INTRODUCTION
2
This spreadsheet is designed to help animal breeders generate pedigrees (up to 8 generations), track herd details, and calculate the coefficent of inbreeding (with the assistance of the COI% Calculator on the Babydoll Southdown Sheep Breeders Association website).
3
You will find that this spreadsheet is tailored to hedgehogs, but can be adjusted to suit your needs with any animal.
4
5
HOW TO USE & TIPS
6
Before you are able to use the sheet, you will need to make a copy. This will create your own version of the spreadsheet that you can edit as you please
7
Go to File > Make a Copy > Ok
8
9
Avoid editing formulas, cell placement, or contents of any cells not intended to be changed. Do not edit any cells within the pedigree itself, only make your choice in the selection dropdown. This may cause issues with the calculator, or break it entirely. If you need to make changes to an animal's information or to add notes to an animal, do so on the 'Breeding Registry' tab.

11
12
Breeding Registry
13
The 'Breeding Registry' tab is where all of your animal data will go. Each row represents one animal.
14
Fill in all of the applicable information you have for each animal, the more information, the more complete your pedigree will be.
15
Be sure to write the animal's name exactly the same every time. If there are herd initials, you will want to make sure they are exactly the same each time the animal is listed (for example, for the animal's main entry and every time that animal is referenced as a dam or sire, otherwise the spreadsheet will not link them correctly)
16
*Avoid duplicate names* If you have two animals with the same name, you will want to identify them differently in the 'Breeding Registry', either with herd initials, numbers, or Jr. etc. Otherwise the pedigree and COI formula will not work properly.
17
Your pedigree will only be as good as the information you put in the registry.
18
19
Add a photo: If you would like a photo of your animal to populate on the 'Pedigree for Print' you will need to insert an image in the PICTURE column for your animal. To add photo, select the animal's row, then the cell in the PICTURE column, click:
20
"Insert" -> "Image" -> "Insert Image in Cell"
21
22
If you would like to track other features, you can easily create more columns in the 'Breeding Registry' tab
23
24
Data Ranges
25
The 'Data Ranges' are designed with hedgehogs in mind, specifically color, quill pattern, and facial markings. If you find that the options you are looking for are not available, you can easily add them on the "Data Ranges" tab, under the specific column. For example if you wanted to add "Blue" as an option for "Color" , on the "Data Ranges" tab, under column "Select: Color" add "Blue" to the bottom of the list. Then, when you go back to 'Breeding Registry', you will be able to select "Blue" as an option for "Color" for your hedgehog.
26
27
Pedigree 8 GEN
28
There are two pedigree pages in this spreadsheet. The most expansive, for breeding purposes and for the COI calculations is the 'Pedigree 8 GEN'.
29
On the 'Pedigree 8 GEN' tab, there is a dropdown menu for you to select your animal. All animals that are entered in the registry should appear on the dropdown list. Don't worry, if you start typing the name, all available options should show up.
30
Once you select an animal, all available pedigree information will populate the pedigree, up to 8 generations.
31
If the cell is blank, yellow, that means that there is no information available for that field - typically this means the sire/dam is unknown for the hedgehog before it. If you believe this is blank in error, double check your 'Breeding Registry' to make sure the names are typed in exactly how they should be, especially dam/sire
32
If the cell is red, with an animal's name, that means that the animal highlighted red shows up in the pedigree more than once. This means there is some level of inbreeding present. Stay tuned, we will calculate the COI (coefficient of inbreeding at a later step).
33
34
If you would like to calculate a potential offspring's pedigree or COI (coefficient of inbreeding), you will need to add that hypothetical animal to the Breeding Registry, with a name (ex. Hoglet123) with the dam/sire information you are curious about.
35
36
Pedigree for Print
37
After you have selected the animal you are interested in on the 'Pedigree 8 GEN' page, a printer-friendly version will populate on "Pedigree For Print." Here you can add your logo, and easily print for customers, or save as a pdf.
38
Note: To have an image populate of that animal, you will need to add an image for that animal on the "Breeding Registry" page. See above for how to insert an image in a cell.
