70 % or higher rating average or above average on item 8 employer survey
70% or higher rating on average or above average on item 12 graduate survey
The program implemented funeral directing activities due to negative ratings on the employer and graduate surveys. Preceptor education and training was not sufficient for the first two semesters to bring practicum sites up to par concerning the use of the forms and the tasks that are expected. Continued training has allowed for goals to be met
ECA was implemented this past year, all categories have exceeded the goal. Continued training and preceptor education will take place.

no clear assessment task was identified to validate this standard. A competency was added to the funeral director competency form (FD 24) which directly addresses working visitations. Preceptor training has been increased to ensure they understand the tasks students must participate in. An acceptable score was achieved last year. Continued education of preceptors will take place to ensure this standard is consistently met

It was identified that no cremation authorization form was being utilized during the MORT 211 paperwork assignment. That form was added as part of the packet. Continued education of preceptors of funeral service requirements was required- Hands on cremation activities have been proposed to the advisory board and agreements have been tentatively achieved with crematory owners to allow our students to gain hands on cremation activities, including the use of an official cremation authorization form. This change is expected to start in 2019.

Graduate SurveysMORT 217 Embalming Practicum II
Graduate Survey Tool60% of graduates must answer a 3 or higher on the scaleResponse rates were identified as being too low so the program started to issue the survey on the last day of class. This created problems because a number of students were not employed at that time but were able to secure employment within 6 months. The program now follows up with email and phone calls within the 6 month timeframe permissible by the ABFSEAnnualProgram ChairLinked graduate surveyPaper copies of the survey are maintained in a binder in the fireproof filing cabinet in F367A, electronic analysis is on a network drive and on off campus back ups

11.3.1.eNBE Pass ratesMORT 220 National Board Exam ReviewArts/ Sciences section scores60% of students must pass the arts and sciences section of the NBEMORT 220 National Board Exam Review was created as a means to better prepare students for the NBE in 2009, after a sub par year. Evaluation of Conference data allows MORT 220 to evolve in order to address areas of weakness provided by the Conference. Also, Conference data concerning embalming was examined and found to be lacking. The program identified the need to split MORT 105 (the only embalming theory course at the time) into a 3 credit MORT 105 embalming Theory 1 course and a 2 credit hour MORT 205 Embalming Theory II course to better cover the material.AnnualFaculty Member

11.3.2Graduation RatesAnnual Program ReviewProgram Data60% graduation as defined by ABFSEThe program has not identified any particular issues with the graduation rates. A change was made by looking at the number of students who had elected to never take the NBE. The program removed the NBE requirement for graduation. This has allowed a number of students to complete their degree but NOT waste money on the NBE since they have elected to NOT enter funeral service. Ivy Tech as a college maintains a graduation rate below 25%, the program is in good standing for college purposes.AnnualProgram ChairGraduation RateOffice of the Registrar and off campus back ups.
