer, she is able to use examples that relate to college students, which makes the class really intriguing.
How was the workload?
There was no homework, the workload was very minimal. All there was to do for this class in terms of homework was to review slides.
The professor?
Domjan is AMAZING. She creates such a comfortable and inviting environment for students, she always suggests stopping by her office hours just to chat! Love her. She is also very understanding, if there is a misunderstanding with one of the questions, she is always willing to make a compromise and handle things fairly. BEST LECTURER EVER!
Was attendance mandatory?
No, attendance was not mandatory but highly encouraged. She makes the class so fun and makes the material so easy to comprehend. Basically, going to class was how I studied for exams, she does a really good job in delivering and cementing.
How did you study?
I honestly didn't spend too much time on this class. I just really tried my best to listen and understand her during class, which really helped me out when it came time to study for the exam. I studied by going through all of her notes about 2 or 3 days before the exam and I felt pretty good about the material. If you struggle, I recommend going to office hours!
How was your grade determined in the class - how many exams/quizzes/homeworks/projects, any of them dropped, extra credit?
There were 4 exams and you could drop one of the first 3 exams. In other words, the 4th exam will be counted towards your final grade. She does this so students don't slack off during the end of the semester (which is really smart haha). A 93 was an A. Your final grade is determined by the average of the 3 exams. There is also a experiment requirement where you have to complete 5 hours in random research studies that you sign up for (really easy) or you could opt out out to do a research paper instead (wouldn't recommend)
Would you recommend this course?
Yes!! I loved this class, I really gained a lot out of it that was applicable to obstacles and situations I was dealing with at the time.
If I could go back, I wish I got to know more about Domjan and attended her office hours more often. Try to not take her for granted haha i miss her!

PSY 352BeeversSpring2020AMultiple choiceOtherI thought this class was really interesting, and the workload was pretty low! It was conducted fully online, and Dr. Beevers was super chill. Exams weren't hard at all as long as you read the textbook and paid close attention in lectures. The lectures could be a bit dry at times, but the information was extremely fascinating. I'd highly recommend to anyone interested in abnormal psychology, you learn a lot about different disorders, treatments, and experiments. Attendance was mandatory because they had Instapolls for grades. I believe they dropped 1 exam and had extra credit, but a 90 was an A!Read the textbook! There were at least 3-5 questions on each exam specifically from the readings.
44
PSY 364BradburySpring2020Amultiple choiceElectiveI thought the class was pretty easy, and she seems like a very nice person. The class was a completely asynchronous online course with 4 midterms throughout the semester. The exams were 50 questions in 40 minutes, but the questions were short so it wasn't too bad. The workload was really light, and you only had to watch the lecture videos and read a few articles for each unit. If you just review the lecture videos to study for each exam, you'll do fine. The readings can get really long, but I would at least skim them because there were always a few exam questions from the readings. I would recommend this course if you're looking for an easy online elective!

R S 310LandauSpring2020AFree responseElectiveI thought the class was super chill and lenient. It's a good class for an easy A or GPA boost. It was a light workload; the class only really consisted of lectures, three exams, three super low-stake quizzes (only 5% total for the three), and a final paper. Dr. Landau is a really awesome professor to have. He's all about mental health and reducing student stress so he was understanding and tried his best to reduce the amount of work given. The class was also really interesting because it makes you knowledgeable of your peers' religions. Attendance was mandatory, and it's a pretty significant portion of the overall grade (20%) but it's an easy way to raise your grade. However, if you have to miss class, you can just email the TA to be excused (you don't need to say the reason why) and receive credit for the day. There is a textbook, but it's not needed as everything is covered in his lectures. The three exams are essay-based. During the in-person session, Dr. Landau gave us the option to take the paper-based version in class or to take it online through Proctorio from home. The exams were not hard nor were they cumulative; they were similar to the material from the low-stakes quizzes. All of the exam information could be found in his lecture material, so a quick review would also be beneficial. I mostly studied for exams by looking over the quizzes and my class notes. He also hosts exam reviews if you want to attend or ask questions. The "final" is a report consisting of 6-8 pages double-spaced, but you can begin working on this as early as midway in the semester. There are multiple extra credit options throughout the semester, which will be added to one exam grade; the maximum to be added is 15% to an exam. I would definitely recommend this course because again, it's an interesting topic, the professor is awesome, and it's a pretty light workload.

SDS 302RarickSpring2020AMultiple choice and free responseDental School Pre-Req, Required for MajorThis course was in person at the time. I actually really enjoyed this class, even though it’s a statistics class. Jason made it entertaining! The workload was not bad, but you do have to manage your time wisely. Each week, you had a homework assignment due on Friday at 6pm and a pre-lab assignment due at 11:59pm (the day before your lab meeting). For your lab meeting, you had an assignment to complete during the lab time. At the end of the semester, you completed a final project. Jason is the sweetest! He always had pictures of his dog, Lola, on the PowerPoints. Attendance wasn’t mandatory, but in order to get your Squarecap points, you had to be there. When I took this class, it was when the pandemic happened, so we only had the first test count. The last two tests were canceled, and he changed the syllabus. However, for the first test, I studied the day before (probably shouldn’t have done that) and did fine. Your grade was based off a point system. Exams were 36%; labs were 28%; the final project was 18%; homework was 16%; and attendance was 2%. These percentages are from the syllabus before Covid happened. Jason did offer bonus points for completing random assignments during the semester. I remember completing a survey at the very beginning of the semester, and he used our responses as data for the class! I highly recommend taking this class, and try to take it with Jason if you can!

TD 301Gan and Pena TorresSpring2020Amultiple choiceElective, VAPAThis class gives you a CD flag and works for a VAPA credit. The workload was very easy, and as long as you had good notes you were able to easily finish the test. The professors are grad students so sometimes they are bad at answering emails but it was okay. There are readings that you have to read outside of class but as long as you generally know them you are okay. Pop up questions come up during lecture for attendance. I would heavily recommend taking this course. If you have any background in theatre I would imagine this class would be even easier- it goes over a lot of basics.

BIO 226LCambronneSpring2021AQuizzes are all multiple choice. No midterm or final.Dental School Pre-Req, Required for MajorCourse was hybrid, with only 3 lab portions in person that encompasses the entire material that we needed to know in terms of hands-on experiments.
I thought the class was rigorous but understandable and straight-forward.
The workload is light compared to other classes because the lab manuals combine multiple labs, making it self paced.
The professor was very understanding and helpful, really wanted students to succeed...Even opened a quiz for me after I missed it.
Attendance was not mandatory, recordings were all posted.
I studied by watching the lecture part of the lab multiple times and writing down notes on all emphasized points.
No required materials for the class. No textbook was used.
Grades were based off of the weekly quizzes and the 3 lab reports. Quizzes were based on the lecture portion and his teachings were mirrored in the questions. There was multiple chances for extra credit, one that even adds like 10 points to your overall ending grade.
The lab reports are time consuming, so I would recommend doing the lab reports as you are going weekly and not leaving it till the end.
Go to TA's office hours for clear guidance on the lab reports.

I was not a bog fan of the class and professor. The class was mostly self taught for me because his lectures were not as organized as I hoped they would be and his accent was pretty strong so it was difficult to understand. Attendance was mandatory and taken through squarecap. I studied by reading the textbook then watching a review video of his lecture for each chapter. Taking notes was important! There were a total of 3 exams, online homework, squarecap, and one project. I loved the subject but not a fan of the professor.Don't procrastinate!! the exams are given over large chunks and it is easy to fall behind.

There was a textbook required that helped through the course. The extra credit was given through the lecture instapolls.Have fun learning the material!! There was a textbook for this course as well as an online platform that needed to be purchased. The class had exams, homework assignments, and discussion worksheets. I thought the class was not difficult if you put in the time. The lab reports were long and took a lot of time. It is mostly up to you TA on grading, as some grade easier than others. Attendance was mandatory especially to receive data for lab reports. Everything was done on a platform called lab flow so it was very organized. Your grade is determined by warm up quizzes, lab reports, attendance, and pre lab quizzes. There was no extra credit but if your grade is close enough, your TA may bump it up.Put in the work and it will be worth it! The class is not hard just time consuming for a 2 hour credit course.

BIO 326MSaxenaSpring2021AMultiple Quizzes and Square cap questionsRequired for MajorHeads up: long review because I know this class is troubling and have some words of encouragement. This course was online. At first I was very intimidated by the quizzes as they were very detailed and I did not know the best way to approach this class in terms of preparation. The teacher, Dr. Saxena, does not have a good reputation. She is known for not answering questions and being very demeaning. Going to her office hours every week I got to know her teaching style and her as a teacher. When she asked me about how I viewed the course I was honest with her and gave the perspectives of my other friends in the class. She explained to me that her goal was to not make friends, but to challenge people and teach others to become better students. I respected that because when I asked her questions she was blunt with me and pushed me to become better. Workload was dependent on how much you thought you needed to review the lectures. Attendance was mandatory because squarecap was administered during class and was a portion of the overall grade. I studied for this class by rewatching the lectures about three times for each unit quiz. I attended class, the next day I rewatched the lecture and took notes on a google doc and then closer to the quiz date I rewatched again and made not of anything I missed. I then reviewed my notes and drafted questions I thought she would ask for each unit. When I tell you the questions were from what she said directly, I mean it. She had info on her slides, but the questions could not be answered by them but only remembering what she had said was the importance of each slide (info was not stated anywhere). There was a textbook, but like I said it was her lectures that were the determinant for the assessments. Grades were 90% quizzes and 10% squarecap. People did not do well on the quizzes so she gave lots of extra credit, but even then the averages were still low, lol. Taking my first quiz, I did not do well and shed a few tears, but in the end ended up all right. Overall, being intimidated is normal accept it and let it fuel your way to trying to consume every detail and speaking up in office hours. You got this!!Don't give up! Trust the process!

CH220CFjetlandSpring2021APre-lab: videos and then about 4 questions assessment
During lab: taking notes and performing experiments in hopes of high percent yield
After-lab: lab reports with similar format
Dental School Pre-ReqThis course was hybrid. I thought the class was doable, but was concerned about the grading and felt out of control because my grade seemed to be dependent on the TA who was taking weeks to show grades for the lab reports. The workload was similar to general chemistry lab as it had pre-lab work and post-lab reports which started to take less time over the course of the semester because the format was similar. Fjetland was a nice guy, but spring semester like for all other classes was difficult because the winter storm, dealing with COVID while still trying to get hands on experience and so I bet he was getting so many emails which resulted in him being short with some people. Since it was hybrid, attendance was acquired about every other week so that data could be collected. There was alternative data online that could be used in place. There were several things that stood out to me about this class. One was that he had a website which worked in partner with Canvas and so it was important to keep track of the information on both and so it took some time to play detective to search for the necessary components for the lab. Another thing was the power of the TA. I had friends in the class with other TAs and they were all different in terms of how soon they passed out the grades and how difficult their grading was. That said, (also note there was no academic dishonesty or loss of integrity in this statement) it was frustrating because when working with a friend, she would get a better grade than me but we both had the same thought process for approaching methods in the lab. In addition, the majority of the TAs from what I observed took forever to grade and so I ended up turning in about 4 lab reports without even knowing if what I was doing was wrong or if I needed to change anything. I was overwhelmed and just angry at the whole system because I really felt out of control in terms of my grade. I ended up sending a passive aggressive email to my TA and things started to turn around. He was giving back grades and I was doing better. I know what I have been saying is not positive, but it is good to hear in terms of knowing that if things don't go well in the beginning it is normal and it is possible to do well in the end. This class taught me patience, but also was fun being able to go back to campus and mix some things together in a separatory funnel. You got this!!

BIO311CThijsFall2020AMultiple choiceDental School Pre-Req, Required for MajorThis introductory biology class was online and a great way to start off college! The workload was not extreme and prepared me well for the weekly quizzes. We did not have exams as the weekly quizzes made up the assessment portion of our final grade. Attendance was mandatory for the class to participate in Instapolls however, there was an asynchronous option available as well. I studied for this course by doing the homework. The required material for the course was simply the textbook package on which the homework was assigned through. There were extra credit surveys and a few drops for quizzes. I would definitely recommend this course as there is a greater emphasis by the professor on students actually learning the material as opposed to constantly stressing about grades.Make sure to attend the discussion sessions even though they are optional as they provide you with great tips for the weekly quizzes.

Workload is really light and class was straightforward/not difficult, but if you do not enjoy taking MC exams then I do not recommend. The workload is more on the heavy side but if you have an interest in mythology the material is really fun to learn. We have modules from the textbook via tophat where you answer "select all" questions. We also have tophat questions during lecture that count as extra credit towards your final average. You can get up to 10 full grade points (a whole letter grade) towards your average. All materials for this class through the subscription! I studied by reading over the textbook modules a couple of times and then filling out the exam review sheet Dr. Curtis provides. Overall he is a really nice professor who cares deeply about the subject matter and his students - I highly recommend this course!Call him "Dr. Curtis" not anything else! PHY 302KMarkertFall2020AMultiple ChoiceDental School Pre-ReqI took this course during COVID when it was all online. The course load was significantly more light than I was expecting and the professor was insanely sweet and accommodating. Attendance was mandatory but it is understandable since it is a required science course and physics is a dense subject. For this class I really focused on the homeworks given and wrote down the steps and applied those steps to other practice problems. If I was able to solve those problems then that would indicate I understand the material and what the questions were trying asking me. The only required materials are on quest, which should be $25 for one class. The grade consisted of exams, homework, attendance through UT Instapoll questions, and a final exam. I would highly recommend this course to everyone because Dr. Market genuinely cared for her students and was very passionate about her students liking and understanding the material. She is a very sweet professor but also please make sure to put in the work because it will pay off! She also has an accent, which can be difficult to understand sometimes but overall it's not an issue!

NTR 312LashingerSpring2021AMultiple choiceRequired for MajorThis course was taken online. I really enjoyed the class and the professor is great too. This was the first semester Dr. Lashinger taught NTR 312 that was not the honors class. Because she was used to teaching honors, I think this class was tougher than a NTR 312 class usually is. Attendance is not mandatory, but there was an online quiz during the first 7 minutes of some classes. The grade is determined by the mid-term exam, the final exam, 12 quizzes, 5 discussion boards, and a dietary analysis project. No assignments or exams were dropped and no extra credit is offered. I studied for the exams by reviewing my notes from class and the powerpoints. A textbook was required and covered what was talked about in lecture. I recommend this course with Dr. Lashinger if you are up for a challenge.Go to office hours if you have questions about anything! Dr. Lashinger is super approachable and interesting.

BIO f446LBablerSummer (First Session)2021AMultiple choiceDental School Pre-ReqI took this course online over the summer. I really enjoyed this class and found the subject material very interesting. Dr. Babler is a great professor and very receptive to questions. The workload wasn’t bad in terms of assignments, but there was a large amount of daily studying, especially as a summer class. In terms of assignments, we had a small quiz due every morning over the previous day’s lecture material and lab quizzes. The class is divided into lecture and lab. The lab is very time-consuming and takes a lot of effort to learn the material. The grade consists of 5 lecture exams (60%), 2 lab exams (25%), the daily lecture quizzes (5%), lab quizzes (5%), and lab participation (5%). Three lowest daily lecture quizzes were dropped as well as the lowest lab quiz grade. A total of 3% extra credit was available based on how well you perform on an optional cumulative final exam and if you had the anatomy lab application and account set up in time for the first lab. Attendance for lecture was not mandatory, but for lab it was. I studied for lecture exams by going over my detailed notes and making sure I understood everything Dr. Babler spoke about. For lab exams, I went over the anatomy lab application and went over all the learning objectives. I recommend this course!Don’t fall behind or it will be difficult to catch up.

PBH 334GonzalezSpring2021AMultiple choice and free responseRequired for MajorThis class was taken online and was a great course. The workload was relatively heavy, but Dr. González made lectures engaging. Attendance was not mandatory. The grade was largely determined by concept check quizzes, exams, a book writing assignment, an individual project, and a group project. There was no extra credit provided but there was a comprehensive final exam offered that could replace one exam grade. I studied for exams by going through the textbook and powerpoints. I recommend this course!Get started on projects early because they take a lot of time to do well. There are a lot of components to this class, so make sure to keep track of due dates and find times to work with your group on your project.

PHY 302LDitmireSpring2021AMultiple choiceDental School Pre-ReqI took this course online and the material was pretty difficult. The workload wasn’t too bad with weekly homework assignments on UT Quest. The professor wanted to help students learn but would sometimes be confusing. Attendance was not mandatory, but there were daily in-class instapolls that give you extra credit if you participate. The grade was determined by 14 homework assignments, 3 mid-term exams, and a final exam. Two of the lowest homework scores were dropped and the lowest of the mid-term exams was dropped. The final grade was determined by Dr. Ditmire based on the overall class performance. To prepare for exams I redid the homeworks and made sure to understand how to use all the equations pertaining to that exam’s material. I recommend this course if you are up for a challenge.I suggest making a formula sheet with all the important physics equations. It made it easier to review and practice using them using the homework questions.

BIO 370TheriotSummer2021Amultiple-multiple choice (select all that applies)Required for MajorI took this course online. Class was difficult and tests were difficult, but they were all open-resources, including working with the whole class and the whole weekend to work on them. The professor is very knowledgeable and approachable. Dr. Theriot answers every question that you may have over email! I studied by going to lecture and working with a group of friends. There is a required textbook but there is a free PDF online. Grades are determined by quizzes and exams, but mainly exams. You could drop a few quizzes, and there are no extra credit. There are about 26 quizzes (one quiz every day of the summer session that I took). There were about 4 or 5 exams with one drop. I do recommend this course because the professor is amazing! It is not an easy course though. Very challenging with tricky test questions.Pick a good group to work with!

BIO365SChengSpring2021Amultiple-choice, free responseDental School Pre-Req, Required for MajorI took this course online. The class is pretty tricky, but the exams were all doable with a lot of studying. The attendance is not mandatory. The workload is managable, and the professor is pretty average, but the TA made a huge difference for me. TA Kai was amazing, and I always attended his office hours. I studied by going to the TA's office hours and reviewing the lecture powerpoints. There was a textbook required for the class as well. The grade is determined in the class by 5 exams (one drop) that are 75% of your grade, 10% quizzes that are open notes about 10 quizzes (one drop), and 10% homework (4 homeworks, no drops). there is no extra credit or curve. The class had very interesting information, but it was difficult. The exams were tricky, but doable to make an A with a lot of studying and going to office hours!go to office hours!!!

BIO 326RKingSpring2021Amultiple choice, free response, true/falseDental School Pre-Req, Required for MajorI took this course online. The class is very managable, and definitely one of the easier upper division bio classes. Attendance is not mandatory at the time and lectures are asynchronous. The workload is also manageable with 4 exams, pre and post quizzes for completion before and after every class, and assignments that are based on pretty much completion as well, no drops. The exams are solely lecture based, and they are easy if you take good notes. There are no required materials for the class. The professor is very funny and approachable, and his exams are fair though you do have to be specific in your short answers. I studied by going over my lecture notes repeatedly. I do recommend this course for sure!take very detailed notes and write down everything Dr. King says in lecture!

CH 220CFjetlandSpring2021Ano testsDental School Pre-ReqI took ochem lab during COVID-19 period, so it may be different from others' experience. The grade you get probably is determined by the TA that you have. The course was hybrid when I took it, and your grade was ONLY determined by lab reports, but I know they may have quizzes each lab now along with the lab reports. The workload is a lot if you have other classes that are time consuming as well - lab reports took me a long time because my TA wanted a lot of details. Attendance is mandatory of course to do the lab reports. I do not recommend this course during non covid-19 periods, but it was nice to not have the lab quizzes when I took it. Materials required are lab notebook and a combination lock. Going to office hours and emailing my TA asking for what they wanted in the lab report is super helpful to getting an A.go to office hours and emailing them for clarification on any questions!

BIO 326RKingSpring2021A-Gradescope- combination of T/F, mc, and short answerDental School Pre-ReqThe course was online and honestly a very interesting class. The only workload for the class involved studying for exams. He only assigned like 3 or 4 written assignments which took a maximum of 30 minutes to complete. The professor is super nice and definitely is the talker, he is very good at going over topics in details so it is good to ask questions when you get the chance. Attendance was not mandatory since he recorded all the lectures and had them accessible on canvas. The way I studied for this class was to go through his lectures and write down what he says because a lot of his exams are based on what he says and less on the actual content of the lecture. He is very specific about getting everything precisely. The grade was mainly exams with like 20% counting towards assignments and "participation." There was no extra credit in the class. I think this is a really good course to take if you want to learn more about bacteria and viruses. I found it very interesting, I just feel like if you don't particularly that area of interest you won't really enjoy the class.Don't procrastinate, the tests are not that bad but cramming isn't very ideal for remembering information.

BIO 326RKingSummer2021Aabout 30% multiple choice and 70% free responseDental School Pre-ReqI absolutely loved King! He's an amazing lecturer and makes the class so much fun and interesting. His class was pretty easy and very manageable, and he offered a handful of weekly writing assignments along with his midterms, which were the bulk of the grade. His grading system was very lax, and an A was only 90%. There were no required materials for this class, and he did not offer any extra credit or assignment drops the semester that I took it. I would 100% recommend taking micro with King. The free-response makes up most of your exam grade, and unfortunately, the TAs are really strict about the grading rubric. Sometimes they would take off points for the most minor things. Go to office hours and study his lecture slides, and you'll be good to go!

BIO 311DThijsSpring2021AThere were no exams; only weekly quizzes that consisted of 10 multiple choice questions (which were tricky because of the SATA) in a timed, 15 minute quiz. The final was a 2 hour exam with solely multiple choice and SATA questions.Dental School Pre-Req, Required for MajorThijs was not the most interesting professor, but she was really nice and the workload was relatively light. Attendance was not mandatory, and she didn't offer any extra credit opportunities or drops the semester that I took her class. Mastering Biology was the only required textbook material, and I was able to study for quizzes by attending lectures and reading the textbook. Overall, I would consider this class to be average, but yes, I would generally recommend it.The one thing about this course was that there were a TON of weekly assignments, and you really have to be on top of the calendar. Another thing is that discussion section assignments were insanely rigorous and complex, and the TAs rarely awarded perfect scores for them. Go to office hours with the TAs and form a good discussion group in order to succeed.

BIO 311CSathasivanFall2020AIt was a mix of multiple choice and free response. His free response questions were insanely challenging and oftentimes his exam grade averages were failing.Dental School Pre-Req, Required for MajorThis class and professor was recommended to me, but it was insanely difficult. Sata flipped his entire teaching method due to COVID (this was online) and took his class to a new level. Attendance was mandatory since he had accuracy-based questions on Squarecap during each lecture, and his weekly online homework assignments were also accuracy-based with a one-time submission. Exams were terrible (and unfair) and were proctored using the proctorio software on Friday nights. Weekly discussion sections were manageable, and your biggest resource in this class was going to be the mandatory textbook that he authored. There was also one semester group project that appeared to assign arbitrary grades all around.Be prepared to study HARD. This class was by far my least favorite of my freshman fall semester, and I really wish I had chosen a different professor (despite his amazing reviews PRE-COVID). Form a study group to succeed because an A is very possible if you work for it.

CH 301LaudeFall2020AExclusively multiple choiceDental School Pre-Req, Required for MajorI loved this man. He was so funny and genuinely cared for his students. Please take his class! An A isn't too challenging to get if you work hard and keep up with the weekly topics. Exams were multiple choice and attendance was NOT mandatory the semester that I took it. He had optional instapoll questions to check for understanding, but they were not worth any points towards your grade. Required materials included a course packet (authored by Laude), which was helpful when it came to studying. For CH 301, he did not offer any extra credit opportunities or drops when I took his class.Office hours were my lifeline, and all of the TAs were amazing. It's so rare to have such a great teaching team, but somehow Laude manages to do it. They held great review sessions and were really organized. Laude's office hours were also clutch- even if he has them at 8 AM.

UGS 303 CULTURAL INTELLIGENCE IN THE AGE OF TRUMPMooreFall2020ANo exams- grade was made up of projectsUGSI took this class online during the fall semester of my freshman year. The class is very insightful and open-minded, it was incredible to be able to interact with so many students at a deeper level. The workload was average, we had to reach a couple of chapters of a book every week but no exams, the grade was made up of group projects. Attendance was not mandatory, but most people would always show up because the class was truly so great!! I personally studied by annotating the books as I read and I would go back to read over them every so often. We only had two required books for the class and they were fairly priced (around $12-15 for each). I would 100% recommend this course, Dr. Moore is great and the class is very interesting!Keep an open mind!

ARH 303WaldmanSpring2021AFree response (multiple mini essays)VAPAAMAZING. Take him! At least when this class was web-based, Dr. Waldman was so considerate and entertaining to listen to. His exams are super easy. They are mini essay format and as long as you show you put effort into your responses, it will be an easy A. The TAs are also super nice. The exams are open for ~5 days and you can go on at any time to take it and you can also just log off and continue working on it the next day. There is no time limit on the exams as long as you get them done before its due. There is an art analysis essay you have to do, which is probably the only annoying thing about the class (if you don't like writing essays). Other than that, take him!!! You will 100% learn to love and enjoy art as long as you put in the effort :) Attendance is not necessary and I stopped going to them around the second half of the semester. Just make sure to look at the lecture slides and attend discussions to understand the artworks. The class is graded mostly based off of 3 exams, weekly discussions (which are basically participation. Just show that you're trying), and the critical analysis paper.Keep up with the lecture slide topics each week so you don't fall behind

BIO 311CSathasivanFall2020AM/C, free responseDental School Pre-Req, Required for MajorI think cheating became a really big problem starting the spring of 2020 when COVID hit and everything went web based. His class got ridiculously hard especially for an introductory class. The difficulty of the test questions went up during the fall semester that I took it. I highly recommend taking another bio professor. The course was fully online and I thought the workload was a bit too much for an introductory biology course. Attendance is mandatory since he does squarecap, which is a small part of your grade. I was able to do well only because I had friends who were also taking the class and we were able to study together and figure out harder concepts together. You are forced to buy his textbook which has loads of gramatical errors in it. You pretty much have to self teach yourself the whole course. He is also pretty unforgiving and doesn't curve much on the exams. I would not recommend this course. He drops one of your exams but his exams are always a hit or miss on whether or not you do well.If you have to take him, use online sources.

I thought the class was extremely easy, all of her exam questions come from her lecture slides. Very manageable and she is also super accommodating. Attendance is mandatory and highly recommended since the test comes from the lecture slides. I studied by just making notes from the lecture slides. I usually make the study notes after each lecture and then study it the night before. The textbook is mandatory but is an online textbook and comes with the LTA program. Large part of the class is graded based on the biweekly quizzes. I highly recommend this course and imo it was always the highlight of my day. Make sure to attend discussion sessions (TA Jerry is the BEST!!!) since some of the quiz questions come from discussion/hw questions.

M 408RMacedoFall2020AFree responseRequired for MajorOnline class. Amazing. Alex is seriously the best and made me enjoy this class. The TA's are also super amazing and willing to help. The workload is manageable, it's a four credit hour class so don't expect it to be a blow off course. Definitely keep up with the work and you will be fine. Attendance is highly recommended since Alex teaches the lecture material (and also his practice problems he does in class are going to be on the exams). Alex posts an exam practice a couple days before the real exam which is pretty much the exam but with numbers changed. The exam can be taken any time of during the period that it is open (~3 days) and you can open it and take the exam any time during the period. There is no time limit, as long as you get it finished before the due date. No required materials apart from Quest program (online hw program). Tests make up a good portion of the class but there are also HW, Quest, and discussion that help boost your grade. He also curves on his exams. Highly recommend this course. NTR 312LashingerSpring2021A-multiple choiceRequired for MajorThis course was an online intro to nutritional sciences class that I took last spring. It was meant to be taught by Dr. Hayes but was transitioned to Dr.Lash for the first time that semester. This course was content wise not extremely heavy or difficult but it was not easy either. Dr. Lash has a very particular way of throwing a lot of information at you at once and expecting you to learn every detail at the same time. Her quizzes (cfu's) are 5 mc question 7 minute quizzes every week that cover very detailed areas of her lectures and are closed note. They are also a heavy portion of your grade so you really don't want to make any mistakes. Her exams are a total of 1 midterm and a final which are comprehensive and pretty different from her quizzes. They are mostly situational questions that expect you to have a very detailed but also broad understanding of nutrition and be able to apply it accordingly. She is a really nice person but her class is rather difficult, especially for an intro course.I would recommend being diligent in studying since there is a lot of content and material to absorb in a short amount of time. Study well for the CFU's because they are a crucial part of your grade. Be aware that there are no curves or extra credit so you want to earn every point you can. Don't make simple mistakes of missing a discussion board either!! Good luck :)

BIO 325SaxenaFall2020A-multiple choiceDental School Pre-Req, Required for MajorThis course was not easy but it's doable if you study. Dr. Saxena is a good professor but he lectures in a very broad way. His method is mainly to introduce concepts to you and guide you to work on understanding them in depth through homework or the book. The book is a helpful guide in this class and its mostly a self teach course. I had a great TA the semester I took Genetics, so it was really helpful to go to office hours. The exams are conceptual and math based if there is any problems with math and they are only about 20-25 questions. You have to really practice to do well in this class. Dr. Saxena is helpful if you attend his office hours but make sure you have questions going in. This course is really interesting but can be overwhelming at times so make sure that you really put in the work from the beginning so that you don't fall behind!

BIO 365SMachartSummer2021Amultiple choice & free responseDental School Pre-Req, Required for MajorI took this course over the summer and I really enjoyed it. The workload was relatively heavy considering that I took it in the summer but it was doable. Attendance for this class was not mandatory but there are points that were taken after class as polls. I studied for this class in groups as she was very big on studying with groups and exams were allowed to be taken as groups. Required materials were the textbook which was very very helpful for this course. For reading quizzes, you had to read the book and answer the questions accordingly. There were 14 reading quizzes, 4 homeworks, and 4 exams (last one optional) and your grade is determined by those. There is few extra credit and if you don't take the last exam it is dropped. I would recommend Machart as she was a really good professor who made the effort to teach the material no matter what. She was always open and available to answer questions and always took the time to help. She was extremely understanding of extenuating circumstances as well. Great course!

BIO 325SaxenaFall2020A-multiple choiceDental School Pre-Req, Required for MajorI took this course online during the fall of 2020. This course is rather difficult and takes a lot of self studying outside of class. The workload is not heavy and the professor lectures very broadly over the concepts he expects you to understand in depth. Attendance was not necessarily mandatory but he did do polls during class. I studied by going over the homeworks and reviewing my notes from class, I occasionally used the book too. The required material is to have a subscription to connect which comes with the book. The grade is determined by 12, two question multiple choice quizzes, 25 points to accumulate through connect homeworks, and 2 exams (midterm and final). No exams are dropped and there was one extra credit opportunity. I would recommend this course if you can put in the time to study on your own time and really focus on understanding the concepts outside of class.I would really recommend taking advantage of the UGTA's office hours and taking the time to understand the concepts early on in the course because you don't want to fall behind. Good luck! (this is a re-do review for BIO 325 since i didn't do the last one as well)

CC 306MCurtisFall2020Amultiple choiceRequired for Major, ElectiveI took this course online. I thought this class gave me great insight on language and its application in the health field. The workload was not heavy but you have to commit time to memorization. The professor was really great and very informed in every topic he lectured on. He is passionate and is always open to questions. When I took this course it was asynchronous and he had optional office hours so no mandatory attendance. I studied by making quizlets to memorize and going through them. I also took handwritten notes to commit to memorization and watched all lectures (some multiple times). Required materials are TopHat subscription and nothing else (optional textbooks). The grade was determined by homework, 7 exams (1 drop), and extra credit quizzes. I would recommend this course if you are interested in learning about the linguistics of terms we will likely be using in our field. It takes a lot of time to memorize but I definitely enjoyed it!Make sure you spend a lot of time memorizing in this course and preparing for the exams at least a few days ahead of time because you can't cram. Great class, good luck!

CH 320NShabbirSpring2021ATwo sections: one multiple choice, the other free responseDental School Pre-Req, Required for MajorThis course was online when I took it. I found the course to be challenging but not impossible, I actually felt like I was able to learn a lot and found some enjoyment in the course. The homework's were extensive but if you worked on them as you watched the lectures and learned the material it was much easier to manage. Additionally because the homework's were so long it was very good practice for the actual exams. Dr. Shabbir was a good professor in the sense that she was able to explain concepts very thoroughly, however some people may still struggle when trying to learn from her. If this is the case I would highly suggest attending recitation sessions. These are supplemental meetings in which the TA's would provide an hour long lecture type review of what was taught in class. When I was taking the class there were about three recitation sessions per week, each taught by different TA's. I always tried attending at least one of these meetings as I found them to be great review. It also helped to learn these concepts from the various different teaching styles of the different TA's. When the class was taught online our lecture time was dedicated to office hours whereas our actual lectures where simply provided to us through lecture recordings. This meant that attendance was not mandatory but it was important to stay on track with the recordings in order to not fall behind. Additionally there were instapoll questions associated with the recordings therefore these kept you somewhat accountable for watching lectures. My main methods for studying was to rewatch the recordings, redo the homework assignments, and attempt the supplemental past exam questions that were also provided to us. There was no textbook requirement for this class. There was a suggested textbook but I found it to be confusing and overly detailed therefore I only focused on the lecture recordings and found this to be more than enough to do well in the class. The bulk of our grade was determined by four midterms, one of which was dropped, along with a final. The rest of our grade was determined by homework's and instapoll questions. This is a challenging course but I believe it is totally doable and can be very enjoyable if you put in the right amount of work and time.Go into the course open minded. There is a lot of stigma surrounding organic chemistry as a whole given its level of difficulty but I believe it can be just as enjoyable as any of your other classes.

When I took it online, attendance was mandatory one class a week and the other class day was completely asynchronous. The workload was very light with weekly textbook homework assignments and canvas discussion board posts. Dr. Kim posted pre-recorded lectures before class but class attendance was still mandatory as she went over instapoll practice questions during class. The exams were not bad as they were very similar to the practice exams she would post. The course grade was determined by 52% 3 highest midterms, 24% discussion section quizzes, 12% homework assignments, and 12% instapoll. Overall, I would definitely recommend taking Genetics with Kim.

The workload was pretty high with daily post-lecture quizzes, weekly homework sets, 3 midterms, and a final exam. When I took this course online, class attendance was not mandatory as he would post the lecture recordings after class. I found that reviewing the homework questions as practice was the best way to study for his exams. The grade breakdown was 5% daily quizzes, 15% homework sets, 40% midterms, and 40% final exam. I would recommend taking this class with Iverson, but you definitely have to put in a lot of time and effort to do well in this class.

BIO 337 Pandemic ScienceMeyersFall2021AWeekly multiple choice quizzes and two group projectsElectiveThis class was synchronous online and attendance was mandatory. The workload was very light for an upper division bio class and if you can get a partner to alternate turning in quizzes first with you it is quite easy. Dr. Meyers is very knowledgeable and always got very interesting guest speakers as well. I never STUDIED I just read the readings as I took the quizzes and just worked during the assigned class time and TA office hours for my projects. There was only one book required and it was quite cheap on amazon (~$15). (You technically could've just used spark-notes instead of buying it too). It is project heavy with you grade depending 1/3 on each project (2 total) and then about 15% from quizzes and 15% from attendance/participation. You do get 1 quiz drop. I would definitely recommend this class as a good upper division bio elective.Definitely create groupme(s) and form a buddy or multiple in the class to alternate turning quizzes in first and check answers with.

SDS 328MGuyotSummer2021B-free response and multiple choiceDental School Pre-Req, Required for MajorProfessor Guyot is a great professor . I found her class easy to follow. We were assigned homework’s every week and worksheet for practicing our skills. What I did not like about this class was the free response quizzes and exams. you only have an hour for each, and i found it difficult to do the extensive math problems in a timely manner. My best advice for this class is to practice working out the problems with a timer so you don’t run out of time on the exams/quizzes.Do the practice worksheets even though they aren’t counted towards your grade. It’s very beneficial

SOC 302HaghshenasSpring2020ABoth multiple choice and free response/essay style questionsDental School Pre-Req, Required for Major, ElectiveThis was my first in person class that I attended during the transition of changing COVID-19 protocols my freshman year. With that said, Professor Haghshenas really prioritized this course being in person in order to practice and engage in his lessons, including emphasis on mindfulness, mental health, and individual and societal peace. In fact, he started off each class asking us how we were, and even conducted some breathing exercises to get us started: it's obvious that Professor Haghshenas is passionate in living out his material to the fullest. Personally, this is what made it such a great experience. However, the course can be tough. There's heavy reading to do before each class and Professor will refer to these articles continuously. You are required to buy a hard copy full of these readings prior. While attendance wasn't mandatory, his lectures are especially important for quizzes/tests. Questions from these exams actually derive from word for word things he mentions in his lecture, and plenty is from the readings. If you seem to get behind in the readings, it's okay! I'd just make sure you have a good idea of the message and purpose each one explains. I studied by reviewing each of these articles via youtube explanations and blurb summaries online. That way, I could get a better understanding of the reading with proper elaboration, which was especially helpful since alot of the articles are confusing/dense/contain large vocabulary. Besides that, the course grade is also determined on group work presentations and short, weekly write ups on unit topics. It's a great way to meet other people and engage in a team, also while reflecting on the lessons in a personable way. Usually the TA grades these write ups, and they care more about what we took away from the class compared to strict, "essay" style papers. They are definitely assignments to help your grade, v hurt it. Overall, I put a lot of effort into this course, not out of stress, but out of genuine interest. Professor Haghshenas is great that way. While there are no specific extra credit assignments, achieving an A is very do-able correlating to the amount of time you put in. :)Tackle this course with an open mind and open heart. Sometimes we take classes not to just fulfill requirements, but to engage and practice the lessons we learned in our daily lives. If you get anything out of this class, it should be that your wellbeing and the wellbeing of others is more important than we prioritize.

BIO 326RKingSpring2021AMultiple choice and free responseDental School Pre-ReqDr. King explains concepts well and makes it interesting to learn about microbio. The multiple choice questions on the exam aren't hard, though the free response is required to be very detailed and specific to what was explained in lecture. There's also quiz assignments due before every class period but are for a participation grade.Take careful notes in lecture for things that may be on the free response!

BIO 311DBuskirkSpring2021AMultiple choiceDental School Pre-Req, Required for MajorThis course was online and I LOVED the professor. Dr. Buskirk is the most down to earth professor and really cares about her students. She is so wholesome and its literally impossible to hate her. I thought the class was manageable and straight forward. She goes over everything that is on the quizzes so nothings is a surprise. Attendance was not mandatory but there’s were instapoll questions. I studied by going over the lecture slides and hw. I would definitely recommend this course.

CH 302SparksSpring2021AMultiple choice and FRDental School Pre-Req, Required for Majori thought that Dr. sparks talks really slow. Our course was online so I was able to watch her lectures on 2x speed. She teaches pretty straightforward and not in a confusing manner. I thought the class was definitely manageable but was definitely a step up from CH 301. The work load was one of my heavier classes but as long as you put in the effort you should be fine. Most of our lectures were asynchronous. I liked how the final was optional if you did well on all of the tests.
