Why are you interested in reviewing portfolios?I love seeing the different curriculums that people use and connecting with other homeschoolers. It makes me feel great to be able to offer my knowledge and skills to the homeschool community.I enjoy helping families successfully homeschool their children. I hope to encourage them and answer any questions as we look over what all they learned and experienced during the year. I sincerely believe that parents have the right to choose how their child is educated. As a reviewer I have had the opportunity to see the interesting things homeschool families across the state are doing in their homeschools, and I truly love it. I love that parents have the freedom to meet their child's needs where they are and take their time to educate their child to mastery of skills rather than being pushed through the public education system. I love reviewing portfolios and getting to see all the different ways students are learning during the year! I enjoy consulting with my clients during the year to answer questions and troubleshoot any issues that may arise while homeschooling. My goal is always to make the review process as stress-free as possible and I love to ease people's minds and help them gain confidence in themselves as a homeschool parent. To help homeschoolersDoing homeschool assessments is my full time job from April- July. It brings me joy to encourage and answer questions for homeschoolers. I thoroughly enjoy working with fellow homeschoolers, giving encouragement, and sharing information to help parents educate their children to the best of their ability. Love being a part of the education of our homeschool families. As a Homeschool Parent for over 10 years, I am glad to share my knowledge and my background in education to help her homeschool families. I am a fellow homeschooler and I have degrees in early childhood, elementary education and special education. From a professional prospective, I like to see how home educators are fulfilling their duties. From a personal prospective, I love to see all the different ways of incorporating homeschooling and the magnitude of differences amongst each family. To offer support and guidance (as desired by families) to homeschool families in WV. I have always tried to he a part of the homeschool community, I enjoy reviewing them and meeting new people, and I am currently homeschooling my own children. I want to make it easier for my Braxton County neighbors to find a reviewer I love working with parents to discuss what their child has learned, what their strengths and weaknesses are, and helping them out in any areas they feel they or their child needs assistance. I’m using my education as a service for the homeschooling community and enjoy meeting and supporting fellow families who home educate. I enjoy meeting homeschool families and enjoy the opportunity to provide an alternative form of assessment for these families. To encourage parents who need to see that they are the best teacher for their child and support those who choose to home educate. To help other families have a stress free review My friend has been homeschooling for several years and I learned more about homeschooling from her. This will be the third year I have reviewed the portfolios for her children. I have always wanted to homeschool my children, but I admittedly did not understand enough about the requirements to know that I can be successful while also working full-time. I am a homeschooler as of the current school year and I believe that education is not one-size-fits-all and parents know what is best for their children. I want to review portfolios to help and empower parents who have chosen to educate their children as they see fit. Just to help out. I know I have a hard time finding a reviewer for my son.I can help other parents with the process especially those who school their special needs children from home. I have raised and homeschooled two children on the spectrum so I have the knowledge to help others in this portfolio process. I am interested in reviewing because I homeschooled my children for a time, and I believe that homeschool is an important, valuable choice for people and an effective way of teaching and learning. I like to help folks who homeschool have an understanding, flexible reviewer.I desire to serve the homeschooling community. As a very small side business because I don't work outside the home. I am a full-time stay at home/ homeschool mom.I am an advocate for homeschooling and also parent choices for the education of their children. Families can make the choice of the curriculum that is needed for their child and they may changes if it is not the right fit. Doing portfolio reviews, the family, child (children) and I will discuss the curriculum used and offer some other avenues and strategies especially with children with attending challenges, Autism, and other learning challenges. I am a believer in hands-on learning and experiences and not all learning is in a classroom. I enjoy watching children's progress each year and it is a rewarding experience to reviews the portfolio in person with the families.Supporting our homeschool communityTo help out other homeschool parents in the areaAs a homeschool parent with a special education background, I love seeing parents catering to their children's learning styles and discovering the creative ways they do it as I review the work. I've been doing this for 18 years and when parents ask, I have been able to share what I've learned to help them meet the individual needs of their children.

If you said no to the above question please state your reason.1.5 years - 1 child. Not currently. We were blessed with my children going to a 3 room public school in our small rural community that has been shut down( We were able to "negotiate" what was needed for our children, including by passing grades. We also did many field trips with our two children . This was many years ago.

Are you comfortable reviewing portfolios submitted in different modes and various learning styles?ABSOLUTELYYes, I am comfortable reviewing all types of portfolios. I ask for reading lists, work samples and/or logs of activities. This year I am planning to do reviews in person in Grafton (outside) as well as remotely/virtually via Zoom, Skype, Messenger, email, text, mail etc. I like to give options to the parents so it is as easy as possible for them. YESYes, I am friendly to all educational styles and methods, as long as I can see progress over the course of the year.YESYes, I used just about every method from one time to another. Yes. Face to face or virtual. Yes, I do hardcopy portfolios, Digital portfolios, and zoom meeting portfolios. Believe in it depends on the individual family and the child’s abilities for what kind of portfolio is best for that child and family. YESABSOLUTELYYes, I have evaluated just about everything: online learning, eclectic, traditional, unschooling, you name it.I am most comfortable reviewing physical portfolios as opposed to doing them digitally. However, I am not opposed to trying digital reviews as long as the parent(s) and I have an understanding of what is expected. I am open to reviewing various learning styles. YESAbsolutely! YESYESYESYESYESYESYes I will accept both in person portfolios and virtual. I am open to all learning styles. Yes, always. That's how people learn. Everyone is different. I look for appropriate progress.YES, I can also do in-person and virtual reviewsYes, except if there is no proof. Like I have been asked to do an unschoolers review before, but they had no proof of what they did that year, no videos, booklists, etc. I didn't know that person, so I didn't ethically feel I could do their review.I prefer to see children face to face so the family and child (children )will become comfortable with me and will look forward to the yearly reviews. I do see some of the children during groups.yesYes! I love getting new ideas for homeschooling my son!yes

Any additional information you would like to include? As a special education teacher, I am very comfortable reviewing for children with special learning needs. While I am certified to teach SPED, I am also certified for elementary and have homeschooled my oldest up through high school. Reviewing for special needs is my favorite 🤩 I personally use a Charlotte Mason and Eclectic curriculum. I am familiar with Charlotte Mason, Montessori, Classical, Unschooling, Online and traditional homeschooling. I am open to and comfortable reviewing any type of curriculum. I love to research and learn so I continue to expand my knowledge of homeschooling options. I have a degree in special education and experience in special and regular education. I taught in public school before I had children but have been home with my children for 20 years. I help answer questions year round and consult on curriculum choices when asked. My hope is that a portfolio review with me would not be stressful. I prefer digital reviews. I accept PayPal. Please contact me if you have any questions. I am pretty laid-back with my reviews. Basically, I like to see where each child was in reading and math levels when you started the school year and where they are currently, and a few examples of what you did for each of the 5 core subjects (reading, language arts, math, science, social studies) throughout the year. This can be shown in a variety of ways - through book/documentary/video lists, photos or videos of projects/experiments/field trips, scope and sequence of curriculums you have used, short written narratives, worksheets, writing samples, etc. I love to allow freedom for creativity in your portfolio and love seeing all of the students’ accomplishments and learning! Remember, you are simply putting together a portfolio to showcase your child and all of their growth and accomplishments during the year. I can review in person in Kanawha County and surrounding counties (within reason). I can review in person (in Kanawha County and the surrounding areas) and digitally.

Are you an active participant in the groups or do you just speak up to mention your reviews?YESActive memberI am not very active on social media in general, but I do speak up when relevant. In addition to portfolio reviews, I offer tutoring services and various classes like an ACT prep workshop. I post about those opportunities often.I don't post on Facebook very often period, but I will occasionally comment on a post.I am an active part in all except a new one, but some of families attend at the Wellness Center at a monthly swimming group I assist in. I just was asked to join the Nature Co-Op! The ones that are within 25-30 miles I go to their events. The Unschooling group is where I can get assistance from you all and latest updates, ideas etc I do answer a few questions if no else has on the Unschooling group. Mostly on teaching children with differences. I wish I lived closer to go to some of the Unschooling events! I am active and speak with other group members about portfolio submissions.Sometimes When I find interesting information that would be helpful. I do comment when there's something I feel I can offer.
