Susan ReganResidentPaint underpass entry from Middletown Ave onto Front street to create a welcoming river representation to Fair Haven.Create a welcoming approach to the waterfront area. Use of local artists to not only reduce cost, promote their work & give locals pride in their neighborhood. It would be nice to use historic art to document the waterfront connection to the native Americans who cherished the river. Educating all who pass through and creating a landmark destination. It would need appropriate lighting.6 months from forming committee for planning, recruiting artists and give community input on final art to execution. The painting would need to done in appropriate weather. I feel there are many artist that would love the opportunity to showcase their work for a stipend & promote their work. I would have to do more research on paint costs and supplies. Max:$10,000. Not including lighting.

Ivette AltieriResident of Fair Haven since 1997, Homeowner since 2006 also Community Leader Providing Free Fitness Services from March 2014- Dec 2018.The opportunity to bring back free fitness classes for adults, kids, families and seniors. My overall goal is to bring back fitness classes available to everyone of all ages and fitness abilities. In March 2014, I obtained a permit with the BOE and started providing weekly fitness classes at Clinton Ave School which were available free to everyone in the Community. During this process I opened a small dance studio. Which gave me the opportunity to do Fundraisers more freely as I couldn't find a permanent location to raise money to keep these classes going for all. At Beyond Fitness, I provided free classes every Tuesday for Kids (parents were encourage to participate) and also for adults. I also provided water. These classes were free with no commitment to anyone. A safe and welcoming facility for everyone to enjoy. During the process, I also teamed up with City Seed for three years and provided free classes every Thursday at Quinnipiac River Park in the Summer/Spring. This was an amazing opportunity being that they target the Nutrition piece and I was able to provide the fitness portion. This also gave me the opportunity to team up with the Food Truck that provides Summer meals for kids and do the same. In addition other non-profit Organizations like United Way, Fair Haven Clinic, Fair Haven Library, Cornell Scott, Health Fairs and Schools. Unfortunately, in Dec 2018 I ran out of funds to keep these amazing things happening in our Community. Being that they were provided by contributions I received from students, visitors and anonymous donors by doing Fundraisers at my Studio plus providing my own money. This year my goal is to bring this back to the Fair Haven Community. I'm very passionate and dedicated on helping others. Plus the smiles are priceless.Soon as possible. My first fundraiser is already set for Tuesday Feb 4th. I'm very goal oriented and try my very best to make things work. I would like to begin my first Kids & Family and Adult Session in March at Studio. Being that they are donation based, I provide the services in Sessions (one class weekly) available every other month, giving me a month to try and raise proceeds to provide the services. Before nice weather approaches I will be reaching out to past Organizations I've worked with to provide the same- out in the Community. I'm very excited and hopeful. For classes provided at studio:
Classes for both- adults only, kids & families: $1,680 this is based on our standard $7 drop-in rate. Based on 30 people. (for kids, we encourage parents to partake so there is no fee for them- Kids $7 each. (This total rate is only for 1 Session- One class a week for 1 month only) available every other Months and begin: March, May, July- More can be provided depending on funding.
Water- $90 ($8 case for 4 weeks to both classes)
Incentives- $200 (stickers, small toys, pencils, etc)
I create my own flyers. Would need help with printing- Staples or Vistaprint (estimate $125)

Out in the Community:
Classes for All- Kids & families: $2,300 this would be a flat fee (be it 15 people or 100+) also based on having to leave work 2 hours early or cut my hours. (This total rate is only for 1 Session- One class a week for 1 month only) available every other Months and begin: March, May, July- More can be provided depending on funding.
Incentives- $200 (stickers, small toys, pencils, etc.)
Water- $90 ($8 case for 4 weeks to both classes)
I create my own flyers. Would need help with printing- Staples or Vistaprint (estimate $125)
Bluetooth Portable Speaker with wheels $190 (the one I had for 4 years gave out)

Jacqueline Maisonpierre
I have worked in Fair Haven since 2013. From 2013- 2018 as the Farm Director with New Haven Farms and since 2018 as the Executive Director. As Farm Manager I spent the majority of my time working on our farms in the Fair Haven neighborhood, growing to know and love this vibrant and diverse community.

New Haven Farms, now merged with the New Haven Land Trust, was established in 2012 through a partnership with the Fair Haven Community Health Clinic (now Care). Fair Haven has been home to New Haven Farms since its inception. Currently five of the seven farms New Haven Farms operates are in Fair Haven, with our two largest farms being at 613 Ferry Street and 15 James Street. Fair Haven is home to New Haven Farms as demonstrated by the resources we have invested in both the community and the physical infrastructure and work we have invested in the farm sites in Fair Haven. We are have prioritized working with the Hispanic community in Fair Haven through bilingual programming and the hiring of bilingual and bicultural staff members. The Wellness Program Manager is a proud resident of Fair Haven. New Haven Farms has a voting position on the Fair Haven Management Team. I attends meetings regularly.
Provide additional summer job positions for three Fair Haven youth to work on our farms. Each year New Haven Farms and New Haven Land Trust work with the city of New Haven to host 5-15 Youth At Work positions. This year the number of slots was reduced, limiting our ability to provide valuable job training opportunities for Fair Haven youth. We are requesting $4,125 to cover the cost of employing three Fair Haven Students during the summer weeks. This would contribute to the program we run called Growing Entrepreneurs, a youth job training program providing opportunities for New Haven high school students to develop small-business ventures with a positive impact on the environment and the New Haven community. As employees of the Land Trust, students learn skills in agriculture and carpentry working on projects at community gardens. The program is designed to strengthen professional skills, entrepreneurship, understanding of environmental issues, gardening and carpentry skills, and character development - preparing them for secondary education, prospective jobs, and a future of environmental stewardship!

The 2019 cohort had three students from Fair Haven. If awarded this funding, three students from Fair Haven would work on the Growing Entrepreneur team to contribute to infrastructure improvements at the various Fair Haven gardens including 613 Ferry Street and Grand Acres Gardens. Improvements would be paid for by the New Haven Land Trust through a grant from the CT Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. The spaces that would receive improvement are open to the public. 613 Ferry street hosts a weekly farm stand and free exercise classes every Saturday from May through October. This valuable community resource, the Farm at 613 Ferry Street, would benefit from an investment, with local youth being paid to make physical improvements to this community garden and public gathering space.
Students will be hired by the end of February, working 5 hours per week year round. For five weeks during the summer, during the Youth At Work period, students work 25 hours per week. It would be during this time that the funds for this project would come into play, covering the summer salaries for three Fair Haven youth employees not otherwise covered by the Youth at Work program. The project would be complete by the first week in August, 2020. We respectfully request $4,125 to cover the cost of paying three Fair Haven youth for 25 hours of work during the period of June 29th - August 31st. Teens will continue employed through the Growing Entrepreneurs program through January of 2021. Students are paid $11 per hour.

DAVID GRECO - ARTE Inc.
ARTE is seeking $5000 in funding to support ARTE Saturday Academy (ASA) at The Atwater Center. ASA furthers ARTE’s commitment to developing the Atwater Center into a vibrant community center with multiple programs. The children of Fair Haven are underserved and do not have the same access or exposure as their suburban peers. Fair Haven youth and families cannot afford the high-priced alternatives available in New Haven. This project serves under-served youth by offering culturally relevant programs in a much-needed area. ASA occupies student’s down-time and gives them positive alternatives. ASA fosters arts exploration and creation, creates connections between people, and builds a sense of community in Fair Haven.

ASA has been a huge success! Launched as a pilot program to test the response and results, both of which have been extremely favorable. The pilot clearly showed a great need in Fair Haven for youth programs. ASA currently has 72 students enrolled and is averaging 50+ students each Saturday. Students have begun to bond and form new friendships.

Mission: A project to stimulate the brains of young people to reencounter themselves through the exploration of the arts, culture, leadership development, service engagement, and mentorship.

Vision: Participants will learn about people who have changed the condition of life. ASA aims to develop students’ skills in arts, movement, instrumental performance, communication, and critical thinking. To help students appreciate the arts and cultures that elevate the individual to seek empowerment and reencounter themselves.

ASA Program Components
• Seminars and activities related to the arts, dance, music, instruments, traditions, and cultures.
• Seminars on remarkable people and events that have shaped history.
• Lectures and discussions to foster a critical thinking approach.
• Lessons on to building understanding and sense of self.
• Create connections and promote relationships between people.
• Open dialogues by engaging parent and community participation and involvement.
• Diverse events available to the community to cross-pollinate cultures and communities.
• Neighborhood Projects to engage youth. IE: Fair Haven beautification / clean-up.
• Serve as a catalyst to build awareness and acceptance.

ASA is open to ALL youth ages 7 – 17, regardless of ethnicity, race, color, religion, or orientation. ASA is introducing youth to each other and exposing them to a variety of cultures through art, music, dance, lectures, presentations, talks and discussions.

Partners / Collaborators
• Dan Kinsman – Academy Director – New Haven Public Schools
• Daniel Diaz – Academy Communications and Coordination
• New Haven Public Schools

• Mariachi Academy of New England
• Various Instructors / Lecturers
• High School students – Mentors & Instructor’s (students are paid one week and volunteer one week. Allowing them to earn money while completing their NHPS mandatory community service hours)

Instructional Methodology
The methodology for teaching will be in the form of creative activities, experiential in nature and with a project-based approach, culminating in performances and or displayed work. Beyond the creative experiences, ASA will use videos, presentations, demonstrations, talks, and expert performances. Older students will mentor younger students to develop their own skills and abilities.

Parental Involvement
Parent participation will be in the form of audience, volunteers and promoters. It is expected that families celebrate their children’s participation in the program and invite friends, extended family, and neighbors to performances.

Outcomes:
ASA aims to equip students with the skills to become the next generation of artists, thinkers, and leaders. In addition, to learning about art forms our young students will learn to think and speak critically about the themes of various offerings, classes, talks, and performances. Ultimately to be able to organize and lead their own discussions and events in the community and as a culminating activity. ASA will generate a sense of self-pride and community.

Gerardo SorkinI am a Fair Haven resident and homeowner. I also work with many Fairhaveners in my professional role of Licensed Clinical Social Worker.Tango in Fair Haven: Neighborhood Development & Cultural EnhancementALL TERRAIN TANGO (TANGO TODO TERRENO*)
(*) It is not a tango dancing class
The multidimensional experiences that are part of tango, which in 2009 was included in the list of “Intangible Cultural Heritage” (UNESCO) have an outstanding richness an are a fertile ground for creative, multidisciplinary and collaborative developments.
Tango Todo Terreno is a participatory-group experience that links concepts and tools drawn from the science of psychology with the multi sensorially of tango. Its objectives and associated benefits are:
• To generate an educational and fun space to foster community interaction
• To facilitate self-knowledge and appreciation for others
• To learn about mind-body balance
The main protagonist is the music: the engine for the exercises and the trigger for mental processes and, at the same time, a balm for a healthier development. Tango Todo Terreno is open to everyone. Participants come by themselves, with a partner, a family member or as a group of friends. No previous experience is necessary. Comfortable clothing is recommended.
As per previous experiences, Tango Todo Terreno was presented in several venues, including the New Haven International Arts and Ideas Festival in June of 2019. At this time we are presenting a proposal for the FHCMT NPIP to:
Carry out 3 activities connecting education and culture with neighborhood development.
We believe these activities will have a positive impact on Fair Haven by:
Promoting cultural diversity and educational events open to the public
Celebrating community and diversity in our neighborhood
Fostering practices that positively affect our wellbeing
The overarching idea is that neighborhood improvement is also community participation at meaningful and accessible educational and cultural events.
We have selected the “Tango Sensorial Edition” because it is a novel way of adaptive tango. It combines elements of Tai Chi Chuan, music therapy and fun! It also provides wellness strategies that are applicable to children, adults and seniors.
Its creator, Verónica Paz (Dancer, tango teacher, Instructor of Therapeutic Tai Chi Chuan) registers the brand as a method to connect with oneself first, and then, mediated by a dancing embrace, with others, in a social environment. Ms. Paz has presented at Cultural and Educational places in Italy, Argentina, Chile and France for the last 10 years.
To summarize, the combination of Tango Todo Terreno & Tango Sensorial, is intended to bring a different educational, cultural and educational platform for the enjoyment of Fair Haven residents. In order to break linguistic barriers, the presentations will be simultaneously in English & Spanish.
Last but not least, the proposal includes an art display to commemorate “Tango in Fair Haven & Neighborhood Development”. We have partnered with ACES (Educational Center for the Arts) to design, select the physical space and carry out the art display of embracing diversity and community participation prompted by cultural and neighborhood development.

Natalie McCluneThe community orchestra I play in, the New Haven Chamber Orchestra (NHCO), rehearses and performs at the Fair Haven School on Grand Avenue. I also live In the Fair Haven community on Lenox Street. To deepen the New Haven Chamber Orchestra’s engagement with New Haven Public School youth. As we perform in Fair Haven, part of our mission is to make classical music accessible to all members of the community. Our concerts are free of charge and we encourage families to attend with children of all ages. We give away children’s books at our concerts to promote literacy as well. In this way, we can incorporate parents and families in the audience, encourage intergenerational relationships, and develop a diverse community of performing artists and audience members. Additionally, we partner with Fair Haven School music teacher Dan Kinsman on rehearsals and concerts. We plan to focus our spring concert, May 9, 2020, on NHPS students performing side by side with the NHCO, as well as featuring students as soloists with the orchestra. We will have a youth concerto competition open to NHPS students, where they will audition and if chosen, perform with the orchestra. Additionally, NHPS music teachers will collaborate with the NHCO to prepare other upper elementary and middle school students to perform a musical selection side by side with the orchestra. The students who perform with the orchestra will be invited to participate in summer readings in May and June in the hopes that some will want to continue to play throughout the following year. JoAnn Moran - Lots of Fish
I live in Fair Haven and the Lots of Fish workshop is on QE side of Grand Ave. bridge.School Zone Art: engage schools & community members in making art on storm drains and crosswalks.School Zone Art projects on storm drains and crosswalks can increase public awareness about our connectedness to waterways while contributing to community beatification and school zone traffic safety in Fair Haven Management Team area. The proposed project will paint the storm drains and/or crosswalks at 2 separate locations within Management Team area. We haven been planning with a group from Clinton School but sites can be decided by the group.

Goals
- Public Art; Community Beautification through local engagement.
- Environmental Education; Education & Awareness of our connection to local waterways.
- Traffic Calming; Amplification of School Zones through attention grabbing art installations.
- Support EPA standards to keep our local waterways clean: help fulfill New Haven's municipal requirement for MS4 permit.* www.RunoffArt.info

MS4 - The EPA permit for Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) requires each municipality to take steps to keep stormwater clean before it enters water bodies. School Zone and Runoff Art aligns with MS4 requirements to provide public education and outreach about its storm sewer system and associated pollution sources. By engaging young people and community members through hands-on, educational, public art projects and accompanying presentations, the participants gain extensive knowledge about their local watershed while creating attractive public art that draws attention to this environmental issue in a unique way.

March/April Engagement of & Presentation to Local Schools and/or Community Gathering
Each site project will kick off with a community presentation about the connections between urban stormwater systems and local waterways. After learning about the positive environmental impact of the project, students will create their own waterway inspired designs on templates of storm drains and crosswalks provided by Lots of Fish. During this student education phase, Lots of Fish will request the city permits necessary to execute the projects.

APRIL - Compilation of Student Designs & Site Preparation:
Student designs will be collected and delivered to the project artist. Lots of Fish artists will create a final design compiled of the students’ design elements.

MAY/JUNE Installation of Storm Drain & Crosswalk Art
Once the city departments issues the permits and safety procedures, a student and/or community painting day will be scheduled and advertised.
DAY 1 - The outdoor surface will be cleaned and the artist will transfer the design outlines to the storm water drain or crosswalk in preparation for students to paint. The students and/or community members will paint the entire design with guidance and oversight from the artist. Any finishing touches or text on the design will be completed by the artist.

FOLLOW-UP Maintenance kits with the paint colors used and guidelines will be available for groups and schools to ensure the longevity and ongoing stellar appearance of the art.

Alex GuzhnayI moved here when I was 3 years old; while I was born in New York, my parents are immigrants from Ecuador. I've lived here ever since. When I was a freshman in high school about 3 years ago, I worked a summer job for New Haven Farms where I worked at the 2 community gardens they have in the neighborhood. I helped maintain the gardens along with many others, which have now blossomed into beautiful places to visit and look at in the spring/summer. They've truly become part of the Fair Haven community. I also spent a lot of time as a young kid in the Fair Haven Public Library, where I fostered a love of reading that eventually helped contribute to my success in the classroom. I'm also a regular church attendee at Our Lady of Guadalupe. While I'm looking to help solve a few issues here in Fair Haven, I'm proud to have grown up here as it has shaped me into the young man I am today. Engaging Fair Haven residents through direct outreach and communication, to build a tighter community. My idea revolves around using canvassing more like an informative and beneficial tool, rather than a more persuasive tool (as seen during election season). The idea is to form a group of young and old canvassers that would aim to canvass the entire Fair Haven neighborhood and talk to all residents about the issues they face, which would happen monthly/semi-monthly depending on staff, for 1-2 hours. Using information and services supplied by the FHCMT, city alders, and city agencies, these canvassers would be able to easily connect our residents to important services that they may require or desire.

Canvassing will also be used to alert residents of city initiatives (such as free fire alarms) and local events (like Soup Nights, cookouts, etc). A common criticism I've heard in Fair Haven is that the city doesn't adequately respond to resident concerns. Thus, delegating people to talk to residents and serve as an arm to connect residents to people like their alder or teaching residents how to use SeeClickFix, it increases the chance resident concerns will be heard and resolved. If residents see that they're truly being listened to and helped out by the city, I truly think it makes it more likely for these residents to be willing to vote/engage politically and also engage in the community. When residents can trust the government and can see the good things the community is doing, we're able to restore trust and draw more people into the community.

Based on the recent 2019 mayoral election, the wards that comprise Fair Haven have one of the lower voting rates compared to other wards in the city. I hope to also use canvassing to register people to vote and also sign them up on FHCMT email lists (and potentially create a mass texting list), so then residents can receive monthly updates very easily. The goal is to also have flyers readily available (which would include the month's events, updates, city initiatives, the name of the resident's alder depending on the ward, and other pertinent information.) If flyers are used, they will also be bilingual!
In February, I hope to speak to Alder Crespo, Santiago, and Acosta; Because these alders represent most of Fair Haven, I aim to focus on their wards (I'll also look to speak to other alders that have part of their district in Fair Haven) However, because I'm focusing on these wards, I want to meet with them to gather more information that I think could make canvassers more prepared (for example, a list of common concerns that residents have + contact information for agencies/people, whether they'd be willing to come on these canvassing trips, etc). I think meeting with them is crucial because I want my canvassers to be prepared and have the most up to date and reliable information coming directly from city officials, rather than just going out without solid information about services. Last, but not least, I also think it's courteous to meet with them considering this project will involve their constituents.

Also, by the end of February, I hope to have a pretty comprehensive list of city services, which would include phone numbers, emails, and addresses (such as LCI, Public Works, etc), which canvassers would have readily available to reference when talking to residents. I also hope to have a draft of flyers that I would pass out to residents. Clipboards, pens, and other general office supplies needed can be gathered during this month too. Voter registration cards will also be gathered.

The goal is to also recruit a few more volunteers for canvassing during these months. I currently have about 5 canvassers (including myself), which consists primarily of fellow students from school; while I'm definitely going to be reaching out to more students, I also hope older Fair Haven residents will be willing to help out and volunteer an hour or two of their time in the evening.

The hope is by March, all materials are set up and ready to go, such as posters, clipboards, flyers, spreadsheets, voter registration cards, etc. The last thing that would need to be done before going out to canvass is to host a training session; the Fair Haven Public Library has a free meeting room that would be reserved. However, because census canvassing will take place beginning in March, I'm unsure whether I'd be interfering with the work census workers will be doing; thus, I am not sure if I want to start in March. Regardless, I hope to have a training session and a canvassing session in the same month. If I choose to wait till the census ends, canvassing would begin around April/June.

While I am graduating this spring, I will be attending Yale University this coming fall and thus will be able to oversee this project and continue canvassing. This won't be a one-time thing.
24 Clipboards (in bulk) - approx. 26 dollars. There'll be 26 clipboards because while there likely won't be 24 canvassers, some clipboards will end up breaking naturally.

300 Flyers - approx. 100 dollars; If there's anywhere you may recommend finding cheaper printing, please let me know!

Canvasser Materials (includes city services spreadsheet, a script for beginners - essentially more paper) - 10 dollars for printing

Miscellaneous Office Supplies (such as pens, pencils, post-its, etc) - 30 dollars

Based on these estimates, I am requesting 150-200 dollars. The huge expenses largely come from flyers (which isn't completely set in stone yet), so actual expenses may be lower. However, if anyone is willing to donate things such as pens, pencils, etc, it would lower the total cost; also, if anyone can recommend or find cheaper printing, that'd be great as well. While I am requesting a decent size of money, I truly think the benefit and the results produced by this will far outweigh any potential costs. Thank you!
