- Intended for experienced skiers who are not yet ready to carry their rifle and shoot standing
- Recommended for athletes who complete a 4.5km Sprint competition in 15-25 minutes, and who have a finish time before shot penalties of 20-30 minutes in a 6 km Individual competition

- Athletes may use a sling, but may not use a rifle rest when shooting
- Intended for advanced skiers who are not yet ready to carry their rifle and shooting standing
- Recommended for athletes who complete a 6km Sprint competition in 15-25 minutes and who have a finish time before shot penalties of 25-35 minutes in a 7.5km Individual competition

- Athletes don't carry their rifle while skiing - they can pick it up at a rifle rack or it can be delivered to them at the shooting mat
- Could include use of optical/laser rifles
- Recommended for athletes who complete a 4.5km Sprint competition in 20-30 minutes, and who have a finish time before shot penalties of 35-50 minutes in a 7.5km Individual competition

- All ages. This individual would register in the "Rec" category and/or for fun competitions e.g. cookie race.
- Typically, travel to events is minimal.

Eligible to compete:
This means the individual can register and compete (race) in the described category. The Organizing Committee (with support from the Division and Biathlon Canada) is responsible for ensuring all individuals are registered in the appropriate category. If an individual is not registered in the correct category, the OC will ask them to adjust their Biathlon Canada registration to the appropriate category.
