Howard, Cardozo, Georgia Ave.
The name "Columbia Heights" pre-dates its metro stop, and it would make sense if Columbia Road — where the hill from U Street levels off, or reaches its heights — was the source of the name, but these days most people think of the blocks nearest Target as Columbia Heights. I think of Park View as being East of Georgia Avenue and Cardozo being west of Georgia Avenue. If I were describing this location in conversation I would say it was a shop "on Georgia Ave, by Howard."

I live here--people want to refer to it by more palatable names because gentrification this way comes. Don't do that.

I live in Park View and I think it is the best neighborhood in DC. There's sun, soul, and now, scoops!

I think "Columbia Heights", in the beginning, was like a Shaw. Everybody wanted to live there, so even though they were in Mt. Pleasant, or Parkview, or Petworth - they called is CoHeights. But Parkview has so much to offer, and I want to ice-scream it from the top of the obnoxiously-new-twenty-hundred-dollars-a-month-modern-apartment-buildings-being-constructed-on-every-dang-street-corner rooftops.

Also - above new hampshire = petworth. Below new hampshire, but above Irving is Parkview. Welcome Scoops!

Pleasant Plains, Park View
I’ve lived on this stretch for 3 years (Georgia and Harvard). You only call this Columbia Heights if you’ve never heard of Park View or Pleasant Plains. (Or if you’re assuming this of the person you’re talking to). It has been interesting to see how much more recognizable it is to say Park View recently, as opposed to 3 years ago.

Def not Columbia Heights or Petworth. While I know that technically it may be Pleasant Plains, I call it Howard. FWIW, I live in Park View so am more attuned to these distinctions than others. Can't wait to try the ice cream!

I always thought Howard and Pleasant plains were synonymous, but I could be wrong. I associate Sherman and New Hampshire as the eastern border of Columbia Heights

I live here and I typically tell people “I live next to Howard” since they don’t know pleasant plains. But then sometimes that doesn’t work either so my other go to is “bottom of Columbia heights closer to U street”

East of Sherman Ave is no longer Columbia Heights. South of Columbia Road is Pleasant Plains. Calling it Park View is acceptable, however.

a) Google Maps b) the CoHi vibe ends at 11th street for me. It feels like a distinct neighborhood East of there. c) I doubt the native Washingtonians who live in that area would call it Columbia Height but it might be informative to ask them!

Columbia Heights has a very specific feel and I think it's attributed to it's history and same goes for Georgia Ave. Although so close to each other the culture of the neighborhood feels distinctly different!

If Call Your Mother bagels is in Petworth, this is Columbia Heights. If Call Your Mother is in Columbia Heights, this is Howard. Depends on how you skew the neighborhoods N/S. The other options are not helpful if someone said "where's Heres the Scoop" Oh it's in Park View! Okay... where tf is that.
