Of course, it's always reductionist to distill a full experience down to a single number, so don't take anything too seriously. Ratings are approximately analogous across different mediums, but it's already weird enough comparing a single-player game to a multi-player game; it's weirder still comparing one to a webcomic or comedy special.

I'm well-versed in videogames and boardgames and thus feel my critique & commentary has more value/weight for those than it does for other mediums, where I am less experienced & analytical. (That is, I can defend my controversial Earthbound rating better than my low rating for your favorite movie.)

The column after the rating on most pages counts how much I've experienced something: e.g., how many times I've watched/read a show/book, or how far into something I got before dropping it. "3ep" would mean I saw 3 episodes; "S1-2" means I saw the first two seasons; a count by itself is how many times I've seen/read the whole thing.
The year column is how recently I've played/seen/read something, or how recently I've seriously re-evaluted the rating. (Sometimes a best guess from memory.)

Some stuff I saw/read too long before I started tracking ratings, so I leave them unrated as it's been too long and I simply don't remember them well enough (e.g. movies and books from my childhood). Ratings factor in both the original experience and more recent re-plays/re-watches, but will lean towards one or the other as I feel appropriate. (Basically, recognizing a first experience can be uniquely special, while adjusting for how I ultimately feel about something now.) I do not factor historical importance into my ratings.

You can select 'Change View' from the Data menu to filter ratings and sort by various categories (for Videogames & Visual Media).
