UltrasoundSinaiCritical Care UltrasoundThis advanced point-of-care ultrasound elective is offered to senior emergency medicine residents as a four-week dedicated opportunity to enhance skills introduced during the PGY-1 ultrasound elective and practiced during the junior on-service rotations. The focus of this elective will be on critical care and trauma patients. The structure will be divided among one-on-one instruction from credentialed ultrasound faculty, self-directed learning and scanning, and weekly QA ultrasound review sessions with feedback on your scans. Wilderness MedicineWildernessWilderness Medicine on the Appalachian TrailDuring Week 1, learn the basics of Wilderness Medicine through online videos, readings, and simulations. Global HealthGuatemalaPOP Wuj Medical SpanishMedical spanish elective, 1:1 learning with a professor that includes cultural immersion and optional trips around the city. I went through Pop Wuj, which has a medical clinic open M-F (depending on staff availability) that provides primary care to patients who cannot otherwise afford to see medical professionals elsewhere. Pop Wuj uses a portion of the tuition to pay for community projects in the city (such as health education, stove projects, etc.)No license requirement, amount paid includes tuition, housing with a host-family, and three meals a day on weekdays.http://www.pop-wuj.org/

Medical EducationElmhurstSimulationThe simulation elective is designed to introduce residents to a range of aspects pertinent to medical simulation, including: curriculum development, debriefing considerations and skills, approach to teach diverse learning groups, best practices in procedural simulations, administration of a simulation center. The elective will be tailored to resident interest but will include a list of core readings in simulation, development of at least one simulation either for EM residents, medical students, or interdisciplinary simulation. Residents participate in the one day IMSAL debriefing course if it is available during the course of their elective.
