2	CDL Pre-Trip Inspection Checklist - Class A
3		Engine	Simple memorization hack for your CDL exam and regular inspections:
4		Brakes	• BBC - Is any plastic or metal Bent, Broken, or Cracked?
5		Lights	• CDL - No hard materials should be Cracked, Damaged or Loose.
6		Wheels	• ABC - Are there any Abrasions, Bulges, or Cuts on the rubber?
7		Steer Axle / Rear Suspension	• PFL - Peak For Leaks in fluid and air containers.
8		Side and Rear of Cab	• PMS - Are bolts Properly Mounted and Secure?
9		Driver Shaft / Rear Frame
10		5th Wheel
11		Trailer Front / Side / Rear - Trailer Suspension
12		Gauges / Inner Truck
13	Engine		Check
14		Hoses	All hoses should be secured on both ends with no splits or cuts.
15		Fluids	Engine oil, washer fluid, coolants, and power steering.
16		Belts	No more than 1/2"" to 3/4"" of give, securely mounted with no fraying ends.
17		Alternator	Securely mounted, belt in good shape.
18		Water Pump	Properly mounted with no split or leaking hoses.
19		Air Compressor	Securely mounted, no visible or audible leaks.
20	Brakes		Check
21		Brake Pads	¼ minimum brake pad thickness.
22		Slack Adjuster	1” of play and at a 90' angle to the brake chamber.
23		Brake Chamber	No audible leaks or visible damage.
24		Brake Hose	Securely mounted, no audible leaks, splits, or cuts.
25		Brake Drum	No bluing from excessive heat, securely mounted.
26	Lights		Check
27	Truck Lights
28		Front	Clearance lights, headlights, high beams, turn signals, flashers.
29		Sides	Turn signals, flashers, clearance lights.
30		Rear	Tail lights, brake lights, left turn, right turn, 4-way flashers.
31	Trailer Lights
32		Front	Clearance lights.
33		Sides	Turn signals, flashers, clearance lights.
34		Rear	Clearance lights, tail lights, license plate lights, brake lights, turn signals, flashers.
35		Reflector Tape	Clear, free of dirt.
36	Wheels		Check
37		Wheel Inside	Not broken, no illegal welds.
38		Wheel Outside	No cracks or illegal welds.
39		Tires	No cuts or bulges, air gauge matches manufacturer spec, tread depth at least 4/32" and evenly worn.
40		Spacing	Duals are properly spaced.
41		Valve Stem	Not audibly leaking. metal cap in place and secure.
42		Lug Nuts	Present, tight, no cracks.
43		Hub Seal	Not cracked or loose.
44	Steer Axle / Rear Suspension		Check
45		Steering Shaft	Not BBC, securely mounted.
46		Steering Gear Box	Not BBC, securely mounted, no visible leaks.
47		Hose	No visible leaks, properly mounted.
48		Pitman Arm	Not BBC, securely mounted, nuts and pins are all hardware is present and secure.
49		Drag Link	Rubber is in good shape, bushings are properly greased and not split or cut.
50		Upper / Lower Control Arms and Tie Rod	Not BBC, securely mounted.
51		Spring Mounts	Not BBC, securely mounted.
52		Leaf Springs	Not BBC, securely mounted, not shifted or scissored.
53		U-bolts	Not BBC, securely mounted, all accounted for.
54		Shock Absorber	Not BBC, securely mounted, no visible leaks, rubber bushings aren't dry rotting.
55	Side and Rear of Cab		Check
56		Mirrors	Mirrors adjusted properly and without cracks, free of dirt.
57		Foot Pedals	Unobstructed.
58		Horns	Functioning properly.
59		Windshield	No stickers, cracks, or excessive dirt.
60		Heater / Defrost	Both operate when the fan is set to max.
61		Wipers	Arms move properly when turned on, and wiper fluid works.
62		Steps	Mounted and secured.
63		DEF Cap	Secured.
64		Fuel Cap	Gasket and vent in place, chain secures cap to the tank.
65		Skirting	No damage, panels secure.
66	Driver Shaft / Rear Frame		Check
67		Frame	No illegal welds, not BBC, no rust.
68		Drive Shaft	Not BBC, properly mounted, not twisted, and the U-joints are clean.
69		Universal Joint	Not BBC.
70		Differential	No leaks.
71	5th Wheel		Check
72		Bolts / Bracket	All accounted for and secure, not broken or bent.
73		Locking Pins	All accounted for and secure, not broken or bent.
74		Release Handle	Releases freely and is in the locked position.
75		Apron	No cracks, no gap between apron and 5th wheel plate, securely fastened.
76		Skid Plate	No cracks, properly greased, securely mounted.
77		Platform	Securely mounted, not cracked or broken, no illegal welds.
78		Kingpin / Locking Jaws	Locking jaws are wrapped around kingpin, which is straight with no chips or welds.
79		Air Lines	Securely mounted at both ends. Lines are free of cuts, no audible leaks.
80		Electrical Line	Secured at both ends. Lines are free of cuts, no audible leaks.
81	Trailer Front / Side / Rear - Trailer Suspension		Check
82	Trailer - Front
83		Header Board	Properly mounted and secured, not BBC, no missing rivets.
84		Clearance Lights	Not loose, cracked, or dirty.
85		Top Rail	No cracks or collision damage.
86	Trailer - Side
87		Rivets, Holes	No holes, all rivets in place.
88		Landing Gear	Properly mounted and secured, not BBC, shoes are present, handle moves freely.
89		DOT Tape	Covers at least 50%, not dirty or peeling.
90		Floor	No holes.
91		Cross Members	None are damaged, missing, or twisting.
92		Tandem Release	Properly mounted and secured, not BBC.
93		Slide Rail	Properly mounted and secured, not BBC.
94		Pins	Engaged.
95	Trailer - Rear
96		Clearance Lights	Not cracked or dirty.
97		Doors	Not broken, no holes, seal intact.
98		Hinges	Securely mounted, not BBC.
99		Door Handles and Rods	Securely mounted, functioning properly.
100		Lights	Securely mounted, not cracked or dirty.
