4
3/31/20136700Initial reading
5
3/31/201492002500-26.3After demo and new foundation and before major sealingBasement windows removed, heater flue going through one of them. 2500 added to reading.
6
3/31/20149000-200-28Piece of foam board on top of chimney hole, unsealedAttic and house are VERY well connected for only a 200 cfm drop from a hole that should be at least 5000
7
3/31/20149400400-27Attic door open, foam board over hole. This should have resulted in at least a 4000-5000 bump in blower door, if the attic was well ventilated. Since there are only a few roof vents, the air they were flowing before opening the door was as much as they could flow. If I opened an attic window this number would jump.
8
3/31/20148600-800-28.3Sealed above new walls and around new walls. Sealed plumbing stack upstairs. Sealed vent in front office floor. Sealed holes above top plate in office.800 reduction isn't bad for a few hours work.
9
4/2/201498001200-24.8Drilled holes on second floor for drill and fill.64 2 9/16” holes, 7 holes got much bigger – weak plaster
10
4/2/20149300-500-25Filled side wall of front left office with cellulose.4 bags used, front pile had 42 bags plus 2 in hopper.
11
4/2/20148700-600-29Front offices complete.
12
4/2/20148450-250-31Right rear office complete except over windows and first 3 holes – connected to ADA bath below.
13
4/2/20148000-450-31Left rear office and bathroom dense packed. Only stairway wall and a few touch ups left.HOW MANY BAGS LEFT?
14
4/3/20148450450-30Rear hallway insulated. First cuts in 'bay' window jumped blower door up.19 bags left, 25 used
15
4/3/2014150006550Did QC check with Caitlin using blower door and IR camera to find missed cavities. Found about 10. Filled them as well as the 3 cavities that were open to the ADA bath. Sealed bottom of holes in ADA bathroom where flashing was not complete and allowed water through. Spackled most of the holes on the second floor, the ones that were small. No reading, rough openings for windows in 'bay' area and spare office cut open. Some walls are balloon frame, front and rear appear to be platform.
16
5/1/2014Windows out, so no reading. Foam installed in attic edges, rim joists. Drilled and filled former garage wall, below second floor windows from outside, above front porch when removed. Used about 8 more bags (that's a lot.)Windows were not installed, so I couldn't see how much difference it made, a bit of a bummer, but that's life in the big city. Or small, rural village...
17
6/11/20142150-6300-50Windows in and foamed. No hatch on top attic or kitchen attic. Deadbolt hole open on front door. No QC on any foam yet - windows, basement, walls, or attic.Moved to A ring. Within spitting distance of 2000 target!
18
6/11/20142090-60-50Taped deadbolt hole in front door. 60 cfm50 of leakage in that hole.
19
6/11/20141950-140-50Foamed misses in first floor windowsUsed smoker to find leaks.
20
6/11/20141760-190-50Pulled foam board on top of attic hatch to top attic. Not sealed.
21
6/11/20141590-170-50Finished sealing attic. Sealed 2 south windows on second floor.Old windows on second floor leaked quite a bit at the sashes. Some of the new windows leaked on the sides of the sashes, Scott Robinson was going to work to shim them so they don't leak.
22
6/11/20141530-60-50Sealed 2 basement windows and a few leaks in basement.
23
6/13/20142400870-50Kitchen attic hatch on, top attic hatch off. Attic door open.
24
6/13/20141530-870-50Attic door closed. No foam board on top.
25
6/13/20141125-405-43B Ring – attic hatch on and initial seal
26
6/13/20141115-10-42Sealed bath fan, no change. Small additional sealing to top hatch.
27
6/13/20141090-25-44Sealed top attic hatch – found more leaks in it. Single part foam didn't seal around hatch well, needed a second hit.Beat 2000 target by 45%!
28
9/23/20141560470-29ERV was installed, several electric wires cut without sealing. Holes for ERV were not sealed, either. It turned out 4 windows upstairs were not actually sealed.
29
9/23/20141380-180-34Put cardboard over ERV ventsGigantic ERV with really large ducts seems oddly sized for a 2000 sf building.
30
9/23/20141530150-29Sealed gaps around ERV and 4 electric lines cut in the basement.
31
9/23/20141235-195-40Phew! Closed windows upstairs and locked them. B Ring.Final number to be verified by George Trappe, the HERS rater. Very nice result for an old house, an 81.5% reduction in air leakage from the beginning!
32
9/26/2014962-273-50HERS rating final number. ERV vents taped off.An 85.6% reduction!!
33
9/26/20141110148-50HERS rating with ERV untaped. Large difference of over 100 points from my reading, either my calibration is off or something changed, perhaps the foam I shot sealed better. This sort of variance can happen from one day to another. Glad we got a killer reading under 1000!
