Baby & Me Playgroup5-Mar-201910:00-12:0030 Locust St, Northampton, Massachusetts 01060Midwives at Cooley DickinsonSEE LINK FOR FURTHER DATES Baby & Me Playgroup and Brainstorming Sessions:
Parenting a baby is complicated. While many of us find moments of joy, wonder, and delight, we also find ourselves challenged in new ways on a daily basis.
Some of us feel isolated, inadequate, worried or exhausted. It can feel like there are hard decisions to make every day, while everywhere we turn there are people telling us that they have the answers. It can be overwhelming.
However, we are also experts. No one knows our individual babies better than we do, no one knows our families better than we do, and no one else is better equipped to make choices for ourselves and our babies than we are.
Join other parents and their babies for an advice-free playtime and brainstorming session focused on the topic of the week. Spend time with your baby in the company of other parents who are also figuring it out day-by-day. We’ll share the joys and challenges of navigating each of our particular situations; we’ll keep our minds open to ideas we hadn’t considered, and we will share what has worked for us, while remembering that each parent, child, and family will find their own way based on their unique values and beliefs.
Rotating topics include:
● Sleep ● What’s in your diaper bag and why? ● Childproofing your home: Preparing for and living with a crawling baby ● Going back to work ● What makes a good toy? ● Tummy Time ● Information overload: how do you decide what to follow? ● Screen Time ●

Facilitated by Grace Nowakoski, Women’s Health Education Coordinator; parent, former nanny, birth and postpartum doula, and group prenatal care facilitator.

Hitchcock Center for the Environment

Hitchcock Center for the EnvironmentMembers: $450/Non-members: $560. They don't use blueprints or fancy tools, but animals can be amazing builders by using natural materials like leaves, sticks and even spit! Whether it's for nests, homes, camouflage or catching prey, animals have a lot of reasons for their architecture. At this homeschool session we will explore the construction skills of animals and build creations of our own. While we study animals, we will also think about human architecture: we will learn about the features of Hitchcock Center's "Living Building" and the choices we made to make our building kind to the planet. Hikes, home projects, games and field trips are all part of the fun! Limited to 12 participants per age group. https://campscui.active.com/orgs/HitchcockCenterfortheEnvironment

As part of Spring into Citizen Science - we will become researchers. Working with scientists on local and national science projects, collecting data that matters! For this homeschool series we will dive into different science projects and asking lots of questions, such as: What do spotted salamanders do in spring? Who are our local migrating fish, and why do they migrate? When do flowers bloom and buds burst? And more! Kids can offer a new way of looking at an issue, so bring your scientific mind, observation skills and unique perspective to our class. Through observation, special guests, field trips, and surveys, we will study the world around us and contribute to science while also having fun, exploring and playing games.
