1. Click the file tab on the menu bar above, and then download the file to Microsoft Excel. Save the file somewhere on your computer (you can title it whatever you would like).

2. To start the student loan budget below, insert your name below where it currently says "Future Funders.".

3. Go down the lists (Housing costs, Transportation, Tuition, etc) and enter what you believe you cash need for the month will be right now in columns C and H.

4. The total will show up in cell E26 and will be your Estimated Loan Amount Needed.

5. As you go through the month, track your progress by entering what your actual cash outflow turns out to be in columns D and I.

6. Notice the differerence between your Total Estimated Monthly Cash Outflows and Actual Monthly Cash Outflows in columns E and J. Think about which categories you may be able to make adjustments next month to pull back or add more.

7. Repeat the exercise by creating a new sheet. Simply right click on the "Month 1" tab and select "Move or Copy." Then, make sure the "(Move to End)" is highlighted and the box "Create a Copy" is checked. Lastly, press "Ok."
