I was the first female art director at two of Minneapolis' largest ad agencies, won the top awards in my field, started my own advertising/design business, and later founded a nonprofit, Art Buddies. http://www.artbuddies.org

My talk is first and foremost an authentic one ---- I describe both my successes and failures. Some of my stories are funny, some are serious. I show what it was like to be a woman in the Mad Men era, what happened after my ad agency burned down, and how much fun I had promoting creative people.

I tell how a failed romance led me to start my own business, and how a major illness inspired me to start Art Buddies, which helps kids in need by matching each child with their own creative mentor.

I end with lessons learned from my life, with hopes they will be helpful to the audience. A number of people have told me my story is inspiring to them, which makes me feel great, since I love to give back!

Sara Kosiorek has spent her professional career at the crossroads of communications & technology; and after two decades honing her talents, she’s what you'd call a virtuoso.

Her passion to find "a better way to do this" started long before she hit the post-college streets. However, it was her tenure in NYC that elevated her game by managing projects for Nickelodeon, MTV’s Rock the Vote Campaign, VH1’s Save the Music Foundation, and Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Essentially Ellington Competition. In 1999, Sara left MTV Networks for the chance to participate in a joint effort between The Knot and NBC's Today Show called "Today Ties the Knot"— a series which married on-air programming with on-line voting and set the stage for the new era of media interactivity that we are all used to today.

After a successful stint on the East Coast, Sara returned to the Twin Cities to serve as Director of Programming for NBC’s online coverage of the 2006 Olympic Winter Games in Torino, Italy. She then progressed to managing daily website operations for clients including CNN, NBC, Cox Television, Hearst-Argyle Television, McGraw-Hill Broadcasting, Meredith Broadcasting and Post-Newsweek.

Always learning, Sara is in the final stages of her Masters program at Harvard University, and spends her days at Periscope in Minneapolis: building great teams, improving processes, and creating impactful products and campaigns for some of the world’s most recognizable brands.
