The police identified the suspects (and even knew the name and residence of one of the suspects as he is a repeat offender for this crime), but was told that even though it's a FEDERAL CRIME to steal mail, if the burglars don't do at least 8k in damage the DA's office would not prosecute. After several weeks of emails and phone calls it became my responsibility to tally up all of the damage and provide repair estimates before they would pursue - it became such a time suck that I eventually gave up.
