| How might we reach audiences on the other side of the digital divide?
| Think Tank Agenda 1) Take a little time to introduce yourselves: name, pronouns, position, organization, city/state 2) Determine which audience segment you'd like to collectively brainstorm best practices for programming beyond digital initiatives 3) Brainstorm! Discuss! Take notes below! 4) What is your most important takeaway? Who will share this as your group's representative when we all return? 5) Do you all want to stay in touch!? Share contact information ;)
| Focus Audience (on other side of digital divide): Youth (5-11), multi-generational families, nonprofits working with limited resources/high staff loss due to pandemic
| Brainstorm Discussion Notes: - For those with limited staff: develop free take-home kits/projects with simple at-home materials in mind, then film videos and basic step-by-step handouts for students (using language appropriate for participant's age/reading level) to pursure activities without staff supervision. Can be done with a community partner (ie. local school) to ease distribution and consolidate non-tech based outreach efforts, or as a part of basic need (ie. groceries, hygenie item) drop-offs. - Talk to funders to ensure organizational efforts are counted towards programming/continued teaching goals. Many are open to discussing/adapting programming and potientally reallocating budget requests to meet evolving community needs - Now is a good time to build/expand/rely upon partnerships with other community organizations: programs should look to share resources/program materials (with credit to original artists/creators) to help increase outreach and effectiveness of services, and to increase the resource stock avalible for distribution centers. Work to identify what your organization can contribute to your community and where you need to seek partner support to minimize service duplication and increase your personal capacity - Consider transistion plan as we move from crisis-management to post-pandemic aftermath to return to "normal" activities; how will programs need to be adapted to fit each stage of re-opening? - Take risk-mitigation into account when handling distribution of program materials (ie. wait 24 hours before opening non-perishable deliveries, wear gloves/masks when handling distribution goods. Be creative with the items you use/require for programs to minimize supplies that need to be distributed (ie. use improvised household supplies instead of requiring specific art materials that need to be procured/distrbuted)
| #1 Most Important Takeaway: Building partnerships and sharing resources, specifically by creating a network with community partners to share best practices
