It will be a natural tool or skill that can help in strengthening my leadership style/skills
Ability to relate would help me to understand and read my student's interest and identify their strengths in order to structure the learning accordingly. Ability to participate and contribute would help to encourage and work alongside the students and my own peers. Ability to manage self would help me to organise my own learning and work around others' schedule.

I am always sharing and helping others before my own things gets done. I believe I demonstrate Thinking, Relating to others and participating through this. These skills impact my leadershp in the class - leader of learning with all my students and with leading my team. Another impact is staff learning from each other and it provides colloboration to learn from each other and you learning from others around you (recp approach)
Helps me to create a thinking environment and drilling down in childrens knowledge that they do not need answers, but need to find the answers within the group and think more critically about impact on others, actions etc. I find telling students that they are all achieving helps them to participate and contribute during discussions and having tasks that are child centred allows them to talk about the strengths and weaknesses, also understanding the so what - being from this information, what now. Time focus and regular check in's, with children knowing the time expecation, helps to manage time on tasks, and work effectively to that.

I enjoy learning and thinking about my own learning and developing a love of learning in others. I think that sometimes I have problems sharing/vocalising my own ideas in groups where people may be more forward with their thoughts. I also struggle to have 'hard' conversations with others at times which effects how I relate to others.
I encourage my students to manage themselves and be responsible for their behaviour, work and belongings.

Having strong KCs such as relating to others and managing self does have an impact on being a leader. Without strong skills in relating to others students cannot identify with you and you will miss out on the interpersonal skills needed to be a good leader. By 'thinking' and having strengths in this enables a leader to reflect on their practices and adapt when required by the learner.

As a History teacher being able to participate and contribute and generate discussion is essential for the subject. Being confident in sharing ideas and challenging students to question themselves provides opportunity to lead class discussion.
Through drawing on my own strengths I have confidence to create activities and learning opportunities that foster these key competencies. In contrast to that, the key competencies that I am less confident in could be incorporated into lessons more.

Agh!
I suppose because I am driven by curiosity, I often engage the class in discussion which is teacher driven but student led. Questions arise from discussion where the onus is on the student to find out more information.
This links to using language because the discussion is directed back at the text we are studying.
THINKING: being naturally curious allows me to lead by example teaching students HOW to be curious and extend their learning.
USING LANGUAGE: is integral to being an English teacher. I model a love of language every day by reading with passion which helps to show students how they can love literature (in a cool way).

I always willing to put my hand up to give anything a go. I try to overcome challenges to the best of my ability and when confident, will feel successful. In doing this I hope to motivate other people to give things a go. I feel that sometimes I can come across too strong in what I think is right and can rub off the wrong way towards some people. No matter the deadline I always try to get things done on time to a high standard. I have high expectations but sometimes don't make these expectations as explicit as possible. I find it hard to communicate to the wider community because of fear of scrutiny and failure in the eyes of others.
I have high expectations and form relationships with the children easily which I then try to get them to communicate and form relationships with each other. I am constantly getting the children to problem solve and think for themselves and answer the why. The children often get involved in the class community and have a community fee in this way but not in the wider community. I try to think about ways to ensure the children are achieving these key competencies but not explicitly referring to them as reference points.

As I am curious and language based I really foster this in my classroom. I challenge students to think of why someone has chosen to use that word, song or image in their work and what implications this has for their own work. I believe relating to a diverse range of people and in a variety of contexts is vital to leadership. Being able to listen, negotiate and recognise different points of view is so important. Allowing time for children to process information in their own way, think critically and use metacognitive processes to make sense of information, experiences, and ideas is an area I need to work on.
Because I highly value working in a collaborative environment I enjoy providing many opportunities for students to build skills that allow them to work on relating with others effectively and participating and contributing. I believe that we have to be quite intentional when modelling and teaching these skills - identifying what works well and barriers to creating an environment that allows for this.

The KCs have an impact on my leadership because as a Teacher in charge of a subject and Year 12 Dean I have to be able to think, manage self, relate to others and participate and contribute on a regular basis. I attend many meetings across the School which means that I have to wear different 'hats'. I have to be able to see things from different perspectives and be open to many different situations. I also have to be organised as a leader so I am able to support staff and students appropriately.

The skill that I have selected to focus on is subject based. This is because I feel that as I have picked up a 'Leadership Hat' this has impacted on my 'practical skills' e.g. using language etc. This isn't to say it doesn't exist however I feel that it has become secondary lately.
My KCs help me create an environment and activities to foster students KCs because what I create and implement in my classroom is based on student voice (conducted regularly and if students let me know then I change my practice or strategy's). I also align the KCs to what students suggest in order to meet department objectives and learning goals (often outlined by students themselves).

In my department we often base assessments on KC criteria which contributes to their Junior Diploma. My classroom environment I believe is open and safe as my relationship with students is what comes first in my class. I spend a lot of time building and fostering these relationships so students feel able to participate and contribute in my class which ultimately enables success.

I see my role as a facilitator rather than a leader of learning (for students).
I like to pose questions about possible (student problems) and reshape this as 'problem to solve'. I scaffold their learning by providing a possible outline/ structure they can follow to resolve their issue, for example - inquiry learning - the 6 basic sections. I use the icon of our (Kura) marae as the framework. The different sections within represent an area of the inquiry cycle.
Although I provide the framework, it is up to them how and what they use for their own problem solving/ inquiry unit.
I get nervous about mainaging timeframes and ensuring students meeting deadlines. But more recently I have tried to look for the KC or skills students are showing/ growing/ learning while they are in action, rather than heavily focussing on subject content.
I think the above answers pertain to this question.

The KC's I would like to develop hinder my leadership abilities as I am yet to develop the confidence in sharing my ideas and lesson activities. This is because as I first year teacher I question my understanding and ability as a teacher (although questioning your practice is a good thing!)
By drawing on my own strengths I am able to model and break down concepts and ideas for my students through creatively planning activities and learning opportunities that allow them to build confidence in themselves and their knowledge.

However, the KC's I am yet to develop confidence in are not reflected often in the activities I design. I am aware of this and am wanting to improve the way I integrate 'Participating and Contributing,' for example, in order to develop the students KC's.

Team roles have been a great way of learning and I find myself a adaptable and valuable team member, for eg in the role that we just played in 'film making'. My KCs have driven me into roles in the wider life of the school and the community, eg taking responsibility for culture groups
I need to 'walk the talk'. The better I manage myself, the better managed will my students be as they learn from observation, eg preparedness for my class lessons. Relating to students helps me build a rapport with students. Preparing students for 21 st century, it has been an environment of participating, sharing and contributing,eg. brainstorming, team projects, presentations, student evaluation, peer checking. My own KCs impact on my leadership through the way that I am seen and heard by - both students and colleagues. The feedback through voice and action help to direct which skills I need to work on.

In terms of Thinking, this relates to the strategic planning I did for my department; it entailed looking forward as well as reflecting on student achievement and developing processes for change. As a HOD part of my role also entailed working collaboratively across not just my department, but also other curriculum areas. In many ways this is an example of Managing self and Relating to others, however these are not areas in which I excel and these KCs are elements I would like to develop.
As a leader I see it is also important to model ongoing and continual learning; most of my students are more technologically literate than me so it is important that I am able to 'let go of the reins' and allow them to help me use new language and texts and place myself if the learner role when it comes to information technology. In this sense I see this as a clear model of distributed leadership whereby everyone contributes to the moving forward of learning.

- set up my classroom and form routines
- plan my teaching programme
- use these as the standard to set up expectations
- to form next steps
- set up an area for KCs so we can refer back to that always

As an AP they have an important impact in the way I relate to other staff - as well as the way I relate to my students.
I have a couple of students I don't particularly relate well to and so am conscious of using the key competency to allow them to achieve the success they are entitled to - I work harder with my relationship with these students.
I need to manage myself, set goals and have high expectations of myself so I 'walk the talk' otherwise I can't expect anyone else to.

It enables me to be aware of how I will go about teaching a topic but I don't think I implement the same strategies with my students.
I work in processes whereby I've paved the way for their thinking but I haven't yet been able to facilitate their thinking to 'come across' this path.
I think it enables me to make the thinking process clear. Like I make my thinking visible but I haven't yet engaged in helping students to make their thinking visible.
Also I don't think I've enabled activities that enable students to participate and contribute - to collaborate. Because I want to know how each student is coping I haven't addressed this competency.
I was challenged by the question ' How am I as leader/ teacher modelling the key competencies?' because it really made me think about my approach in the midst of the assessment demand. It got me thinking about the driving factors for learning in my classroom.
So...I don't actually know how my KCs help create an environment to foster my student's KCs

My belief is that leadership comes from the front and this is my leadership style. If you display appropriate ways of managing self and relating to others effectively then you are able to lead by example. Also being able to interpret information and pass this on to your team in a way that they understand and with solid examples, means that they themselves are able to take up the challenges and meet the targets and complete the required tasks.
When students are given the opportunity to learn in different ways and be able to pass on and share their learning and knowledge through a range of activities, they are better able to display and put into action there key competencies.

I believe a huge aspect of the KCs involves communication, you can not lead others if you cannot communicate effectively and appropriately. Hence my strengths in relating to other and participating and contributing opens the door that allows me to lead others. To further develop my ability to understand and reflect on thinking by being more critical and creative may improve my ability to lead.
